RUSH

I thought this needed it's own thread.
Happy RUSH day
2112

2112 at Vapor Trails

I saw that tour. Hearing 2112 in its entirety was amazing.

I was at the concert that was filmed at, so I'm somewhere in that video. Probably. Definitely an amazing show.

What are you talking about? It's 01/02/2012.

I was at the Philadelphia show for that tour. I was drinking too much, and had to go pee somewhere in the middle. Luckily I got back for the audience participation "HEY!"

Saw em live back in 90 or 91, with opening act by Primus.

Used to be a huge Rush fan to the point where I flew to Nashville for opening night of the R30 tour with a bunch of people I knew online from hanging out on alt.music.rush for years. More or less lost my fandom in many ways some years back (their last album was a giant pile of execrable excrement), but still listen on occasion. I'm more of an "80s Rush" guy anyways.

I saw them every tour from Permanent Waves to Presto plus the Test for Echo and Vapor Trails tours. I missed them on the Snakes tour, which I regret a great deal. They always put on a great show. They are one of my favorite bands of all time.

Happy Rush day, indeed!

Saw them twice in the 80's. Watched Rush: Time Machine on Palladia a few nights ago. Listening to 2112 on Spotify right now.

I saw them back during the Test for Echo tour and got to go for free to a local show from the Snakes & Arrows tour. Dudes can still bring it live!

Are those washing machines on stage?

Depends. It's equally likely they are rotisserie chicken cookers.

My all time favorite band, and probably the only rock band for which I have managed to preserve some amount starry-eyed fanboyism.

I've spent way too much time this morning surfing Rush bootlegs on YouTube. I would have killed for that stuff when I first discovered Rush in the late 80s.

Good lord. I saw Rush on the Moving Pictures tour in 1981. 30 years ago. It was their 8th album.

Wow. Those guys are OLD.

But damn, can they still rock.

Moving pictures tour would have been amazing. That's when I discovered Rush, was in 81. I was 14.

It was wonderful to hear them play Moving Pictures cover to cover. Wasn't it at Bluesfest 2 years ago, Parallax? Seems like ages ago. Our Bluesfest isn't much of a blues fest any more.
I was 20 rows from stage. Amazing show.
Got there 6 hours before the show to secure a spot and watched them assemble Neil's massive drum set.
Gump (Neil's kit manager) has it down to a science.

I was actually teary eyed when i was blasting 2112 during this part. Very moving lyrics when Geddy puts them to voice.

III. Discovery

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound.
It's got wires that vibrate and give music.
What can this thing be that I found?

See how it sings like a sad heart,
And joyously screams out its pain.
Sounds that build high like a mountain,
Or notes that fall gently like rain.

I can't wait to share this new wonder,
The people will all see its light.
Let them all make their own music,
The Priests praise my name on this night.

Edit: i was 1.

Edit: not really.

I first saw them in 85 on the Power Windows tour. I guess they aren't the only old guys around here.

Speaking of Moving Pictures, I saw them last year on the Time Machine tour. It was sweet to hear them do Camera Eye/Witch Hunt/Vital Signs live. They can still put on a great show.

Edit: In case somebody has not seen this yet, here is the show intro from the tour: 'Rash: the Real History of Rush'

That's it, Time Machine, they did the whole Moving Pictures album!!!
/faint

I loved that skit. Rash.
Geddy was wearing a Rash shirt during part of the show.

One of my faves:

One of my faves

Love both those tracks.

Aparently they don't like doing La Villa live. They find it too difficult!
LOL

It is my fave of all the instrumentals.

TBH, I was kind of irritated when I listened to Rush in Rio and they turned it into this kind of weird free-form jazz thing in the middle of it. I get that they've played it 1,000,000 times over the years but, come on, that's close to blasphemy to me!

In 1981 I was -1. Who's old now?

Gonna fire up some 2112 on the way home tonight.

Pfft Rush hasn't been cool since John Rutsey left the band.
/pedantic jerk

Grace Under Pressure was my first Rush cassette, bought with my allowance at Wal Mart. When we got home I ran to my room and put on the headphones, and the next 40 minutes was pure bliss. Since then I made it my mission to buy them all, which I did til the mid-'90's. What a great bunch of guys.

I was in college when 2112 came out.

Old? Pah. Whippersnappers.
