Borderlands 2 Catch-All

The decoy to me is what Phasewalk was to Lilith in Borderlands 1: a get out of jail free card. It's saved my hide so many times already I've lost count.

It's also great if you happen to run out of ammo since Zero's melee is very strong. Tip: Try to "headshot" when you melee with Zero and you will get critical hits as if you sniped the enemy in the head. It's very easy to one-shot kill with Zero's melee.

So before I was playing and I made this crazy shot and thought "wow, that was pretty bad ass".

Look at the bottom of the screen.

"+1 Badass Tokens."

I love it when games get things like that right.

Side note; Does anyone know how in *some* games (like this one) falling feels right and yet it others it doesn't? I get a little flip in my stomach every time here.

I think the best use of gunzerking that I've found is using it when I'm not in combat so I can generate ammo. Other than that it's basically an "oh sh*t I'm going to die, I need some health" ability. Kind of disappointed with that.

I have found some really fun ways to use my Gunzerkering in clever ways: use two Tediore pistols that act as grenades when you reload and spam both mouse buttons like crazy - things die in a hurry. Use a shotgun in my off hand and an assault rifle in my main hand then charge into a group of people; just keep the normal fire held down and use alt-fire whenever something gets somewhat close and you usually clear a mighty big path. If you run in with the shotgun in your main hand, you can even save the Gunzerker power until you are at low life, then unleash hell - I have done this with two shotguns and it gets messy (for them). I am really enjoying playing as Salvador.

Have you all given Claptrap a high-five yet? If not, you haven't really played the game.

Is that a prompt you get when rolling up to him?

Just wanted to share this with you guys.

I normally don't like handguns with stocks but this is the only one I've found. I really like how intricate it is. When I fire it, the barrels and cylinder rotate independently, which doesn't really make a whole lot of sense but it looks cool.

Also, "Stiff Injector."

BTW, does anyone else find the exploding Tediore guns unreasonably hilarious?

Yeah exploring is fun but time consuming. Might yield a weapon or two, but the time spent can probably complete another mission and get an even better reward.

And with coop it's really hard to find multiple people into exploring mode.

I've managed to find lots of undocumented goodies that lead to achievements and subsequently, more badass tokens.

Spoiler:

In Claptraps hideout, there's a Borderlands logo etched into the back wall of one of the bathrooms. "using" it triggers a partial achievement of locating other Borderlands logos. I managed to find another one all the way on the opposite part of the zone where the midget riding a bullymong is located.

Also, in the area with the midget riding the bullymong, there are 4 little telescopes scattered around. Using them gives you a nice view worthy of a screenshot as well as triggers an achievement (find 4/4 telescopes).

Spoiler:

There's also four echo communicators in Sanctuary that do a fun job of describing the history of the town and Roland and are worth some Badass points.

It's worth noting that all Badass Achievements can be had over and over again on multiple characters. It makes it easy to get the badass rank up... not that the bonuses are all that significant, but it is still fun to achieve.

How are people spending their Badass Tokens? Since they have diminishing returns, and I'm such a sucker for a bargain :), I spent tokens on everything first to get the 1% increase and then started sending points into Health stuff, Shield stuff, and Gun stuff. That's not very specific I guess...

Yeah, I have used it for the "get of of jail free" many times, I'm just not sure how much I want to invest in that skill tree. Have you been investing in it?

From what I've seen, those diminishing returns bottom out at .5%

On another note, "Mad Mike" (I believe) was a pretty badly designed mini-boss fight. I was level 13, with 400-ish on both shields and health (having done all but two minor side missions available to me, so it's not like I was skipping levelling chances), and one hit from him took me to about 30 health. Plus, you have to run up a series of ramps to get to him, so he's free to shoot down on you. Luckily, you can run past him, but still, it really dampened my enthusiasm last night.

Similarly. I think I have 1% in everything except elemental stuff. And I've started up to 1.7 on reload speed.

Badass stuff is supposed to carry across characters, so it will end up being a decent amount of bonus at some point I think.

I learned the hard way that Zer0's ability is not Lilith's phasewalk and it does not make him invulnerable. I normally don't like melee classes (seems to defeat the purpose since you can't equip new melee weapons) and started playing him as a co-op character since he does extra damage to targets that aren't attacking him, but I find myself meleeing more than I'd expected and I've started to invest in it. As useful as sniping is, I use it more as an opener than a mainstay. Killing enemies at long range is useful, but you're going to need to get over there eventually to get the loot. Since my co-op buddy likes shotguns, he's usually right there to grab the good stuff as it drops.

As for badass tokens, I've been focusing on reducing shield recharge delay, increasing weapon accuracy, and increasing elemental damage chance. Basically, reducing uncertainty. I've also put some points into reload speed since some of my favorite weapons take forever to reload. My badass rank is nearly 1000 so I've accumulated a few points in nearly every category by now.

That's good to know re: the diminishing returns, for some reason I thought I read somewhere that they went down to .25%

I thought the Dr. Mercy boss fight was similarly absurd. I was two levels above the content and was getting almost one shot by his transfusion grenade. Ironically, because of his shield, the boss fight is pretty much a cake walk in Multiplayer. It also may have just been that its a tough fight to solo w/ Salvador since he's the only character that really has no way to control a fight or deal with boss charge up abilities.

For me, the game really shines in MP. If there's anything I really wish they had done differently: the loot system is frustrating, Diablo 3 did this so well by giving every player in MP their own loot rewards. Of course they also failed to scale the content properly so that the loot rewards and farm efficiencies of MP were better than that of Single Player.

Actually you can.

I found a sniper rifle that does 50% extra melee damage, and it changed the melee from the knife swing to a gun bash.

Not sure how many of these optional melee weapon/animation changes there are, but there's at least one.

Since we're sharing...
This fell out of a Rakk.

It shoots fireballs. No big deal.

That is literally the ONLY modifier. Not sure I'd throw out an "actually" for that.

That is awesome. I have a similarly-styled pistol that shoots ricocheting fire bullets, and another that shoots darts that explode with fire damage after a second, doing a small amount of splash damage. That dart gun is one of my main weapons. It actually fires two darts at a time, or four if I'm zoomed in. Only problem is it costs 2 bullets per dart, so it goes through ammo really quickly.

Anyone else get an orange item off Captain Flynt when they killed him? I haven't got a screenshot of it, but it's pretty beastly, fires two lightning rounds which hover after dealing damage and eventually explode. It's been my mainstay for quite a while!

Bah, I haven't even seen an orange drop yet (level 14). However, like Lobster, I do have a gun that shoots ricocheting fire bullets and you can bounce shots off walls to hit enemies in the back(!). Useful for guys with shields.

Love this game.

Just popping in here as I haven't really followed this thread, but have been playing BL2. Are we using the same Steam group for Borderlands, or do we have a new one going for BL2?

I didn't see any orange until a ways into my second playthrough last night. It wasn't even a drop; it was a quest reward.

Don't expect them to drop for a very long time.

I forgot to mention that an awesome thing about playthrough 2 is that the enemies change a lot. They didn't just go with the same enemies but leveled up.

I just started fighting robots and I really wish I had something like that. I've been hanging around The Dust, robbing caravans and blowing my savings on the slot machine.

The only orange I got was a non-random quest reward, seeing as it's named after the quest line.

That we are. And speaking of that, it seems like my network settings aren't being saved. Guys, I appreciate how eager everyone is to play with me but I generally prefer to play these games solo. Makes loot distribution so much easier. I don't mind doing co-op from time to time but I'd appreciate it if you'd toss me a message before popping in.

LobsterMobster wrote:

Which quest? It sounds like I'm at about the same point as you but didn't get an orange item for any of the quests I've done.

Also, the slot machines are pretty awesome. Have any of you gotten three bandit heads?

Weapon stat question: Anyone know if the stats when you look at a gun are the base stats or the stats with your bonuses applied?

That shotgun above is amazing. I have one with like an 80 accuracy and a very high rate of fire that is more of an assault rifle that fires shotgun shells. Also had an assault rifle that fired grenades. They would explode on contact with an enemy or explode after about 3 seconds if they didn't. Used like 5 bullets per shot though so I could never use it much.

Right now my go to weapons are a SMG that shoots electrical plasma rounds (fires big pinkish purple balls) and a sniper with incineration bullets.

ebarstad wrote:

Laughed my ass off.

Edit: I love that they've given the random NPC's more lines. The Russian female voice is my favorite so far.

Spoiler:

Ah! Put gun away!! Is joke. I like gun.

I love some of the names for Zer0's costumes:

Leaf on the Wind =(
The Yellow Dart

One of the new things that I love are the shields with effects on them. The health reduction penalty was too high (nearly half my current piddly total) but it made me immune to fire/burning. The shield I am running with now shocks when depleted (like in BL1) but also shocks melee attackers.

I swear I have a pistol now that is essentially a sniper rifle with less zoom but faster firing and a bigger ammo clip. Head shot criticals one shot most enemies without shields. Enemies with shields are left with 30% health after one shot. (this is at level 8ish)

edit: I got a shotgun that was around 29x15 damage at level 7-8. Its accuracy was 16.7. It had a 2 ammo clip and the reload time was pretty long.

The best thing about that is that even after it's happened to you and friends several times, you still manage to trip over each other trying to get away, and one of you blows up. Also, it's funny when you are doing other stuff in town, and you hear an explosion followed by "Sh*t" over voip.

I opened my special weapon box from pre-ordering last night, too. It had two purple pistols in it, which made me since I want to run dual assault rifles with my Zerker.

Mine had 2 mediocre blue relics... I thought that thing was supposed to have guaranteed purples.

Really? Wonder if they're going to crack down on that.

Yeah well, best laid plans of mice and men...

I'm nearing Flyn (for the 3rd time) and still rocking the Gearbox sniper rifle. I really wish I could buy ammo capacity upgrades, 'cause I run out of sniper ammo quickly, and then I have to rely on my *shudder* SMG.

I doubt it. It only affects the PC version, you can't get free extra golden keys on PS3/360, so it's not the same as the New Haven chest from BL1 which affected all versions of the game.
