Fortnite

I picked it up, and am enjoying it more than i thought I would (I had misgivings about how the inventory worked). BR takes practice to get okay, and that means lots of dying. I have better luck dropping somewhere remote and looting until the storm starts to shrink. I'm never going to be one of those people who gets 20+ kills a match but I've managed to win a round once.

I’ve gotten back into it pretty hard the last couple days. I’m not very intrigued by Battle Royale so not playing that part. I have though been doing more than just collecting my research points and farming and hoarding, which is what I’ve been doing for months.

And the hover board? Yeah, it’s pretty dope. I love scooting around the map looking for side-quest items. Maybe I’d like a two-second spin-up but that’s a mild critique. I’m having fun (Bluetooth keyboard for my PS4 has helped, too.)

I'll still playing PC STW. Keeping up with the dailies and trying to farm enough gold to get the good stuff from the event/weekly store. Up to PL72 and trying to wrap up the last of CV gets difficult with the low population. If you play between 2100-2400 MST, look me up.

I finally finished up CV last week. (Note that even after you launch the rocket, you need to do CVSSD7 to unlock tier 4 of the research tree). It does get pretty sparse towards the end of CV and into Twine.

So is this ever going to show up on Steam?

I'm on pc, if it matters. Should I start with PVE, or BR? Is this like an MMO? Or do I need to set up a friends list and invite people to play? How does that all work?

I don't see them ever putting it on Steam, they're making tons of money as is, with no need to cut Steam in as a middleman. BR is free, so I'd start there just to see if you like how it handles. The PVE is still paid early access, though it's supposed to go free-to-play later this year. They're completely separate with the exception of v-bucks (used to buy loot llamas in PVE, and cosmetic items in PVP). You can use v-bucks earned in PVE on stuff from the PVP store and vice versa, but nothing bought from one store can be used in the other mode.

The general set up for BR is that there are 3 game modes: Solo, Duo, or Squad (and sometimes a 4th limited time mode). Solo is just you and up to 99 others, Duo is up to 50 teams of 2, and Squads is up to 25 teams of 4. For Duo and Squads you can form your group before joining a game through a friends list and invites, or you can do "fill" which randomly pairs you with others that have "fill" enabled. You can fill out a partial squad of friends with fill too. General gameplay is to skydive from a air-balloon/bus to a location, find guns & harvest building materials, kill anyone not on your team, all while staying with in a safe zone that gets smaller and smaller as the match progresses. Squads is easier to get a win in, particularly if your whole team has and uses mics. Tossing up lots of temporary defenses is very important, but you can win without them.
The friends list is very easy to set up, you just need to know someone's user name to send them an invite, or have played with them recently, and it's one list for both modes of the game.

PVE gameplay is very different, you and up to 3 others go on different missions with varying objectives, usually it's to timed defense of a stationary object, a few are more exploratory. It's more like a tower defense / 3rd person shooter. Your defenses in this mode will be more permanent and you'll want them better planned out. I'd recommend holding off on it until it's on a sale again, or if someone you know bought a high tier package which included extra keys of the basic version. It's fun, but pretty grindy even at relatively low levels.

Thanks Stengah! Sounds intriguing... Not sure about the grindy bit, though. Got enough grindy action games.

I got into the Fortnite BR mobile iOS beta. Of course, touch controls are super awkward, but the game is note for note, exactly like the console version. I think it even looks slightly better on my 6s Plus, than on my HD TV. It’s quite impressive.

The controls are rough though. They say they are working on controller support, but no eta on when it will be implemented. I have a nimbus steel series that would work perfectly for this. I’m so looking forward to it.

And the mobile version links with your existing account.

My iPad is an older generation and can’t run the game. oh well.

Save The World is meant to be a F2P game (whenever they get around to finishing the last half of the story), so having grind is pretty unavoidable. Unfortunately, you have to grind for everything. When you get a new weapon/trap/hero, it starts at level 1 and you'll want to level it up first before you try to use it, which means you won't be keeping up with levelling your current weapons/traps/heroes, which makes doing commander level appropriate content harder.

The grind is real. I'm in late Canny Valley (PL70) and can only manage to push another hero and weapon/trap to level 30 every week or so. It's not dissimilar from an MMO style grind.

The devs have acknowledged this is out of whack and plan to increase experience awards post Stonewood. I believe they said it'd be roughly doubled in Twine Peaks. Looking forward to that change in the coming weeks.

I finally jumped in on XB1 so add me if you want.
I'm loading it on PC as well since there is cross-progression. We'll see if that drags me away from OW.
So far, I find this more fun and less painful/costly (in terms of losing) than PUBG.

Playing on the PS4. Wish there were some more GWJers on the console that I could partner up with as the squad modes on PUBG were always some of my favorites.

PS4 can do crossplay with PC & mobil players, just not X Box players. You need to set up an Epic account (if you don't already have one) first though. You can connect your PSN account to it and then you can play with anyone on your Epic account's friends list (you'll have to download the Epic Launcher on a PC to manage your Epic account's friends list).

Huh, so no rocket jumping in this game. Lesson learned.

If anyone has one of them iOS invite codes, I'd be more than happy to run duo's with ya!

I play primarily on PS4 but not Battle Royale, just Save the World. I'm repeating myself but it's been...a month.

No, but there is rocket riding. Have a teammate shoot a rocket as you jump or while you're on the edge of a platform, you can ride it. When it explodes it won't hurt because friendly fire is disabled (any fall damage will still count though).

Ask and ye shall receive. I’m going to PM you a code. This is for mobile iOS version. It will be a pleasure to do some multiplayer with you, Fog. I still remember all the fun we had playing GTA V online.

I have 2 more codes to share:

1

You're invited to join the Fortnite Invite Event on iOS. Visit this link to start playing! https://fortnite.com/mobile?code=JD3...

2

I’m pretty sure my handle is “Rawk GWJ”. With a space in the middle. Please friend me up.

Also, please post which code you are taking so that others don’t waste their time.

Might want to check your accounts and any credit cards you have tied to it. My account was hacked early this morning and they tried to run up large purchases.
Fortunately, my bank automatically blocked those charges for me, and I've changed my password, but just a heads up.

I just came to post about an email i got:

Your Epic Games account has been locked due to multiple invalid login attempts. Please wait 120 minutes before trying to access your account.

There has been a lot of hacking of accounts for months now. I haven’t checked but there appears to be a way to enable two-factor authentication at least for purchases.

Edit: It's just two-factor for logging into your account at all. I removed my payment source entirely, so I'm not too concerned, but may still enable two-factor. Go here to enable it: https://www.epicgames.com/account/pa....

I got the email too

Remember not to reuse that password on other sites.

Epic apparently has really bad account security on top of being an incredibly popular target due to all the attention it's getting. It's safest by far to not have a payment source attached at all.

It's this. It's called account stuffing. Folks email/password gets compromised via a password dump from another service and used against other services where they re-use passwords.

Turn on two factor. Never re-use passwords. If your account was compromised and you are using that password elsewhere change it immediately everywhere else because someone already knows it.

The bright side here is that if your account was locked, it likely means you didn't re-use your password. Otherwise you'd be getting worse news.

You can add me. PSN name is same as here. I try to get on for at least an hour or so each night after 7pm central and usually play with my brother and/or another non-GWJ friend.

Muraii, you're welcome to come join us as well.

Disclaimer: we only play STW.

So - after switching to my Xbox one x as my new primary console, I wanted to try out Fortnite Battlegrounds or whatever its called. I installed it, and booted it up - it asked for an Epic ID, and I entered the one I had when I purchased the game for PS4. It said it wasn't connected to the profile. I opened the profile, and connected it to Xbox.

So- apparently this was a rather big no-no, since now I CAN'T play the free to play game? I don't get any choice to make a new epic id, it just pops up and says -"you are not authorized to play" or somesuch.

Has anyone here experienced something like this? I Wrote to costumer service, but the word on street is, that they ignore it. Any tips would be helpful.

Also - I actually considered purchasing the full game again, but that would just get me in the same trouble, would it not?

Thanks!

Yeah I’m no BR player. I’ll add ya but disclaimer: I only play a little and am PL44.

Would love to play with ya vypre, but I fear the time difference might be too much. I typically play around 9pm MST.
