Tkyl, you guys outdid yourselves. This looks *fantastic*!

Thank you! We're really excited for this game to come out. We can't wait till people are able to play it!

SOME people are able to play it. Hint hint. Nudge nudge.

That is cruel. And I think an abuse of power. Also probably illegal.

I'll get the pitchforks. Or do we use ponies these days?

We tried that, and we got this...

Man, f*cking reddit!

AGH! When is this out again?! This is my only new-game purchase this autumn. :)

Dittoed.

I can't believe I only just found out about this game this weekend. I think I thought it was that other Xcom game and just ignored this thread. I spent 3 hours yesterday watching game footage and immediately pre-ordered this on Steam. I never pre-order. I never pay full price. But classic XCOM with updated graphics and that ant farm base construction was just too ridiculous to pass up.

Please, please let there be a demo because Oct 9th is just too far away now.

Consider yourself lucky. Many of us have been carrying that level of anticipation for months. Just placed my order with Amazon today too ($5 discount and the rest in trade-in credit).

For those just finding out about the game I HIGHLY recommend you check out some of the gameplay footage. There are some that go on for over an hour showing gameplay. If you dont come away from that wanting to pre-order then you need to check your pulse.

2nd tier of pre-order bonuses has been achieved. So you get the customizable armor and hattes!

*Looks at Calendar* GAH! It's still not Oct 11. *sigh*

Also interesting to note is that on steam, Xcom says $49.99 instead of $69.99. Did they do a flip on the regional pricing?

Still $70 for me here, did you end up on the US Steam for some reason?

Oh odd. Now it's back to 70 for me again too. It's possible I was on the US page.

That Omicron Persei 8 Steam tax is terrible.

Tell me about it. I've been petitioning Lrrr for ages about getting rid of the intergalactic steam tax.

You just don't have the sfik to make them change their minds.

Blessed is my new AMEX card that arrived just in time to make the XCOM pre-purchase its very first transaction.
Can't think of anything else I'd rather break in with a Credit Card.

Hookers and Blow?

Hookers and Blow?

How is that different from Xcom?

Is that some kind of euphemism for claws and explosives? Because we have plenty of both.

Well XCOM is more addicting than blow. Also, you're more likely to get f&*^ed by XCOM than a hooker.

It's really a matter of degrees.

Also, you're more likely to get f&*^ed by XCOM than a hooker.

Uh...where exactly are you getting your hookers?

I thought it was clear that was a comment on the punishing difficulty of XCOM. Perhaps not.

I can´t believe there isn´t an "Oh my God, you had to have the joke explained to you" meme yet...

Who says there isn't?

There it is!!

This looks interesting, but I'm surprised it doesn't have procedurally generated levels. I know enemy placement is procgen, but I'm not sure that's tempting enough in a genre I don't normally play in VGs. Cover can be destroyed correct? What about buildings etc? Because that could add another (part) layer of unpredictability.

Wall and floor segments can be destroyed but you can't completely collapse a building.

Ya, that was a bummer when I first saw that. I'm a little worried about the repetitiveness of the maps after a while. If the rumors are true they're saying there's over 200 maps in the game, but I can't seem to find any official interview saying this. The other thing I wonder is if your soldiers entry point on the map is also random. If the isometric view were rotated and your team started in a different corner of the map that would add to the "different" feel of a map.

From the videos I've seen it looks like pretty much everything can be destroyed. While buildings' walls can be destroyed there's no physics to make the building itself collapse.

If you can knock down all the walls in a building, you just have floors / ceilings remaining, that's something at least. But when I compare this to BGs like Earth Reborn, which has really interesting ideas and has been compared to XCOM, this loses a little lustre.

Also, seeing there's XP and unlocks, I'm wondering they'll sell items and upgrades down the line. I have no indication that they would do this, I think of Firaxis as a 'straight' developer, but it's the way the industry is going.
