Gamer Podcasts

ActionButton.net is Tim Rogers I believe. Freelance writer.

Tom Chick is QuarterToThree.com (and was part of 3 Moves Ahead for a while). He was doing freelance work up until last year. Did a number of reviews for GameShark which is why you're probably hearing his name on their podcast. Also known for his Tom vs. Bruce and Shoot Club features.

Also has an account here *waves*

So does Troy.

Tim Rogers! That's the guy.

Explains why I was confused reading Tom Chick stuff and thinking "Wow, he got surprisingly concise".

How is the content on DGR these days? I didn't share their music tastes so I stopped listening when they did their name change. I always liked all the other stuff they talked about though.

I'll link you my blog post on it when I get it up. Everything you say is right, but is wrong at the same time.

Paradox!

I'd like to give a shout out to my friend Leanne's podcast 8Bits+Pieces. It's new and a bit rough around the edges, but I think they just need time to find their groove. I listen to it regularly enough.

They've been very infrequent the past three months (real life stuff intervening). 90% of the show is non-video game stuff now, as well. I'd recommend listening to all of their hilarious "After Hours" podcasts, though.

Their After Hours stuff has always been their best stuff in my opinion. It often gets very NSFW though, even for them. The show seems to be in sort of a mini hiatus right now. They keep saying "real life" is getting in the way and they keep saying "We've sorted out now and we'll be back next week", then they don't come back the next week. The show's a hobby for them so I mean, whatever works for them of course but hopefully they can come back soon.

I has to be something big. I believe this is the first time they've ever missed a show since they started around 5 years ago.

Cool, I will check out the After hours stuff.

Yeah, they've missed several now. The first show they got to do after one of the breaks, Hilden implied it was a pretty big deal but not something he wanted to talk about. Hopefully it's resolving itself, for him as much as the show.

Fun to hear the Bombcast crew have Keighley on and pick apart the Nintendo stuff.

Does anyone listen to The Indoor Kids? The topic is always gaming, but in general the focus is on end-user experience and gaming culture, not what's coming out.

I love Indoor Kids. I second your comments and add "frequently hilarious."

While the sound quality is pretty poor, I've been listening to Roguelike Radio quite a bit. Because, well, roguelikes.

I'm not an avid roguelike gamer, but they're a good listen, thanks.

How was this week's Weekedn Confirmed? Hoping their E3 coverage might make it worth checking out again.

Hey, I know you guys listen to a ton of podcasts and listening to new ones can be VERY hit or miss, I get that. But our 2nd episode of Drunk & Nerdy Podcast is up and I'd love for you all to listen and give some positive feedback. We don't have any snazzy intros or outros yet and our sound editing on this one was less than awesome but I think we have a lot of fun, talk about a variety of stuff (not just video games) and we have a lot of fun doing the podcast. PLUS I'm in it Benticore AKA Chocolate Thunder so if you ever wanted to know what I sounded like, there is that!

Thanks!

I listened to both and give it my stamp of approval. I'll continue listening if you would be so kind as to remind me here in the thread.

Kinda wanted to punch the white guy in the second episode for being such a negative nancy, but otherwise it was good stuff. You didn't touch on subjects I'm really into at the moment, but it was fun anyway.

They tried to focus on only talking about games and keeping it relatively positive but in doing so it lacked some of the drama of previous E3 podcasts. So they spent very little time speculating about the WiiU's potential success, what Smart Glass could mean for games, or how long until Sony cans the Vita, for example.

Listenable but if you closely followed the games coverage out of E3 through other means, you probably won't hear anything new. Also, N'Gai Crawl is a guest and I know some don't particularly like him. Although, he said so little that you often wouldn't have known he was there.

QFT, one of their most inoffensive episodes, and also least engaging. Always love hearing David Ellis talk, even when he's dead wrong.

Thanks for the feedback- sounds like a pass. I doubt I'll find it an engaging reason to resubscribe.

Dude, thanks so much for the listen. We're working on making him less angry but he works with idiot customers all the time who say some of the most ridiculously offensive ignorant stuff so he's mad a lot. Or he pretends to be. We love him anyways!

We're still working on all the stuff surrounding the podcast (website - I hate podbean, equipment, editing, etc.) so you listening and giving the feedback is very helpful.

Thanks again!

Um, Time Belt.

I hope no one minds if I post updates to our podcast in this thread, and in the EisT Catch All. If we get a lot of people following that thread (or if you ask me to) I will not update in one or the other.

In an odd turn of events, some of our listeners decided to provide their opinions of our show on a forum. We respond to this response in the only only way we know how: argumentatively. Also, we give a shout-out to Penny Arcade’s Extra Credits and their “Kinect Disconnect” video, and then we discuss several topics to include: Bethesda, Capcom, 360 vs PS3, Skyrim, Platinum Games, Sega, Anarchy Reigns, Opinions and Speculation, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Netherrealm, E3, interface evolution, Unreal Engine 4, Resident Evil 6, Tomb Raider, Beyond Good and Evil, Hard Candy, Ryan Gosling, Harry Potter, TV seasons, episodic gaming, Hitman Absolution, Bayonetta, Smithsonian-worthy Games, game ratings, crossover games, and War of the Monsters. And even though we mention this in the show, please be sure to like us on Facebook and tell all your friends about us so that they too may enjoy the wonderfully entertaining ramblings of three odd-ball gamers.

Question of the week: Who is your favorite video game character and why?

I would ask Certis or a mod about posting both threads- what they want or will allow matters more than what anyone else in here says. I wouldn't be surprised if he had an issue with that, so would recommend dropping a line lest ye offend the gods.

A couple of new-ish, pretty great interview format podacsts:
Buried in the Credits
Dialogue Tree

I thought there was a film recommendation thread, but I couldn't find it. So, as second best, I'm putting it here.

I've done a very short audio review of two films, Elite Squad and its sequel Elite Squad: The Enemy WIthin. We've always discussed non-game stuff (books, films, art exhibitions) but these films happened to make me think differently about Max Payne 3. No spoilers.

Just so you know, Episode 3 of the Drunk and Nerdy Podcast is live and available for you gentle caress.

Give it a listen...IF YOU DARE!

...or if not if you don't want to! Don't want to be pushy!

Listened already

Kind of yawny at the comics part, but that's just because I don't like comics.

Word of warning: Anyone still listening to The Geekbox should delete this week's episode if they haven't already. If you've listened to it, I share your great pain. One of the worst podcast episodes I've ever been subjected to. All they do is bicker, moan, fight, and insult each other for 50+ minutes. It's basically a Ryan (comics) rant about how big corporations are evil, and everyone else yelling that he's not with the times.

Save your soul. RUN. I need to take a mental shower. f*ck.

I had to quit the Geekbox long ago due to them constantly spoiling my favourite shows only days after the episodes had aired. Almost tempted to have a listen to this episode and see what got you so riled up ;).

I enjoyed Alan's intelligent discussion of the Microsoft Surface on the latest CC. That's a guy who knows his sh*t. Wish he was on every week :).

Fans of GFW Radio may like to check out This Year's release of the 2008 GFW Best Of podcast. Kind of bittersweet since this is the final year of the podcast. Also, a sad moment when they announce the shutdown of the magazine and discuss some of the highs and lows.

They've been good on spoilers since I can't remember when. It's the same decent quality, but they have Adam Fitch on now, who's mostly boring, and doesn't have a voice for radio.
