GWJ BCS League, Season I (360): Conference Championship Week (League Deadline: 12/31/11 @ 7:00am ET)

I recruited the hell out of some players. BAM!

Hahahaha...

=============== #2 Michigan Wolverines (7-0) ===============
- (****) ROLB Keith Bryant has committed to Michigan
- (****) LE Mike Baldwin has committed to Michigan

=============== #18 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (5-2) ===============
- (****) ROLB Jeremy Rogers has committed to Notre Dame
- (****) LT Stevie Fagan has committed to Notre Dame

Well, I may have to move Fagan to RT so he can match up against LE Baldwin over the coming years!

Firesloth, I think he is. I can boot him tomorrow when I go home for a couple of hours. Thanks for posting the schedule!

Both Shonuff and Omega were kicked (Omega hasn't played in quite some time). Both received re-invites if they want to pop back in.

Okay...I'll get my game in tonight or tomorrow.

I played a crazy game in my offline dynasty last night. #1 Notre Dame (8-0) v. #6 Wisconsin (6-1). There was virtually no defense, even though they had a BEAST of a MLB. In fact, he decided the game in an unexpected way. On the first drive, I took the ball down to their 10 yard line. I called a power run to the right side, that MLB clobbered the ball carrier, forcing a fumble that was returned for a TD going the other way.

From that point on it was a shootout, with each team taking the opposite approach. His HB set a Wisconsin single game rushing record with >350 yards rushing (gulp). I think this included 4 TD runs of >50 yards each. Ugh.

On the other hand, my QB set the single game passing record for ND with >530 yards passing and 7 TDs. (I had only 53 yards rushing while Wisconsin had only 125 yards passing.)

In the end it came down to the final 2 minutes. I kicked a field goal to tie at 45 apiece, but left about 1:30 on the clock. That was enough for his QB to finally get some throws in. Eventually they got within FG range, forced me to waste my time outs, and kicked a 30 yard FG to seal the win with 0:02 on the clock. Bastards.

I was impressed that the CPU actually got the time management right, running down the clock once they were close, causing me to use my TOs. Bastards.

Woah woah woah. Human game?!? Against ND? I'll play that!

When should we play? I'm most consistently able to play around 11 pm EST or so (or later). Would tonight work? I can probably be back home by then. Tomorrow might also work.

Let's try for tomorrow night.

Shonuff, you should have a re-invite to come back into the league.

Hey firesloth,

Not going to be able to make it tonight so you can play against the CPU. Try not to injure too many of my players.

Would like to join if there is an opening.

I think we'd be happy to have you back, and there are plenty of openings.

Suggest a team.

I will send you an invite!

I guess things are looking up for the league again

Would like to try Oregon. Logged on but didn't see an invite.

Sorry BB, sending it to you now! Unfortunately, we wanted to avoid 6-star schools, so you wouldn't be allowed to take Oregon. Also, when you sign up, select the create coach option, do not select existing coach.

Welcome back!

Just make sure you send it to his new userID. It is Wi11Nick.

By the way, I played a Gdawg-less Northwestern the other night, winning 30-17.

The game should have been a bit more one-sided, but I threw an INT on the opening drive as I was going in from the 2 yard line. Northwestern has a very good safety, and I didn't appreciate how good until I threw to my TE just as he came out of his break. I thought for sure it would be a TD...the opposing safety thought otherwise (see the uploaded video...).

However, it seems the rest of the secondary is a lot more suspect, as I torched them for several long throws to outside receivers. The other safety wasn't nearly as good, and he didn't do a good job in zone coverage on the boundary.

It also would have been closer had I not been pretty careless on a throw over the middle that a Northwestern LB returned for a TD. Ugh.

Oh, and Gdawg -- I only injured Persa for about a quarter. I think his backup played better, though. For some reason the non-Gdawg coach called a number of option plays with Persa. One went for about 15 yards. I think the others were limited to negative yardage.

On the whole ND had 153 yard rushing on 30 attempts and 278 yards passing on 29 attempts. What kept it closer were those two INTs and a lost fumble. Oh, and the time that I mistakenly called for a two point conversion play and was too proud to call a time out. Yeah; it should have at least been 31-17.

Went with UGA no contest this week against a DII opponent.

Good, the other QB is faster but Persa is the better passer. I think I may try to see if I can make them bowl eligible.

I am going to make the Week 9 deadline Sunday (12/4) at 7am. Get your games in. I'll check to see where we are all at later.

I know I need to play, but have been busy with the getting the kids places. I should get my game in tonight.

I didn't even know you still had to play Slacker.

Then again, I'm on a bye, and I still didn't recruit

Recruiting is done!

Michigan rolls. Mr Glass, Denard Robinson, injured for 5 weeks.

Notre Dame had a bye this week. Err, I mean ND defeats Navy 65-14. ND was up 14-0 after their first possession (this after Navy threw a pick-6 on the second play from scrimmage and fumbled on their second possession). Navy had 6 turnovers, including 5 INTs. You'd think it'd be hard to throw that many INTs for a run-first team like Navy, but they pulled it off...including 2 in the first quarter. To be fair, one INT did come on a fake punt in the third quarter. (I would have had had better field position had that INT been dropped, but he threw it right at the return man, a highly-rated WR who was rushing up to help defend the fake. That was his first INT of the season!) In the end Navy went 12-24 passing, if you include those 5 INTs as completions.

Three different QBs played for ND. ND's back-up running back – third stringer, since the starter is out for the season – had 100 yards on 8 carries and 3 TDs. The current starting back had 108 yards and 2 TDs. A FB scored a TD as well. ND averaged 6.7 yards per rush...Navy only 3.

It was a complete pasting.

Oh, crap. I play #1 Stanford next week. I'm incredibly torn. If I win, Michigan will probably be the top-rated team in the country. That's almost enough to make me want to throw the game.

(On the other hand, I may not be in a position to "throw" the game if I'm losing. That's not an academic point given my sucky performance against MSU a few weeks back.)

I actually have a shot to bring ND into contention, since I play both Stanford and OSU (#7/8) in back-to-back weeks. Holy crap, who put together my schedule?!?!?!?!

By the way, I love that LSU is ranked #25 with a 3-4 record. Stupid SEC bias.
