NCAA Football 2012 Season Catch-All

I pulled for the Dawgs all day, but in the 4th quarter my daughter, who swung the A&M-Bama game with her cheers, announced out of nowhere that she was cheering for the team in white.

Not much you can do about that.

She'll probably go to TU someday just to piss you off.

Gumbie, go to your corner. Stele, go to your corner. I want a clean fight. No eye gouges.

And...

Get it on!

Saw some quotes from the Vols Blog over on SBNation just yesterday. Let's just say that racism is alive and well in Tennessee and I don't think there's a chance in hell of Charlie or his family wanting to live there. Not going to link here because that would turn this into a P&C thread.

And yes, Charlie was pissed Thurs in pre-game and post-game interviews about the Auburn nonsense rumors this week. He was pissed that some reporter says something with no factual basis and people run with it. He was pissed about the idea that he would take time out in a short week to do anything but prepare for a game. And he was really pissed about the questions over and over.

On the one hand it's nice to have a coach that's desired. He's sent us to 3 bowl games in 3 years, 1 of them BCS, and been co-champions of the conference two years in a row. Pretty damn impressive considering where Krapthorpe put us.

On the other hand he's got a job. He's already in the top 30 of pay for coaches, and as we move to the ACC he'll be getting a raise for sure. Tom Jurich, who's in the running for "AD of the century", has repeatedly said that paying Charlie is not a problem. If he gets an offer from somewhere else, we will match it.

But the most important thing is: There's not a better QB in the country except maybe Johnny Football. And I'm pretty sure the A&M job isn't open. So why the hell would he take a step down to coach anywhere else? Did any of you watch the game Thurs night? Did you see the one-handed, one-legged Teddy carry his team to victory, a conference championship, and a BCS bowl? Holy crap. I wouldn't trade him for any other player ever right now.

Speaking of Johnny Football, did you see his tweet Thurs night?

Love the way Teddy Bridgewater is playing tonight. Playing hurt and still trying to will his team through this game #respect

Anyway, for what seems like the 10th time or so in this thread... Charlie isn't going anywhere. If we hadn't got the ACC move, and maybe Teddy left early after his junior year next year and we had lost guaranteed BCS access, then maybe... but now that our BCS future is secure, he'll be sticking around for another few years for sure.

Life is meaningless and full of pain.

Yes, I would have preferred that we had spiked the ball, but as the CBS guys pointed out, it did look like the back shoulder throw was open and the ball was just tipped and the wrong receiver just reacted.

I am really curious to see the Bama offensive line against the ND run defense.

I will be greatly annoyed if the Tide player who committed the dirty hit is allowed to play in the title game.

Look, I can believe anything about a coach's loyalty to his players, the people who gave him his first shot, pay equity, ACC bowl bids, whatever...

But the idea that Tennessee has quantitatively more racism than Kentucky to the point that people are refusing job offers there, well, it's tough.

Shoot, I watch Justified!

Nick Saban is committed to the Dolphins and has no interest in the Alabama job.

Wow, my Badgers are playing much better than I thought they would. This has been a pretty entertaining half of football so far.

Not enough buffer zone.
OU though...

Her academics will be too good for OU.

Really? REALLY? Hey Stele guess what. RACIST PEOPLE EXIST ON THE INTERNET? GASP!

Hey guys I saw some racist stuff on the internet and now I'm going to classify an entire state as racist. Oh sh*t I saw some racist KY people talking about black people. RUN CHARLIE RUN they gonna put a burning cross in your yard!!! Kentucky hates black people CONFIRMED!!

UT could never EVER have a black coach...........oh wait.

Post of the year, Gumbie.

What just happened between Nebraska and Wisconsin? Wow.

Some will say that's proof of a weak conference. I would argue that that strengthens the argument behind conference titles feeding into a playoff.

N.C. State just seduced the Northern Illinois coach. Anyone know anything about Dave Doeren? Can he win in the ACC? Or will he direct the Wolfpack to five straight years of 7-5/8-4 records and get fired like everyone else before him?

This is what the playoff bracket would look like under my plan of 11 conference winners + the five highest rated BCS teams. I used BCS rankings to seed the higher teams, and Sagarin to seed the lower ranked teams that do not appear.

I should note that if I used Sagarin to choose all of the at-large teams, A&M would have replaced LSU. But I know how important human eyeball tests are to SEC teams, so LSU gets the nod. Sorry, Johnny.

Personally, I think this provides the perfect blend of rewarding teams for winning their conference with the strongest teams in the country. It produces some great match-ups from the get-go, while providing realistic shots doe mid majors to build their programs.

1 - 1 Notre Dame
16 - 57 Tulsa

8 - 8 Stanford
9 - 13 FSU

5 - 5 Oregon
12 - 21 NIU

4 - 4 Florida
13 - 24 Utah State

6 - 6 K-State
11 - 21 Wisconsin

3 - 3 Georgia
14 - 48 Arkansas St.

7 - 7 LSU
10 - 20 Boise State

2 - 2 Alabama
15 - 52 Louisville

Here's the 2011 bracket. NIU and Arkansas St. are represented in both, which could help them recruit moving forward and begin to strengthen the mid majors. Don't worry, we would still have plenty of time to fill up 20 more bowls that would act as a sort of NIT for good teams that fail to make the field.

1 - 1 LSU
16 - 67 Arkansas State

8 - 8 Kansas State
9 - 10 Wisconsin

5 - 5 Oregon
12 - 19 Houston

4 - 4 Stanford
13 - 30 Cincinnati

6 - 6 Arkansas
11 - 18 TCU

3 - 3 Oklahoma State
14 - 47 NIU

7 - 7 Boise State
10 - 15 Clemson

2 - 2 Alabama
15 - 48 Louisiana Tech

OSU over OU? YOUR ARGUMENT IS FLAWED.

Oh Aggies, you so funny. Just wait for the now inevitable national merit offer from OU.

Looks great to me Jayhawker. Anything closer to March Madness, with Cinderella teams, upsets, and a bracket to fill out to win money and/or pride on would be a good thing.

Coaching carousel update: Vandy's James Franklin is off the board, having agreed to an extension with his current school.

Just checked the score...holy cow! Wisconsin winning - not a huge surprise. Wisconsin redefining "wood shed"...well, not many would have dreamed of that.

The biggest surprise is that Nebraska is still ranked today. That feels like the kind of ass-whooping that should drop you from the rankings. Some coaches/press must not have checked the scores last night. Or maybe just nobody else is any better to rank higher?

Skip Holtz out at USF

Charlie Strong is not interested. :p

Biggest BS in rankings is t.u. 25 in Coaches' Poll, imho.

Aggies are picking Cotton, reportedly against the Sooners!

Very interesting mentor/pupil matchup between Stoops and Sumlin.

And obviously, Goodjer on Goodjer action. Prepare your tears, boogle!

SI.com reporting that NIU got the auto-bid, so Louisville to the Sugar Bowl vs Florida and NIU in the Orange vs Fl St.

Find out at 8 I guess.

I think my dick just went limp at the thought of Mike Stoops calling man coverage while Johnny Football gets 15 yard runs.

Man. Kirk Herbstreit should be fired. He was the biggest asshole I've ever seen on TV tonight.

Remember when Billy Packer was a jerk to the selection committee a few years back for March Madness? And then he never got to call another game. Kirk was worse tonight, and he deserves the same.

I actually would have preferred the Cotton Bowl, as I think folks would have been more intersted in seeing a UGA/Sooners match up, but ah well.

I do want to share this little bit of awesomeness from Athens last night. These are true Georgia fans and a stark contrast to the idiots who rolled Murray's house after the Gamecock game.

Hahahaha all the Aggies loved it!

Didn't see it myself. Suffice to say, since Stele gives no description, Herbie is in favor of taking the top teams, not conference champions.

No he went on this stupid rant about "why only 2 teams from a conference?" and "who made these stupid rules?" and on and on...

Well the rules are the rules. They were voted on by all the big conferences, on purpose, to keep the little guys out. It's not like they changed anything during the season or did anything unfair. Amazingly one of the little guys got in this year, and he was crying like a baby about it.

The rules have always been 2 teams per conference. If you wanted a better chance to get in, then you shouldn't put 14 teams in the same conference. :p

But of course it will be fixed when there's playoffs. Because the limit of 2 will only be on the non-playoff BCS bowls... if they even do keep the limit. So despite the playoffs seeming like a more fair system, they will still do their best to keep the money in the top 5 conferences.

Anyway here's ESPN's Bowl List.

All 35 of them.
