Are you sure that's not the spinoff book about Auri?

Met Pat Rothfuss again (twice) at SDCC this year. Total sweetheart of a man - my wife and I talked with him for a while and he dispensed much sage advice to her about writing:

We also picked up a ring designed after Denna's ring to replace my wife's long-lost wedding ring:

What sage advice?!?!?!?!?! Fill me in!!

On writing dialog:
Check out the novel 'Fletch' - it's 80% dialog and brilliant

On finishing your first novel:
Don't stop. Keep working on your novel. Research isn't working on it. Rewriting the first four chapters over and over again isn't working on it.

There might have been a bit more.

Reading Fletch novels is never a bad idea. Love those books.

I read about a half dozen of them back in high school, and loved them then - I was also a big fan of the movies, though they were a totally different animal.

I just passed this info on to my friend's husband. Decided to copy and paste what you wrote as it was shorthand for my point.

Did anyone pick up the Rogues anthology edited by George Martin and Gardner Dozois? Patrick Rothfuss has a story in there called The Lightning Tree, about a day in Bast's life. It's a quick read, but it's still intricately plotted in a way I wouldn't have expected in a short story. The story that's told and how certain events play out aren't spelled out 100%, so you have to infer certain things. You learn a little bit more about Fae magic, but otherwise don't expect any shocking revelations about Rothfuss' world.

Bumped thread not about new book. SHAME!!!

Yay Auri gets her own book!

But it isn't book 3, and isn't even 200 pages long. Is sadcited an emotion you can be?

Shame on you, Tangle.

11 Questions with Patrick Rothfuss

*11 Questions is an AV Club series that "asks interesting people 11 interesting questions—and then asks them to suggest one for our next interviewee."

Also, the interview links to this year's Worldbuilders charity campaign.

Seriously. Wise Man's Fear was published over 4 years ago. Pat's starting to become the new GRRM with the amount of not-writing projects he has on his plate.

I fully expect the next book to not be the end either, so he'd be like GRRM in that regard too by extending his original vision.

I'm okay with that tbh.

I'm totally ok with more set in Kvothe's world, and to my understanding that's absolutely the case. I just want to actually finish the trilogy instead of re-reading the first two endlessly.

This week is Nerdcon which maybe an opportunity to announce a release date for book 3 "Doors of Stone".
I just want more.
Yes book three would be great.
But more Auri, more side stories, more everything.
With a side of fries, thanks!

To alleviate the pain of the above post NOT being an announcement of book 3, Pat announced a multimedia deal with Lionsgate. TV, movies, video games. All your Kingkiller trans-media dreams come true.

Probably won't see anything from it for 2 to 3 years, I'm guessing, and that assumes it doesn't fall apart before then.

Someone make fangblackbone fix the thread title!

It looks good to me.

That's because he fixed it in the interim of Q-Stone's post and yours.

He so sneaky

And to think I suck at Thief and Dishonored...

Well, hmm, I was really good at stealth in Planetside ;P

On Tor's latest newsletter they highlighted that Name of the Wind is now 10 years old. It just makes me sad that the third book is not out and we have no release date.

I'd still rather wait for a great book than get a sub-par book now.

Well you're in luck, since after posting I did a bit of searching and found that Rothfuss recently said he's ripped out major parts of book 3 and is rewriting them but it is not going well. Sounds like we are still pretty far from a release unfortunately.

I agree I want the third book to done right and well, it just sucks it is taking so long. Especially after the early on claims that the story was 'done' and just needed to be polished up for publication.
