When I first saw this pic, I thought that they were condom packs. How awesome would that be?

"Hey baby, I'd sure love to hot-drop my mech into your insertion vector!"

Greetings Commander Liquidmantis,

Suh'weet!

Really looking forward to some seriously hot mech-on-mech action.

Done and done. Let's see how long it is before I win a game by walking an Atlas off a building and on to some poor schmuck. (Yes, I've used terrain to DFA with a freaking Atlas. I've done it more than once. You'd think people would be smart enough not to stand under the 100 tons of death...)

I wonder how similar this will be to Mechcommander. On the face it sounds like they are taking the computerized pen and paper versions of battletech and giving it a visual engine.

YES! This is why I'm so excited. It's what I've always wanted!

I just love mech stuff, and a new turn based game tactical game would be sweet. Although it seems they are going the micro purchase route. Hopefully they do that tastefully.

Mechcommander 3 would be awesome, but from the video footage, it doesn't look like it is. It looks turn based.

They're handling this very well from what I've read. You get unlocks by playing and they're being very careful to avoid having a pay-to-win system. I believe the biggest mechanic is the points system for unit allocation.

Can you explain a bit further?

Good info in this report. Basically what I'm talking about is the basis for any miniatures style game. You're allowed to field an army with a set number value which is derived from the weighted strength of units. So while you might be able to buy awesome gear, it'll also have a [hopefully balanced] high point value that it adds to the equipped unit, thereby restricting how many units you can field..

So games are capped by battlevalue (basically). And in order to get new stuff you buy "booster packs" full of equipment. hat about right?

I wonder exactly how the unlock systems works then.

I'm surprised anyone let you get within 9 hexes.

Anyone going the non-pay route? (yes I know, no pay to win right)
I suppose, in Beta, there will be open access to the upgrades?
How does that usually work in FTP microtransaction betas?

That's the thing. Both times they moved to the hex on the edge of the building/cliff. (I was out of SRM at the time, so it almost sorta makes sense.) And it was their last mech both times, so I can see trying to rush and take out the Atlas and go down in a blaze of glory.

Really though, as much as I liked the Mechcommander games... having a pretty, automated version of the tabletop game would be absolutely badass. So I do hope that's the way they're headed.

Also, I am poor. So I'll likely go completely f2p. (Though, if I can scrape it up, I'll likely throw 10$ at them to support the awesomeness.)

Just got this email:

Friends & Family/Closed Beta Announcement

We are pleased to announce that MechWarrior® Tactics™ will be entering ‘Friends and Family’ on May 22nd! To those committed fans who have been patiently waiting for news, we will be sending a CLOSED BETA KEY shortly after the Friends & Family stage is completed. You must be registered on the existing temporary forums to receive a BETA KEY. With the release of the upcoming CLOSED BETA 1 we will be updating the MechWarrior® Tactics™ website.

Any updates on when the next wave of beta starts? I've been watching my email with beta-ed breath.

They made this facebook post today. It looks like it's still going to be awhile.

"Salutations!

As the release of MechWarrior Tactics approaches, we have been actively developing around the clock. We have been overwhelmed with positive anticipation from the thriving community of MechWarrior pilots, and this makes us feel incredibly supported moving forward.

We understand that this can be an apprehensive time for our fans as they patiently await a release date; we thought that we could give you a quick update on our progress as development continues at full pace. You can checkout the latest 3D Turnaround of the Hunchback here.

While the development has been productive, we realize that the community has been looking forward to accessing the beta. Beta users are a very important step in the development process, and we greatly appreciate the valuable feedback that the community is willing to provide.

With all projects, we feel that it is important to take as many steps as necessary toward producing quality games. We pride ourselves in having high standards, and as such we are doing our best to prepare MechWarrior Tactics for testing as quickly as possible. We’re actually excited to see how you like the game, and we know that your suggestions and bug reports will be crucial. However, at this point we are not at a place where such feedback would be useful, as we want to give as much focus on the development of the game as possible before addressing specific bugs and user concerns. It is hard for us to give a timeframe for when we will be ready to begin user testing on a larger scale.

We are very excited for this community in particular to try MechWarrior Tactics. As soon as we are ready for beta signups, you will be the first to know."

So, is this playable on the iPhone? I just read an article on toucharcade which mentioned the pad but no mention of the phone. Also, it is awesome that there is going to be a campaign.

The game is built in Unity, which makes it relatively easier for cross platform development. I think the answer is yes... But iPhone screen might be a little rough.

Ooohhh! I was starting to get worried about the lack of info.

I'm still figuring out what we actually pay for. If all you can buy is Mass Effect inspired card packs, then you can expect no money from me. Hopefully they will allow trading items, that would be cool.

It is good to hear that there is PvE; it gives me a little hope, they might have a Comp Stomp mode of some kind. I hate playing strategy games against other humans.

In a toucharcade article a few months ago they mentioned that there would be a campaign.

Take a look at this article. I am not sure how I feel about it, especially since there won't be trading or selling between players at launch. I will still give it a shot though because everyone who has written about this game has been enthusiastic. Also I saw a post they started sending beta keys last week.
