Fortnite

Save The World has more of a tower defense strategy. You can use walls to funnel mobs into traps. Think Orcs Must Die. In BR you mostly build for height advantage and cover.

Oh wow I loved both OMD games and that sci-fi one that was similar, FPS/TD. Now I'm going to have to try that this weekend too.

The only problem is finding ppl at low levels to team up with you. When you do get some co-op players in there with you the game is super fun. It can be difficult to solo some of the STW missions.

I think it's harder to find good teammates the higher level you are. At low levels you can ignore traps and just shoot everything and come through fine. At higher levels you get people joining who are ridiculously underpowered and want you to carry them or who have completely ignored the building and trapping aspect of the game and effectively sabotage your well built defenses because they want to shoot things.

I have fallen off but would love to hop back in with folks, especially new folks. I've gotten a taste of some of the attitudes at the high-mid-and-higher difficulty (late Plankerton+) and I'm so, so about fun over pedantic optimization, so playing with folks in the earlier stages can be more fun. Going back a few years to the alpha, I really soured on some folks who had decided what were the optimum tactics and got belligerent if I didn't comply. Ain't got na tam fer that.

I sorted the spreadsheet a little. We've got 66 player names in there (not counting people on more than one platform). When you filter, I suggest unsetting it, or using a filter view, just to make it clearer to others wassup (e.g., someone thought perhaps there weren't folks on one o' the platforms because they'd been filtered out, I think).

I'm midway through Canny, and optimal tactics aren't even necessary that far into the game. I mean, if you want to do a PL appropriate map solo it's somewhat important and the 1/3-walls-everywhere approach won't work well at all, but for most maps you only need a basic trap set-up. There's only a few instances where you need to have a good trap set up, and when you do there's no real penalty for overtrapping other than "wasted" materials, so I tend towards "overkill" over "efficient" when putting traps down.

Generally, so long as you're not hanging out in trap tunnels setting off a chain of propane tanks people don't mind if you want to stick to shooting things instead of building. There's been a noticeable influx of trolls who will actively sabotage defenses, so people are much more forgiving of "suboptimal" tactics so long as you're not doing that. Also the problem of leechers (afkers and low PL players in high PL zones) has gotten bigger, so people are more concerned about people contributing nothing at all to the mission way more than they are with people who play differently.

Mid-Twine player here and with the current state of turrets, min-maxing is definitely optional. Some basic funneling and trapping will mainly leave you cleaning up smashers that make it through.

As long as my team isn't baiting propane throws or actively drawing husks away from the tunnels, I'm a very happy camper.

Funneling is fun! Building even overkill is fun! So long as you’re not keeping everyone waiting overlong for you!

Two free llamas today in STW. This anniversary event is very nice.

Edit:
Originally this said two smorgasbord llamas were free too, but I didn't read well.

It's so funny to me that I don't understand a word when people speak about STW. It's like we've been playing two completely separate games.

I think I've added my details to the list. I'm playing on Switch so it's Battle Royal only. I'm also not playing right now but I will be back so I might send out some requests once I get into it again.

The last post on this thread was August 4. Is the Fortnite conversation happening on a different thread, or has the community just moved on to other games?

I'm in Canny Valley right now. preparing to do my SSD 6. Fortnite is really scratching my tower defense itch.

I play with my son occasionally, but for the most part I've moved on.

I keep up with it but have fallen off playing anything much. At all. I’m still in Plankerton and may hop back on. This game really really scratched an itch for me for a long time.

ETA: A big part of what attracted me initially was the level of engagement from other even random players. However, that was during the alpha, which spoarently selected for players who were more interested in communication and socializing during play than the general customer base is. Also taxiing wasn’t a thing, probably because of all the resets from version to version.

The current play climate requires more work to get the same kind of feel, in that I’d want to find a collection of interested people roughly at my power level and whose availability is compatible with mine. I think this is a large part of why I don’t play more.

I think what happened for me was that I got super into it when it first came to Switch. Then I realised that I was sinking way too much time into it, doing all the daily/weekly challenges, etc. Plus a 100% online-multiplayer game isn't ideal for a dad with young children. So even though I didn't go off the game or anything like that, I am taking an extended break from it.

(BTW, I only played Battle Royal, not STW.)

I've been playing for months now, and I like that the game is still evolving. I played in a couple of Save the World matches yesterday, and I learned a couple new strategies. I like that the game is complex enough to allow me to still be learning new stuff this many hours in.

One fascinating thing about Fortnite is how the two modes appeal to totally different players. They are basically two different games that use the same assets. Smart thinking!

I'm still playing StW pretty regularly. I'll log in each day to pick up the daily quest. Then a few times a week I'll run several missions to try to complete them simultaneously. I need to run more of the CV story missions, but I've been focusing on Perk-Up for all my weapons and traps.

I do play both mode. Tho I reached what I wanted from the BR mode, which was rank 100.

And in STW, I do prefer in coop. So, I play with randoms, who will box me in SSD when I'm helping. So I tend to play something else to change my mind.

And I’ve gone deep down in the rabbit hole on both modes. As soon as STW was playable on Xbox I jumped right in. I spent an unhealthy amount of time playing that. So one day I just went cold turkey on it.

Then when BR was launched I did something very similar. Again, unhealthy. I’ve gone hot and cold on BR several times. I’ll play BR again when and if they implement ranked leagues. I’m not competitive when I play. BR is a great game to just goof around with buddies. But without ranked leagues I’ll always be matched up with try hards. I’m just not good enough to keep up with them.

I jumped in on Switch, realized I liked PC version better, bought the pass, played hard for like 2 weeks, and then fell off.

I'd like to get back in and get my money's worth of rewards out of the pass before it ends, but then Rocket League went and released their pass and so here I am torn between online farming of items...

And mostly Spider-Man is fantastic so I've been doing that instead.

I get it. Sometimes I think I should play way more Rocket League, but if I do I'll never play any single player games/modes.

Thank god I don’t own a PS4.

I still play STW most days, but playing with pubbies can be painful. Not many goodjers still active during MST evenings.

I started commuting an hour-plus each way and now have a baby so my time has become freemium. I probably have time but I feel social anxious generally and the idea of committing to playnon a schedule only to have to back out is seriously intimidating.

So you’re mostly playing BR? Or are you just playing Angry Birds on your phone?

Or if I pay you $1.99 you’ll give me 10 minutes of your time?

I haven’t launched BR once. But I mean for $1.99 I’ll...

Does anyone have any tips for inventory management? (Backpack and Storm Shield Storage.) I'm constantly running out of space. This is a typical conversation I have with my brain:

Me: I'm going to get rid of some of these rocks.
Brain: But you might need those rocks later.
Me: I have 18 stacks of rocks.
Brain: What if they change the meta and rocks become scarce?
Me: But...
Brain: Keep the rocks.

That’s how I play every game, so I’m only here for solidarity, not to help.

Well, Sony finally backed down. Fortnite cross play incoming in 3... 2... 1...

Item of note, this is currently being enabled as a beta test for Fortnite only, but will be opened to other games in the future once a complete solution is determined.

This for the BR portion or StW? If it's BR lof their big fishes are going to be chomping on the influx of minnows.
