Path of Exile catch-all

I started a Steam Group, even though it isn't a Steam game. The overlay can be used though, when starting the game within Steam.
This way it might be easier to do a shout out (announcement) if you want to invite some people to create a party.

I've invited a bunch already, but I am sure I didn't get everybody yet.
Let me know, or others that are in, if you want an invite.

Okay the Ranger was fun but I put her aside at Level 16 and started working on a Duelist a couple nights ago.

This has been a more interesting experience than either the Ranger or Marauder so far. I've taken the Duelist to Level 12 and managed to gear him up with enough life and mana leech (not using claws) to have completely replaced the slow, imprecise default attack with Double Strike with Lightning Strike and Infernal Blow bound to the other 2 mouse buttons. Making my way slowly towards the cluster of passives that reduce mana costs for Skills:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-s...

Because I am using the Double Strike as my primary I've avoided putting any points into Attack Speed passives, which I feel would only affect the Default attack? I am digging around for info on this but my intent would be always to keep speeding up my attack rate and damage output but if upping Attack Speed won't affect Double Strike then I'll have to steer clear.

So here's the answer: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2750

Makes sense they'd do this in hindsight

I'd like to the steam group.

Almost positive attack speed works similar to cast speed in that it effects all melee attacks to include dual strike, sweep, cleave etc... in the same vein that cast speed affects all elemental spells (fireball, lightning bolt, spark etc..) I have a Shadow (claw specced) and dual strike is much faster as I went down the "attack speed" line than it was during the opening levels.

Another tip. You may already know this but you can map your main "spell" to the default left mouse button and when you're mana is empty it will default to your standard attack. I have found that to be helpful as I never use the standard attack so I get more skills on the mouse.

My buddies got on this before we were playing some League the other day, and I am very interested in this game. However, I'll be at work almost 24/7 for the next week and a half, and I still have plenty of other games to play.

I want to get in on this, but I think I'll wait until the full release.

I'll be on all morning, I'm 29 and I've hit a brick wall. I'm having alot of problems with my survivability. here is my current build, I think it works but i just don't have the gear to support it yet.

Still working on my first character. A witch, summoning zombies and skeletons, with supportive gems etc.
But once I am out of manna, it's running for my life. So am going to toughen up my character a bit.
The shield I have is nice though. For weapon I use a staff, but thinking of going with a wand and shield,
or double wielding wands.

Looks like a pretty typical glass cannon build, you are counting on Evasion to keep you alive basically, and its not going to.

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-s...

Here is my current build, a level 30 shadow, Act 3, Normal. Life 398, ES 91, Mana 232. Resists are 58 fire, 50 Cold (can't be frozen, unique item) and Lightning 75, Chance to Block 19%, Evasion is 45%, and if I'm not attacking (i.e. life stealing by hitting like a frenzied cat) then I tend to lose health alarming fast. Between a run speed boost of +23% and Whirling Blades + Flicker Strike, I tend to dash about madly, ducking in and out of melee range, dropping Fire Traps as I go. DPS is 167 with Double Strike (two hits with main hand only), I just realized I should have been using Dual Strike instead (one hit with each hand), since my DPS would be about 215. I'm using two Claws, Cat's Paws (A bit old but I haven't found/made anything better) so I gain 16 hp per hit due to the weapon inate +8 hp per hit of the claws. Leech isn't enough to notice, 2% of the physical damage as health, 4% as mana, but that's due to the relative low physical damage. I do get a lot of elemental damage from various gems and items, so DPS isn't a problem.

I am trying 3 life flasks and 2 mana, on the theory that I have plenty of mana, but when my minions are stripped away, it's life I need. That seems to have helped some in survivability for my witch.

I restarted my witch and the second time I did the beginner quests I chose the Quicksilver Flask instead of a mana flask. That thing has saved my ass on countless occasions! It doesn't provide you with health or mana but it makes you run faster and builds up charges the same way. Makes getting from fight to fight easier in a dungeon too.

I have never seen one drop or for sale at a store. That quest is the only way to get one that I know of.

I have had two drop, but I highly recommend getting it as well. Also use one of your upgrade a normal to magic item on it to get some added benefit.

This is full release. They will patch like any other game, but there isnt a "release candidate" to wait for. It's free and fun so no real reason to wait.

You have enabled me. Instead of having to get our TL2 characters back in sync, my buddies and I will apparently just move to a new similarly constructed RPG. Yay video games!

The quicksilver flasks are an uncommon drop, so you can pick up extras. I use the Orbs of Transformation/Alteration until I get the mod 'Dispells Frozen'. The ability to unfreeze and run away to heal is a lifesaver.

I can't find either of you on Steam. So a link would be helpful

Can I get an invite? My steam profile should be in my sig. Thanks!

Woah! Just got my first legendary drop! Perfect drop as I'm a 2h mace spec concentrating on life leech and life regen. I am level 23 right now and this is the first I've seen so I am assuming they are pretty rare.

Added. And it is amazing how broken this search still is.

I would like a group invite, too. Mixolyde on steam, I think there's a link in my sig.

Same here. I'd like to join the group. It's such a fun game.

I love this game, supported in closed beta, level 30 now in OB, playing default league so i can walk away from the screen when neccesarry *wink wink*.

Look me up on steam.

I'm also Fuzzballx as my ID in path of exile i believe.

I'm still playing this game, exclusively on hardcore. I have a 30 templar and 26 Maurader along with some lower level characters. What I really like about this game is that there are two things to worry about: equipment and skills, and neither is easy to get right. There is a definite process that has to occur as you gain experience playing the game. In my case that has meant deleting a couple of characters and starting over once I realized my skill choices weren't going to result in the build I wanted ... but thats okay because starting over is fun when you have better gear and skills that the first time around. In my experience, the game doesn't get hard until near the mid to late portion of Act 2 Normal. My templar is at the Act 2 boss fight and I've had some gear issues that have made things a bit hairy at times.

The skill gems and crafting economy make me feel like I'm playing some kind of CCG by proxy. I only started to really us all the orbs and stones that I've collected across my three characters in my last couple of sessions. Very interesting and invariably disappointing as I use another precious Chromatic Orb only to have it reset to the worst possible colours for my sockets...

I've heard that after level 10 or so you stop getting new skills and just work on passives.
Is this correct?

Skills drop as items called gems. As far as I know, they will continue to randomly drop throughout the game. And you can trade for them, too. You can get gems as quest rewards, but I don't know how far into the game that lasts. Passives start at level 1 and continue until max level.

Yes, this is correct. Skill gems continue to drop as loot and they definitely want to encourage you to trade. Very important to not accidentally sell a piece of armour to an NPC with gems still socketed to it (although you'll be prompted before this ever happens).

It also helps to socket skill gems even if you never plan to use them as they'll level up with all your other gems and be more valuable for trade down the road. They will stop leveling eventually if you can't meet the attribute requirements.
