Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

Pages

So Double Fine; Order of the Stick; and Idle Thumbs kickstarters are all under way or completed. And it seems like there's a lot of great stuff out there looking for funding.

Instead of giving each one its own thread, how about we have a catch-all?

Head over to kickstarter and find something you think deserves our money!

For starters, here's one I already contributed to: Atomic Robo. It turns out they want to make a cartoon. It's very fancy and the prizes are exciting if you're a fan.

Ooh! Atomic Robo is one of the best comics out now. I can totally get behind an Atomic Robo cartoon. Thanks!

Wish this thread was started last week, then some GWJers could have gotten in on one I recently backed: recoil winders. A couple of cool recently closed ones are this contact lens case and this aquarium. I didn't really want fish again right now, but I'll probably check out their site later.

Here are some active ones that I think are cool:

Blinky ball, neat but very expensive.

Sonastand for iphone, seems pretty nice, I am going to pledge this one.

Steampunk blaster gun, cool looking for people that like steampunk stuff and not too expensive.

Ze Frank wants to do some more shows.

This science journalism startup looks good: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/readmatter/matter/.

This one seems pretty cool. I really dig the kickstarter idea. Very cool way of doing business and fulfilling demand in niche markets. Just waiting to kick-start a space sim

If an indie game is what you are wanting to fund, then please see Jesh's pitch video.

I just back this game, the lead designer of Halo Reach and Ghost Recon series wants to make a hardcore close quarters tactical shooter. I'm guessing its going to similar to Swat 3, the first Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear. Less "cinematic" then current shooters and more on "tactical" and "realism" like the games I've listed.

Sounds like his team and him have a decent track record. I would love to see a CQB tactical shooter out again.

Also don't forget about FTL, but I believe that has it's on thread.

This one is cool, and I may kick in a little for it, but how does a tactical shooter cost less to fund than a point and click adventure or a top-down RPG?

Edit: I'm dumb and just saw that $200,000 is enough to prove market viability and then their other investors will jump in. Great!

That's an interesting twist on Kickstarter. I think I like it. I like knowing that publishers/investors are listening to what's happening on Kickstarter.

It is an interesting business model and could lead to all sorts of projects down the road. But I think there is still a chance that the investors will pull the plug or back out after it's been funded, right?

Good point. I imagine Kickstarter requires they have some sort of commitment regardless of outside funding but I'm not sure.

Well, it didn't take long to jump the shark.

I wonder when that phrase will jump the shark.

Anyone post Wasteland 2 in here yet?

Never.

But that's an entirely different thread!

It's weird that Kickstarter even approved this. Whatever...

Maybe they'd like the nineteen million dollars?

Thee Banner Saga looks really kickass to say the least.

I've pledged a little money to it

A little update, The Banner Saga Kickstarter hit their goal within 2 days

maybe Kickstarter isn't a fad after all

So yeah.....this needs to happen.

We're still very much in the fad moment. Let's see where things are in 6 months.

I kicked into it and also Wasteland.

I saw this linked from Penny-arcade - Mech game made with lego and the models look pretty cool. Build your own models but I might kick in the $10 just to look at the book.

It's almost four years old and has steadily grown. I'm pretty sure that isn't a fad.

Cross posting this.

In the latest update for Wasteland 2, Brian Fargo mentions a new initiative he's creating: Kick It Forward. Basically, they're gonna take 5% of their Wasteland 2 fundsprofits and put it into other Kickstarter projects. Interesting idea.

Game industry veterans and there's no audio representation on their team. Their pitch video sounds awful, even if the game idea sounds interesting. Not saying they need a full-time person, but they should know better.

Yeah, I was going to post this. That sounds pretty slick.
