Well, here's one I know nobody else listens to here
not true, it's in my list as well - the only problem is there was a time there where they all just seemed to be utterly fed up with the whole thing and weren't really putting their hearts into it and the gaps between episodes has gradually grown longer and longer. I've not listened to the last couple though, so maybe they are back on course again.

So it's actually better? I got to where I didn't care, so deleted the feed. It was just boring and didn't seem to have a voice.
I did the same during the 'In this Thread' days. Games, Damnit! isn't the most focused podcast in the world but it's funny sometimes and I enjoy the chat.
It's GREAT when Tina Sanchez is on, since she has one of the most adorable and relaxing voices to listen to EVER in the history of everything :D. Other than that though I still feel like they are treading water after gradually losing all of their best podcasters, but it's slowly improving.
DGRadio isn't about games anymore, well, not exclusively. Awesome podcast, but its worth is on the in-jokes and the chemistry between those three crazy guys
Another vote for Jumping the Shark. Awesome podcast.
I loved Weekend Confirmed when Brian Lahey was on. I really enjoyed hearing his perspective as a competitive gamer, it was really fresh. Most podcasters are total care bears, talking about immersion and narrative
Since he left I keep hearing it, but as background noise as I do stuff that requires some concentration.
Also, another thumbs up to Three Moves Ahead. Really awesome if you're into strategy/wargaming.

Hey, they do occasionally read out my tweets :).

Since Xav de Matos is moving to LA, I'm hoping he's on more. I think he would fill in at least some of Leahy's balancing. I thought he was a good part of Joystiq's Xbox 360 Fancast when he was still over there.
The dedicated gaming shows I listen to are:
Giant Bombcast - They can be a little obnoxious but overall I find them really funny and you will not find a more knowledgeable group of people anywhere in the gaming press. These guys know their sh*t and are able to talk about it in funny ways.
GWJCC - I've listened to this since the beginning and still do, largely because I'm active on the forums here.
Rebel FM - Listened to this from the beginning too and the main reason I still do is because many of the opinions on that show differ from the mainstream. Sometimes. Arthur is as many others have described him. My biggest gripe with him is how he says that reviews are only opinions and should be taken as such but often takes time to lambaste other reviewers who like games he didn't. I also find the group as a whole tends to gush over what's hot and new (see Mass Effect, Dead Space 2), praising it like its faultless. Then after the next new hotness comes out, they suddenly find all the major issues their previous flawless gem had. When their opinions do vary, they're often significant and provide a good counter perspective. I listen to the relationship advice section too but mostly just because it's funny.
Weekend Confirmed - Garnett Lee is most certainly well...Garnett Lee but I like him because he's crazy passionate about games and whether or not you agree with him, that comes through and I respect that. I've always liked Jeff Cannata and think he contributes great things to the discussion, as did Brian Lahey (when he wasn't gushing about his iPhone for half the show). The discussions are often deep and very interesting but if you don't like Garnett's personality, that hasn't changed.
Irrational Behaviour/Interviews - Seems to have dried up lately which is a shame because Irrational Behaviour is a great behind the scenes podcast with neat discussions about how they do what they do. Irrational Interviews is just Ken Levine/Shawn Elliott/Chris Remo sitting down with an industry veteran and talking about their lives and about making games in general. I really love both of these but they need more episodes.
The Full Moon Show - Has also slowed down a lot but mostly because Insomniac can't really talk about any of their current projects yet. Another great behind the scenes show.
A Life Well Wasted - Pretty sure this show is dead now (largely because producing each episode nearly killed Robert Ashley) but you should go back and listen to the previous episodes. Many times. So awesome.
Nintendownload X-press - For serious Giant Bomb/Jeff Gerstmann fans only. I only listen because it's funny and I probably won't much longer.
Idle Thumbs - Basically a dead show but listen to the archive. Hilarity throughout.
I also give honourable mentions to DGRadio and The GameSpy Debriefings but neither of those shows are really about games anymore.
Now tell me which ones are worth unsubscribing from. I've got too many.
RebelFM gets a full pass from me because they once dedicated an entire show to raising money for a pediatric cancer ward. It was very touching and effective (ie it led to me donating cash to the center). So yes, I don't agree with them all of the time, but they do have hearts. Also, I think it's refreshing to listen to a podcast with a POV different from my own.
Now tell me which ones are worth unsubscribing from. I've got too many.
I don't think anyone can tell you that, but my recommendation is this: If you feel obligated to listen to a podcast, then it's probably time to unsubscribe. The ones I really look forward to on my list of weekly-scheduled podcasts above are GWJCC, Gamespy Debriefings, Geekbox, the MMO Report, and the Quarter to Three podcasts.
I like Giant Bombcast, RebelFM, Mobcast, Feedback and Three Moves Ahead a lot, but if their topic doesn't interest me (or if I start to get bored for a while) it doesn't bother me to stop listening or just skip that particular podcast for that week.
DrunkenGamersRadio just stopped being interesting to me. It's a well-made show and their MassEffect2 alien sex contest remains one of the funniest things I've heard last year, but the show just doesn't do it for me any more. I already have a pile of podcasts that take precendence. Definitely recommend you try it out though - some swear by it.
Thanks also to those who recommended JumptheShark. I was on the fence on that one and I feel enabled to give it a trial run now.
Gaming podcasts I'm currently subscribed to:
Giant Bombcast
Rebel FM
Jumping the Shark
Player One Podcast
Nintendownload X-Press (or whatever)
Idle Thumbs
Weekend Confirmed
8-4 Play
Of those, I'd call Giant Bombcast my favorite, and the one with the most consistent quality of discussion. I'm pretty new to Jumping the Shark, but I've liked it alot so far. The others have their moments often enough to keep my subscribing (although rarely finishing; I'm a 'whatcha been playin' sort of guy), but they are not anything I can't live without.
My 5 favorites in order:
1. Idle Thumbs: The holy grail of gaming podcasts, as far as I'm concerned. R.I.P. I'd recommend listening to the entire backlog over anything more topical.
2. Giant Bombcast: no need for explanation.
3. GWJCC: no need for explanation.
4. Invisible Walls: Gametrailers' weekly video podcast. Shane Satterfield is one of the only games journalists around that focuses heavily on strong gameplay and value proposition, 2 things that I find very important when I'm researching a game. I watched a lot of G4TV's Feedback before I found this, but I found myself rolling my eyes at the opinions and terrible jokes of the G4TV staff far too often to keep watching. Invisible Walls is a great replacement.
5. The Game Informer Show: This one has grown on me quickly. I still think Game Informer is far too lenient on most games, but the discussions on this show are always informative and entertaining.
I'll also mention State of the Game would slot in at about #4 for me, but it's a Starcraft 2 only podcast, so I wouldn't recommend it unless you decide to get into that scene.
I loved Weekend Confirmed when Brian Lahey was on. I really enjoyed hearing his perspective as a competitive gamer, it was really fresh. Most podcasters are total care bears, talking about immersion and narrative

+1. Weekend Confirmed quickly shot near the top of my list when Leahy was on. I found the dynamic between the 3 hosts to be fantastic. Leahy is a gameplay over story kind of guy, which sadly seems to be increasingly rare in gaming media these days. I still listen sometimes, but now when Jeff and Garnett go on their hyperbolic praising of a mediocre game, there is no one to bring them back to Earth.
It's funny, due to release times, generally I listen to Giant Bomb followed immediately by GWJCC. So the ending song of GB and the starting music of GWJCC are basically the same song in my head. To the point where if the GB music ends and the GWJCC music doesn't start, I kind of start mentally humming it in my head anyway.

I have the GB break music as my ringtone. Now when I listen to the show and they play it (rarer lately) my Pavlovian response is to reach for my phone.
I might as well reinforce what other people said.
GB
GWJ
3 moves ahead
Jumping the shark
And as always, even if they only do 1 more a year... Idle Thumbs. Just go through the archive.
Not enough mentions of the Player One Podcast. I think it may actually be my favorite podcast. Their modern gaming insight isn't always all that deep as they have about as much free time to play as your average adult gamer, but I appreciate that. It's just a group of friends who were once in games journalism and now mostly do other stuff. Their banter is just very natural and usually pretty funny. The format they've come up with really nails what I want out of a podcast: well-paced, good audio, non-scripted and they just talk instead of trying to put on "radio" voices.
I enjoy Weekend Confirmed, although their "fame" can inflate their egos a bit at times. So long as they don't get into TWiT territory I'll be happy I actually enjoy the show more now that Lahey is gone; I enjoyed his insights but thought he wasn't a particularly good podcast personality.
Will have to check out some of the others mentioned here as I'm always looking for more good podcasts.

They do! I recognize your name
It's probably quite different from all the other podcasts listed, and it can be a bit hit and miss, but sometimes they have some really great discussions you won't hear anywhere else.
I have some comedy, science, and skeptic podcasts to suggest. In truth, I have dialed back on game, and science podcasts as there is so much repeat news, and other info. I really miss GDC Radio/Gamasutra podcast-GDC now sells recordings of keynotes and lectures for those interested.
GWJ is good, Rebel FM is tangentially about gaming more often. You are lucky to get 5 minutes of game talk from Gamespy. Giant Bomb is fun, informative. I really like their trade show chats, where they have a different cast each day, even every hour.

I would 100% agree with that. Also they have started judging games without playing them. But their middle segments are quite in-depth and it is never boring.
My top 4
1: Giant Bombcast: What others have said. Knowledgeable, funny great chemistry.
2: Rebel FM I joined about the time they did the cancer ward thing. I then went back and listened to all the past shows and have caught every one. When they are on they knock it out of the park. I don't mind the crude humor at all (actually I think they have toned that down a bit), but not as consistent as other's. I think there has been a dip in quality since they joined IGN but they occassionally do a great show.
3: GWJ: I don't have to tell you guys this but this is a great podcast. I am a relative newbie to GWJ but I like their perspective (Not in tune with the review cycle, a more PC slant and normally stick to games I am interested in).
4: Joystiq The main reason this is so high is the games discussion. Also their attempts at humor while not exactly funny is entertaining.
I like this thread as even though I listen to way too much podcasts, you have made some suggestions that I will check out.
PC Gamer podcast is my favorite. GWJ and Bombcast are regulars, although I usually won't finish both in a given week. I usually get a bit of Weekend confirmed on the weekends, but I mostly listen to podcasts while driving.
I get sh*t for this every time I say so here, but I still don't get the appeal of Idle Thumbs. I don't think it's bad, but every time I listen to an old one like I'm told I should I just end up zoning out halfway through. The only podcast I like as much as everyone else seems to like Idle Thumbs is the Giant Bombcast.
I prefer the more conversational, less topical podcasts. Despite my pure loathing of IGN as a site, I rather like the dynamic on some of their longer running shows (Game Scoop).
8-4Play is a pretty solid new one, with some interesting perspectives. Mark Macdonald and John Ricciardi of ex EGM fame are the main hosts, with other employees of 8-4 usually in guest spots. 8-4 is a localization house based in Japan, so it's coming from a unique point of view most of the time.
I don't think this has been mentioned yet. "This Year" is a show made by a podcast fan that's sort of a highlight reel for a year of a given podcast. Understandably it's taking some time to get the episodes made (they're 5+ hours typically) but if you're heavy on dead air to fill it certainly serves.
There are some others I listen to regularly that I wouldn't recommend unless you're as much of a podcast junkie as I am. They've mostly been listed and commented on already.
These rarely post, but when A Life Well Wasted .
A Life Well Wasted is such a good podcast, that's not really a typical podcast. It's more like a documentary. I'm really surprised someone like NPR hasn't offered him a job doing this for them. So entertaining.
My favorite podcasts outside of GWJ in no particular order
Giant Bombcast
Quarter to Three (Games ones because I don't really watch many movies, too bad he mixes them together in the stream...)
Cheap Ass Gamer (only when wombat doesn't whine and force in his bad humor for attention)
Three Moves Ahead (Rob Zacny is an excellent host, as was Troy before him).
Jumping the Shark - Just started listening a few months ago but really good so far.
Edit: How could I forget Idle Thumbs (when it's on).
Ones I've tried but grew tired of:
Rebel FM (forget why, but it's a decent show)
Drunken Gamer Radio (They deny they do it, but I hate the Shock Jock type show they put on, they are pretty entertaining guys when not doing that)
Player One Podcast- Entertaining guys but they often have very little to say about actual games - plus they have like a 10 minute outro (I know I know - skip it).
Joystick (did nothing for me)
When is Lara Krigger (sorry if I misspelled her name) going to have a show of her own? I enjoy it emensely when she's on GWJ. Not enough intelligent female personalities in these podcasts.
Edit: ooo ooo I know what I want: Lara and Rabbit doing a board game podcast! (anyone know of any good board game podcasts?)

They used to have those great discussions all the time, then they decided to just take listener questions and ruined it.
Three Moves Ahead is awesome.
Super in depth, grognardy strategy and game design talk. Soren Johnson and others make excellent guests and now with the magnanimous Rob Zacny at the helm, how could you hold out. And Rabbit's on sometimes too.
(There Zacny, now stop complaining on twitter.)
Warning: I wrote too much
Podcasts I listen to regularly:
Bombcast - really good chemistry, funny (I'm not going to count the Nintendownload X-Press as a separate entity but it is entertaining)
GWJ Conference Call - unfortunately, I've really started falling behind on listening and I don't really know why; they somehow manage to have decent chemistry despite the inconsistent cast and skype (skype usually kills podcasts for me)
Periodic listens:
Out of the Game - I will usually listen as long as Jeff and Robert are both on; Shawn can be really annoying
Three Moves Ahead - I don't really play strategy games so I only listen when they talk about something I'm interested in or when Chris Remo was on
"Extinct" podcasts that are worth revisiting:
Idle Thumbs/The Idle Thumbs Podcast - podcast perfection
CGW/GFW Radio - Jeff, Shawn, Sean and Ryan era was the best; I didn't really like Darren so I kind of ignore the early episodes; anything with Robert Ashley is gold
A Life Well Wasted - speaking of Robert Ashley; based on some things he's said on Twitter, I'm considering this one dead; as others have said, not really a podcast but great nonetheless
Retronauts - by it's very nature, it's kind of timeless; early episodes were much better
Podcasts that I stopped listening to for the following reason(s):
Rebel FM - this was really good at first but then Phil Kollar and Nick Suttner left and it became Anthony and Arthur's fart party; I'm have a pretty childish sense of humor but there is such a thing as too much
Geekbox - Andrew Fitch; Burn Notice
Player One Podcast - this was one of my favorites at one point but it got down to only two of the guys and I just can't listen to a two-man show; also skype
IGN podcasts - there's some good chemistry here but seemingly constant rotating casts and the fact that the Bombcast does everything they try to do but better made me stop listening
1up Yours - when I started listening to it, it was good (even with Luke Smith) but then Garnett started getting too far up his own ass and David Ellis started showing up around the time of the 1up-ocalyse and I can't stand him
Things I never really got:
Drunken Gamers Radio - just don't like it
Joystiq - just seemed boring the couple times I tried to listen
tl;dr - some podcasts are good, others aren't
Geekbox - Andrew Fitch; Burn Notice
He moved.
Player One Podcast - this was one of my favorites at one point but it got down to only two of the guys and I just can't listen to a two-man show; also skype
I've been listening for 2 years now, it's been 4 man since then. Audio quality is pretty good too.

I just resubscribed. This really was on of my favorite podcasts. Unfortunately, I have a lot of non-gaming podcasts that I listen to now and less time to listen to them so I'm not sure it will stick.
My issue with Skype isn't the sound quality. It usually doesn't allow the conversation to flow naturally and it can hurt the chemistry of the cast.

Huh, I never noticed. Maybe the 4 people thing fixed that problem. Less awkward pauses, of if there are any, they're edited out well.
Chalk up another vote for Giant Bombcast.
If you don't mind a console specific podcast, I enjoy Major Nelson's show. It's pretty much an Xbox only show, but pretty well done. The "Stepto" guy can be pretty arrogant, but I can look past him.
iaintgotnopants wrote:Geekbox - Andrew Fitch; Burn Notice
He moved.
His doppelganger/twin brother has replaced him though. Their voices are identical, they share some mannerisms, and seem to have similar taste in games. Just a heads up.
