X3: Terran Conflict

Does anyone here have a list of mods that are essentials?

I heard the ones on the bonus pack are very useful. The game play fine without modding . I know there are a few things that make the game easier:
- Repair laser purchasable mod or some other repair scheme.
- ATF shipyard ( you can't buy em normally and they are hard to capture)
- Universe best buy /best sell - it was mentioned here earlier.
- A way to jump into Terran sectors (unjumpable in vanilla )

Here is the list of mods. There is also a mod manager .

I can't really think about anything else that's annoying. The game is very playable in vanilla . Just don't try fighting for too long in an M4 ;). I agree that trading without scripts is rough but that's what' Trade software mk3 was made for.

Once you start cheating you can't stop - that's why I try to avoid it as much as possible. I've read you can use SETA while repairing in a suit .Info about this method can be found in this thread but you have to scroll down a little. I haven't tried it yet.

I agree and thankfully basically no mods work with X-Tended. i dont really see this as too bad a cheat, because the suit laser is in the vanilla game. its silly they modded it out. ya, using SETA in the suit really isnt a mod or cheat, but i guess could be considered an exploit? u just drop it from your freight and then pick it up while u r flying around in your suit.

X-Tended is designed to be harder and slower-paced than vanilla, and that's one of the ways they achieve that.

In other words X-Tended isn't newbie friendly . I know a thing or two about the game , what's a good deal and how to look things up.After my hard drive died (I'm not rushing to recover it) I'm basically rushing through things but I'm not making millions yet but I'm doing well enough. My father in law is still straggling with the basic controls I might just give him my joystick.

Just a few update from my X3TC game(s). I finished the Terran plot with defender and got a new M6 . I started building stations using hired TLs. It seems a waste to buy a TL for 20~ million if I can use the hired ones for peanuts .

Yesterday I killed a Xenon Q barely . There was also a J there but I all I manged to kill was its fighters the J is pretty tough . I should probobally improve my dogfighting ability because I stink. Maybe I should get a joystick (either the one I gave away or the new one). What I need to do now is get a sat network . I think I'll get another TM to do that (big cargo bay + decent speed + thick shields ).

I recently sidetracked to do a different start. I got my trade rank high enough to do the Tormented Teladi plot (make 2.25mil in 12 hours). I started with the little Harrier Hauler - the slowest flying coffin (M5 scout) and It's probably the worst one too (S cargo ). I'm now at 100 cargo ,225m/s speed. I only got 26k credits after 4 hours in (8 hours left) so I might fail . I really don't want to cheese it and get the abandoned ships.

I recently captured a Fujin Raider which might have weaker max shields and laser generator but it's M cargo 477m/s max speed (much better utility ship). It's not worth much so I'll probably switch and sell my old flying coffin and get some upgrades. I mainly tried to capture ships using station defense and escort mission ( those are a pain but I'm getting desperate) . Hopefully I can get more captured ships and get some starting capital. With my new Ship I can do Taxi missions and I could probably get a mineral scanner. I've seen a lot of good 2nd hand ship being offered but I couldn't afford them .

I don't really mind starting over. I'm after poisoned Paranid start but I'd rather have a challenge opening it then using cheesy tactics.

Well... when my harddrive crashed I lost all my save games including over 100 hours of X3...

Not happy...

Once you work through the 5 stages of grief, eventually you'll be able to look at this as an opportunity to play even more X3.

Once your trade rank increases and those missions become more profitable, it becomes worthwhile to have several of your owned TLs parked at different race stations ready to buy any station you need and jump them to your location immediately. You can accept multiple station build contracts at a time, and dramatically add to the number of available station missions in those systems, so it's a worthwhile investment. Though mainly an investment for speed and convenience.

Guess it depends on how many stations you're going to build. I bought a Split one (Elephant?) before I set up my ridiculously huge gun-supplying complex over in pirate space. Was nice to have, and command him to run around, buy things remotely, while I continued whatever I was doing.

Sounds like you're having fun with the other stuff. I don't play with a joystick and still never had much problem dogfighting. I miss this game, really should get back to it...

Yeah, doing Tormented Teladi without selling derelicts is crazy-hard. (I just took the cheesy way out.) The Poisoned Paranid mission is really easy in comparison, because you have so much more time to work with.

Doh! The same thing happened to me about 2 month ago but I'm a mid-gamer so I didn't have too much regrets for my saves. You might want to edit your registry and enter the correct mask for your unlock progression ( starts) instead of unlocking it all over again. It's not cheating if you unlocked it before.

Well it's pretty bad but I managed to get 400k with 5.5 hours to go so I probably have a decent chance. I got a fujin raider @477m/s , 2 ire, cargo life support 68~ cargo and a mineral scanner so I can do plenty of missions now.

Edit:
7:15(play time) Someone trusted me to return an Asp (M4 worth 600k~) for an easy 14k I had other plans for it - sent it to space dock and sold it for 300k. While it was getting close I found a deal for a Nova Vanguard @470k (2 mil value) so If I sell it I'll probably be at about 2 mil which is pretty close.

Edit: 8:03 Success ! .After getting a cheap falcon sentinel , SETA repairing it and selling both ships I hit 2.8 million!

Ok i'm an oldish X player. Playing since X2 and had X3:R & X3:TC from each respective release. Started playing again the other month and was trying to find some like minded people so here i am!

Just read all 84 pages and some of the stories, boy i wish i had found you lot when i first bought X3:TC

Currently trying to talk a work mate into delving in to X3:TC but his shields are tough to drop!

There are a few people who play X3TC here. I'm usually only go into threads with games who interest me and people here play plenty of games Including a lot of Indy and unpopular genres even rogue likes.

The official egosoft forums are extremely active. This thread haven't been moving much and I didn't notice many of my steam friends playing though I saw one. The official forum has a TON of info. I'm currently playing poisoned paranid as I mensioned . I'm in Day 2 and I think I got over 10 milion. I'll finish it soon enough but I lately found it hard to find good missions. I had one "return ship from m148 " so I reloaded after I was told to I better get out of the sector myself or I'll come out of it in pieces.

I found the stat compendium very useful but I still use online resources.

You can use the tactic that works best - wait for a sale and gift his steam account . There is still no grantee he'll play it. The game has a huge learning curve. X universe isn't for everyone I remember I started up X2 and then decided it wasn't for me . I got X3 because I couldn't find anything that compares to Freelancer. Freelancer is a great game and it's a good start but it's hard to find a retail copy and it's not distributed digitally.

X rebirth should come out soon (q4 2011) and I've heard it would have less of a learning curve (none knows if that's true). There isn't a lot of information about the game people are skeptical about how good it would be after hearing it was more of a character based game and you can't directly fly capital ships.

As long as they keep the freedom to do whatever you want in the open universe t should be fun.

Use mass drivers.

Well like i said been playing TC for like my 100th time so i tend not to pay much attention to how far or long into a particular play through i am.

My general play style means i tend to be a lone wolf (no support/wings) until i'm in an M7 then i start building my empire. Though i must admit i never remember the HUB requirements being so steep! Alas i will keep at it and eventually take over the universe!! (I have the improved races mod so i can cap sectors etc)

EDIT:I also like to adjust my starts to make it so i have about 1k credits and only flying a standard disco with 1 IRE lol

I just scored a 230 m/s Hyperion Vanguard (screenshot). It did take some endless reloading but I got it eventually( I did other stuff like watching videos). Despite the fact I'm down 25mil I can now sell the Diamos I'm supposed to return for a 1mil credit reward . It's already in the shipyard and worth 16.8~ mil ;).

I have now finished the HUB quest with no help/mods! damn that hurt! find myself currently flying a Vidar (from terran plot) with a few ships docked up in stations and my TL flying around placing my various stations I've bought. The Money making phase of my plan has begun!

tkdb17 wrote:

Congratulations! That's one hell of an achievement.

Nice job I heard it's not a picnic .

I'm usually too busy messing around to do those grand projects but I might do it in my new game. The Hyperion Vanguard I got from the Poisoned Paranid plot is OP. Mission pay out is pretty good so I can start building my trading business though I'm pretty bad at organizing stuff.

Niseg wrote:

No picinic! that ain't the half of it! The past 2 weeks have been solid resource building and nothing else, my factories are only now starting to actually sell their products lol

I'm pretty sure the previous times I played I never had to collect that much so I can only assume I've lost a few mods between system upgrades over the past few years. I must be a sucker for punishment though as i've just jumped to Elysium of Light in my TL to start the Goner plot >.<

Organising stuff I don't seem to bad at either that this CAG software is far better than I remember it being lol

Stupid Noob here.... Been playing for about 15 hours and am getting really good at flying and trading, but here's the big (dumb) question.... How do I get out of the terran sectors?? I have been flying around from the Oort Cloud to Mars and never find an enemy or pirate, or anything to dogfight. I have found a few "unkown sectors' beyond the Oort Cloud, but these are safe and also full of terrans. How do I reach the Argon, Boron, and enemy sectors? Feel stupid but also stuck. I am jumping through orbital accelerator gates in the terran sectors, but can't find my way into the larger universe. Feel free to abuse me in your replies!!

The route out of Terran space goes through the Asteroid Belt -- head south from there, and you'll be on your way to the larger, stranger universe.

Probably depends which start you did.

Sounds like Terran, since you're there. So you should follow the plot missions, since it gets you cool free ships.

And then I'm pretty sure those missions lead you out into other space.

Another question... I see the term "ahepts" all over this and other forums in reference to weapons... what are these?

Vranda wrote:

Alpha High Energy Plasma Throwers. Earlier games in the series had fewer weapons, but they came in lighter (alpha) and heavier (beta and sometimes gamma) versions; that distinction doesn't exist any more in TC.

Vranda wrote:

High energy plasma thrower - a weapon you can mount on medium fighters (M4) or bigger but if you have a Sabre it can't use it (Terran ships can only use Terran weapons) .You can check the stats site but this site has a lot of spoilers (ships, items, initial stations, asteroids, universe map).

Another dumb question... y'all are so patient! Does one buy turrets, or do they come as part of a ship's standard load out (depending on class). I would like a bit of defense on the Advanced Barracuda I found. Where can I buy if tat s an option?

There's a set number of turrets already on each ship. Your only decision is what weapons to put on them. They have restrictions, however, so you can't just put any gun on any turret. Also, if you have a ship with a rear turret and you want it to attack enemies automatically, or shoot down missiles or whatever, you have to set that in the ship command menu.

For those commands, note that there is is spillover between the commands, it's just the priority that is higher.

For example, "Attack Missiles" and "Protect Ship" will each attack missiles coming towards you, and when there aren't any missiles will attack enemies, so I'm not really clear on what exactly differentiates the two.

What I wouldn't use is "Attack Enemies", "Attack my target", "Attack Missiles", "Protect Ship" are all fine, but with "Attack Enemies" set you have the inevitability of flying by Pirates or something that are leaving you alone and that you don't want to attack. Then all the sudden your turret lights them up and they turn on you.

This can happen with "Attack my target" as well, but it's a lot less likely to happen accidentally. Also note that your turrets will not attack friendly or neutral targets, you don't have to worry about selecting a freighter to scan or a station to dock at and causing an international incident.

Want to set up first silicon mine.... I hired the Teladi Albatross and told him to dock at the ship yard..... He agrees and moves toward, but doesn't dock. Not sure how to get him the purchased mine to set up for me. Haven't hired a TL class ship before... Any help appreciated
