2012 Predictions/2011 point and laugh

Activision will run Call of Duty into the ground, and then find another franchise to crap on. Bobby Kotick will kill several puppies, just because he can. Seems to me each iteration is getting less and less well-reviewed as time goes by. Also, puppies flee from Bobby Kotick, or he'll be killing them left and right.

Cod is still going strong, wasn't MW3 the best selling yet? The only thing I see killing it is a hardware generation shift if they don't have the technical people to make it happen on new hardware. There will always be a market for shooting games, and so far many have tried but none succeeded in beating CoD. The only thing that can kill it is itself.

I haven't made a prediction in the past threads so you can point and laugh at my lack of predictions instead of all of them being completely wrong. I do have one this year though I'm pretty sure it has to have happened already but I'm out of the loop. Anyway.

An online fighting game using the League of Legends content/revenue model will begin to take off. If there aren't people out there working on something like that they should be because it makes too much sense in my mind. I've played less than 30 minutes of League of Legends and haven't played a fighting game in years but the hypothetical financial model makes too much sense to me.

Duke Nukem will actually be pretty decent. SCIENTOLOGY WRONG

I laughed way too hard at this.

There's this one too.

Bonus WiiU-related prediction: Bioshock Infinite will not be released for the WiiU. 2K Games is too conservative about bringing anything but sports titles to brand new consoles.

The Wii U will launch this Christmas and be successful but not the cultural sensation that the Wii was. This will have lazy games journalist run with the narrative that it's a failure much like the narrative that the 3DS is a failure ignoring the history of console transitions and sales patterns.

The 3DS will take off like gang busters in 2012 due to the improved software library and we'll see a redesigned machine released this fall that is thinner, has a better battery and two joysticks on it.

The PSP Vita will have even a tougher launch than the 3DS had. We'll get more stories from lazy games journalists that iOS is killing handheld gaming and they'll continue to ignore the fact that Pokemon black has garnered more revenue than every iOS game combined.

Preach it!

+1, Ulairi, but we won't see that redesigned 3DS until 2013 (and the second analog stick won't be on it).

I flopped on 2011 saying that Valve will ship Half-Life Episode 3.

So this year, I will make an entirely new and bold prediction: Valve will ship Half-Life 3 in 2012.

Yes, you read that correctly. Half-Life [not Episode] 3! Also, Valve will create an announcement ad that will show the word "Episode" in front of a "3" that will slowly dissolve or crumble away leaving just the "3."

Most people will find the ad funny and charming and will see it as self-deprecating humor on Valve's part. A small but vociferous group will berate Valve for "failing" the whole episode experiment and will also declare that the game will probably suck.

[I just realized there were two topics. Sorry for the cross-post.]

You just had to go ahead and bet opposite me didn't you!
