Many thanks kind sir!

Thanks, Looking forward to slogging though some areas with everyone.

By the way I love how hardcore works in this game. In that other games just plain delete your character as its hardcore punishment for death, but I actually find having your character respawn into a lesser difficulty and letting you continue on with what is essentially a husk of what it once was. Is so much more sadistic. I love it.

Honestly I don't know if there's any difference between hardcore and normal other than the death thing, I just think that way of looking at it gives it a bit more depth for me.

For me, this is D2 and Titan Quest all rolled up in a neat bundle and advanced into the current day. Grinding Gears has a hit on their hands.

We should lobby for a section on the GWJ Vent server.

I made a channel in the Vent server.

It didn't recognize Squee9 when I put it in, is all. I'll try again today.

Nice!

Hi, can I get a steam invite? This one looks interesting.

I would like an invite as well please. This is definitely the spiritual successor to D2 for me, until Grim Dawn of course.

Just an FYI: The GCP (GemCutter's Prism) is the SoJ of PoE. It is far more valuable for trade than for the benefit you'd get from using it, so seriously consider setting them aside for later trade. Out of 100+ levels (scattered across several characters) I've found one, total.

So I have this gem casting Clarity. Casts an aura for mana regeneration for my party members and myself.
It stays on until I turn it off. My mana gets capped for keeping it going, but it refills so quickly, it is even
worth in when playing alone. Don't worry about giving up a slot for it. Just activate it and put a different
spell in the slot. It will stay active.

you can hold alt (or whatever highlight key) while hovering an item in the trade screen to see its item level. The other is that you can hover over an item with the mouse cursor and press Ctrl+C to copy its properties into your clipboard.

I'm trying to pick up a clarity gem for my Shadow but I never see one for less then 2 GCP.

If anyone has any of these for trade please send me a tell.

Lightning Penetration, Elemental Hit, Clarity

So how big is trading between players in this game now? Should I expect TF2 and D3 alike?
Right now I am just selling everything to the local trader in the game.

Easiest way is start a new Mage type and Clarity is a quest reward before the forest. I'll keep a lookout. I may have a leveled one. I think around level 16.

I don't really know how it works but later in the game this might be useful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk8XW... a video on what to pick/sell/etc.

Nice info in there.
I also found this link http://www.poeex.info/

Chromatic Orb, it randomly recolors the sockets on an item. You can find them in the wild, and the vendor will give them to you in exchange for an item with a red+green+blue linked socket set. Oddly enough, the vendor will sell you an item with a red+green+blue linked socket set for a trivial amount. Vendor stock refreshes when you level (and on a few other occasions, some quests seem to reset it, I think). So when you level, visit each vendor and see if you can get a chromatic orb on the cheap.

Cool tip, didn't know that. I typically just sell and not buy.

Really? That's it?

You can also reset the vendor by logging and signing back in. They reset whenever the maps reset.

Spent some time in it and I am really enjoying it. I'm level 11ish at the moment, and I'm going with a Marauder build similar to what this guy is doing:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEFD1...

It seems like a fun build, especially since my acolytes are playing two witches and a Templar. My Marauder character is SqueeNine if you see me around.

Made it all the way through normal difficulty with a pure minion build. Level 38 witch, 6 zombies, 9 skeletons, and two specters. As soon as I started the next difficulty, I found an aura gem that gives all my pets 60 points of energy shield.

The Act 1 and Act 3 final bosses were a challenge. The Act 2 boss was torn apart by the minion horde within seconds.

The explody minion passive didn't work out for me. Keeping up a horde of exploding minions was too much of a mana drain. Getting rid of that skill was the only respec point I used.

This is the only game I'm playing right now. Doesn't mean a whole lot since I don't have a ton of time to play anything right now, but when I sit down to play this is it.

I'm a big non-fan of the XP penalty in Cruel. I have built my Duelist almost completely defensively and still regularly find monsters that two-shot me. I'm sure this isn't a problem when you're on your third alt and have plenty of twink gear, but I'm finding it extremely aggravating.

Started a thread over in MMO, knowing that someone had to have this before I did.

Been playing the last couple of days, and really enjoying it. Have a Templar that just got to ACT II, and haven't had a problem so far. Using lightning strike with a bonus gem that adds lightning damage, and rely on glacial strike for single target damage.

Haven't really planned the build out past where I am, but am leaning toward 1h mace physical damage.

Yeah, this game definitely has D3 syndrome when it comes to melee characters. I'm in your camp on this, it's bleh. At least 75% of your resources need to be spent on survivability, especially since flasks and lifesteal/life on hit apply healing over time, not instant healing. Burst damage coming at you with no burst healing means you can either kite everything (be ranged!), be a tank, or group up with people.

There are a couple key pieces of tank gear for Marauders once you hit around level 30ish, I'm sure Duelists can either use the same stuff, or something similar. The common survivability pieces aren't usually too pricey, so I'd check around some guides for the piece you need, and then buy it off some pub.

There is a node out there on the passive tree which makes life steal and life on hit apply instantly instead of over time. Farming up to progress is definitely a feature of PoE tho it's a lot less painful than D3 cause you can actually find great upgrades on a regular basis here. Or barter for them easily via forums instead of having to spend a godawful fortune on an auction house.

We had very different experiences. I think I bought 2 or 3 things off the auction house in D3 in order to solo my Monk up to Inferno. I was able to continually progress because, well, nothing reset my progress when I died. Dying a lot just meant I didn't make much gold that day. I remember some parts of Hell difficulty having certain elites I couldn't kill, but that was it. In Inferno it turned into a purely auction house driven money grind, hence I switched to an alt once I realized my Monk was never going to get to Act 3 without a stupendous time investment. But that point of "I'm totally screwed" didn't hit until I'd sunk a good 40+ hours into the character.

My problem with the barter based economy is it's very unfriendly for the noob. With the auction house, I could do some searches over a few days for various items and get a feel for what things should cost. The only "advertised" things I see in the forum on this game are 60+ gear, so if someone has a cheat sheet of "here's some examples of Cruel difficulty gear that you should look to acquire, and roughly what it cost in January 2013," terrific.
