Idle F***in' Thumbs Podcast

I just found an Idle Thumbs reference in Kingdom of Loathing. The circle is now complete.

This old-style tin billboard reads: Puffin' Wizard Cigars. They're not for babies.

I like how on bios page under Nick it only says "Congrats, Nick!".

Dishonored has gotten a good amount of love on the 'cast. It's too bad that Deus Ex happened to come out during the hiatus—I imagine it would have gotten a lot more discussion had they been 'casting while they were playing it.

Indeed, DEHR was even their GOTY.

Indeed.

Even in 2008 there was a fair bit of indie love by the Thumbs. Braid, World of Goo, and Minotaur China Shop were given GOTY or Honorable Mention.

Never apologize to utili-kilt owners.

They now have a Netrunner podcast and they didn't say so on the main 'cast?

Also, curse them for making me giggle at work when Jake (or Sean?) mentions on the latest cast that he walked in and the rest of them were all going "oh yeah chicka chicka" and he just rolls with it like nothing was out of the ordinary.

Nothing would be out of the ordinary.

I think they mentioned it briefly near the end of the cast.

I definitely feel like they're in full swing now. This is the kind of weird nonsense that I had come to expect from the original cast, but it seemed like it had been absent for a while. Now? It's just another day at the office again

Where is my Idle Thumbs! It's usually out by now

Aside: today I noticed that Tone Control is up to its third episode. I had subscribed to its RSS feed when the first episode came out, but I never saw any new episodes from that feed. I guess the feed URL must have changed at some point.

Jake said it's going up right about now

Its up;)

WOAH super rare Nick plus Steve configuration!

So good. Think my laughter at the nightmare basketball tech demo description just woke up my wife though

Why do I love Idle Thumbs? Because it can go from "SWEAT SWEATY SWEAT BALLS IN YOUR FACE TUBES OF MUSCLES" to "It's a single-track conference attended mainly by East Coast developers and NYU undergrads" in an instant.

And their voices sound the same this 'cast, and they're both on the same side of the stereo separation. Confusion reigned.

Yeah, that was totally weird. I couldn't tell them apart, so I now assume they are the same person.

With some Jeff Goldblum discussion on the side. Classic Thumbs episode.

Classic Ironman.

Wasn't so sure going into this episode due to the presence of Klepek. 15 minutes in there's an earnest discussion about graphing calculator games. SOLD!

They don't disappoint us:)

I didn't catch that. May have to relisten.

Scoops has been on before, right?

Yes, but not for a full episode - just one segment. Forget what it was about.

Tokyo Jungle! Our Neighbour Scoops! Rings a bell?

Pay attention next time, I'm expecting better of you, gentlemen.

Second-Hand Scoops' input was exactly what I needed to hear to buy a graphing calculator to stop considering buying an Xbone. Not that it's a decision that's been keeping me up at night, but I'd been going back and forth about it, and his points firmly put the notion to bed. So at least in that instance I found his presence valuable. And then he was just generally a great guest.

Isn't Klepek someone who often gets flak? I first started reading him when he joined MTV Multiplayer, and I've always liked his stuff.

Don't ask. Someone's answer will inevitably involve the word, "hipster" and I'll vomit all over the place.

There are those in the Giant Bomb community that don't like him very much. I can see why as he seems very opinionated and decisive about things without, perhaps, having all the facts and that (naturally) rubs some people the wrong way.

I think he adds more than he subtracts but different strokes for different folks.

His written stuff is really good. It's when he opens his goddamn mouth that people have a problem with him. He's super opinionated, often without actually having first-hand experience/knowledge (his unwillingness to listen to the reason why Jeff thinks Yoshi's Island is a bad game is a good example of this). And, he won't shut up.

I like that goddamned mouth

I'm opinionated and armed with very few facts, and Yoshi's Island is the best Mario platformer, so that's probably why I've never minded Klepek.

Forgot about that. Thanks for correcting me;)

I can't believe there's still an entire community devoted to developing and playing games on calculators. As a hardcore retro enthusiast, this knowledge makes me happy.

I've also been in the camp that has had issues with some of Patrick's unresearched opinions (in particular his almost gleeful doom and gloom predications about the AAA and console markets, despite being proven wrong multiple times now and in the past). But I've really started to enjoy listening to him, especially since Bombin' the AM came about.
