Gamer Podcasts

Nicole is back due to popular demand on the latest Weekend Confirmed! Only listened to about an hour so far but Garnett's "stalker" story was kind of funny.

Does anyone have a link for weekend confirmed's RSS feed? I cant find it on the site.

I know Tanglebones also recommended I think it was called DoggCatcher for Android. Not sure if that's still his preferred podcast client but he used to mention it a lot. I'm still stuck on a BlackBerry so don't take my word for it.

I can't believe SubSonic has multiple BlackBerry Playbook apps and not one for the phones. That one person wrote an app for the Playbook is amazing enough but two? That's unpossible!

Thanks a lot =)

I dont really like listening to podcasts on my phone and the last podcast app I used ate so much bandwidth and it cost me a lot of money. Data cost in SA is high.

Most of the apps I've used have the option to download only when on wifi, which is pretty important now that my unlimited data has gone the way of the dinosaur.

Yes. Sometimes living in the future is great, other times, not so much.

Beyond has a setting to turn on WiFi, check for new podcasts, download any new ones, then turn off WiFi to save battery life.

Go go gadget Weekend Confirmed Discussion Thread!

I thought this week's was quite good, the MMO discussion was surprisingly riveting. I haven't played an MMORPG in ten years, but as genres bleed together, I found much of their discussion applicable to League of Legends and other MOBAs.

After initially not liking the Besties Podcast, I decided to give it a second chance - and then a third, a fourth and, finally, an umpteenth chance. And now I've come to the conclusion that I just don't like it.

There, I said it. I know many people will agree, but I needed to get it said nonetheless. Because I really, really wanted to like that show. But I don't.

I never liked the artificial "I know the best game of the week" set-up. The fact that the presenters would barely remember what the previous week's best game was exposed a contagious lack of interest in and commitment to their own show's unique thematic selling point. The conversation seemed like isolated rambling, and the fact that each presenter had usually played only one or two of the games on the table would undermine any merit for a constructive debate.

It also strikes me as odd that presenters with such similar voices were picked to host the same audio show. It took me weeks before I could tell who was talking, with the exception of Justin.

Weird, considering the resources and staff that Polygon should be able to wield. Maybe they're putting all their efforts on video. I wouldn't know, I don't really do video.

I haven't done this in a while. Our end of year episode. Yes, we are still doing this, when we can.

We posted our video game prediction podcast last week, for any that might be interested: http://principleduncertainty.libsyn....

Haven't listened to the last few weeks of Weekend Confirmed. Hearing about the drunken holiday shows has me not very excited.

Did check out today's though, and it was really good. Jeff Cannata hosted and it featured Xav, Indie Jeff and Dan Trachtenberg. Although it'll obviously never happen, that would be my preferred default crew. It was a good balance of structured discussion and total off-topic wandering. Very entertaining.

Say it ain't so! That's a cast a would gladly listen to, and may not even have something to nitpick at on each episode.

Looks like I have something good to listen to on Monday at least.

On that note, I wish people put their podcasts up in a more timely manner like GWJ. I can always count on having the new episode Wednesday morning if I leave my computer on over night. Anyone else? Nope. If an episode goes up on Wednesday, it's too late for me to nab before I gotta drive to work.

I don't know if anyone listens to The Nerdiest, but Chris has a two part interview with Mr. Steam himself, Gabe Newell.

But then you have it for Thursday!

But Thursday is all back-logged and harder to spread out and then Monday and Tuesday are empty-ish!

Or maybe I just need to get better at scheduling when I listen to stuff.

I tend to use Monday and Tuesday as catch up days from the week before. My priorities are the Bombcast and Idle Thumbs on the gaming side, and the New York Times Book Review for non gaming. Then I fill in with Weekend Confirmed, GWJ and others.

Tried out No More Whoppers this week. It's...okay. I'm a fan of Ray Barnholt's work at 1up and of his Scroll magazine, but these podcasts, which are just he and Alex Fraioli talking, run a bit a long at times. I've only heard two of them, so perhaps it's something that has to grow on you.

Other than that, been catching up on GWJ podcasts and the excellent Duck of Death.

I agree with all of this. I persisted with it up to the casts about best game of the year, but now I'm out.

It was like playing Two Worlds 2 -- I realised early on that it was average but finished it out of sheer bloody-mindedness. And the ending was cheap and unsatisfying.

Does anyone else listen to IGN's Podcast Beyond? I've been listening for a few months because I like Greg Miller's personality. His cohort Colin Moriarty is...out of hand, I think is the best way I can put it. He goes on rants against something or another every week, while I often chuckle and shrug them off, I find myself wondering what other people think of them. This week's rant against Kickstarter projects seemed particularly lacking in the logic department.

I cherry pick episodes from Beyond and Game Scoop. Greg Miller cracks me up sometimes, but a lot of what they talk about elicits rolling of the eyes from me. It's very hit or miss.

I love Beyond, and used to love Game Scoop. Colin works for me because he knows Greg so well and they have a great rapport. Plus, I love oddballs. Sometimes he has a discussion prepared, and is able to articulate the issue and his stance quite well. I don't find that happens often, unfortunately.

I think the fact that the end of the year winner for The Besties was a game that didn't even make their original list reveals a massive problem with the show's formula.

You should consider resubscribing because the kind of interviews he's been getting recently are stellar. Yes, listening to every episode is tiring (I never listen to the live episodes), but when he keeps getting guests like Mel Brooks, Tom Hanks or Ron Perlman, it's good keeping it in your feed just in case.

Big +1 to this. I usually let a few podcasts of The Nerdist fill up and then lock the ones that interest me in Downcast so they don't get erased. Chris is a great interviewer because he approaches it more like a conversation than ticking off a list of questions. Sometimes the conversation goes off the rails and he doesn't ask questions I would have liked him to. But overall these podcasts are great.

I'll post this here since John Shafer seems hesitant to keep plugging his show Cross posting from the Idle Thumbs thread.

Maybe I'll get back to the show- I do agree that Chris does some really good interviews. Also, I often found myself interested in people who I never care about before listening to the show.

Anything looking for a good Walking Dead spoiler section should check out the latest episode of Pixel by Pixel.

Came here to mention that episode actually. I enjoyed it a lot. I really liked contrasting our different experiences.
