Path of Exile catch-all

I've been playing a shadow EK EB build lately, which has been super fun, but my main issue has been mana. It's hard to keep a solid amount of mana to keep running EK (especially with faster projectiles and fork), and I'm going to have to work pretty hard before I can add in the Chain I've been leveling to make it even more amazing. But Fuzzballx is correct, the growth on EK is amazing. I raised it one level and it added like 70-80 dps, without me changing a thing.

I'm always amazed by how this game keeps me coming back for more. I was checking out the screenshot for the new Searing Bond gem and I'm so intrigued to play with that and something like cyclone or whirling blades (aka, I'm moving through you, damaging you, and there is this pew-pew laser of death coming too!).

Fuzzballx is partially correct in that moving around the tree can be good, but the great part about a game like this is that there are many viable ways of building a character. While people like Kripparrian tend to go for min-maxing and travel all over the map, there are others, like devmoon, who stick to a close area and make very viable builds. I know I don't have the time it takes to delve into the theorycrafting of this game like some of the streamers do, so I appreciate having two very different streamers, like Kripp and devmoon, to give ideas from all ends of the spectrum. It's great how popular this game is and how much people are getting into it.

I'd love to hang out with some people, trade stuff and play, either just leveling, or pushing into higher level stuff. Feel free to add Baloren to your list and message me. I've got a lot of gems and currency, as well as quite a few four link items and other gear, if your in need of something. If more people on GWJ are interested in playing this, we could perhaps create a thread for trading? It all sounds like good plans for me. Hope to see more of you in-game!

There's a few things i think you might be misunderstanding. For example you take a attack speed node right by shadow start. That does nothing for your EK, i would drop it.

There is a shadow EK hydrid tank build (what i'd call yours) on exilepro designed for hardcore that has some similarities.

I grabbed that node for the dex, knowing the attack speed was useless, and with the intention to grab the projectile damage nodes beyond it. Turns out I really don't need those projectile nodes so I probably should consider reclaiming that point at this stage. Another drawback of my build is that you are starved for dex to level your bear traps, especially early.

I've seen the EK build you linked. It wastes a ton of nodes just to pick up Iron Reflexes, which is a great keystone but not worth it given the cost in my opinion. If I had it to do all over again, I would go maurader so I think you've made the wise choice. I may try to get this guy to Act 2 Fellshrine for farming and just park him there. He's probably too brittle to go much further.

So I have not looked at builds, wanting to find out things myself. But I keep wondering if there are valid builds that only concentrate on one weapon set, rather than two? Is it written in stone that you need an alternate - ranged to go with melee, like that? Or can you focus intensely on, say, bows, with just magic from gems to go with it?

Ok, becuase of Fuzz, just found out about this game, I'm behind the times apparently. Downloading now.

Pretty much any valid build will concentrate only on one type of weapon, or more generally, melee, ranged or spell. To try to be a jack of all trades will gimp your character later in the game.

Hahaha. I thought you know all about it!

I keep losing my lower level HC toons due to sudden AFKs due to work lol. I'm starting to seriously think i just am not a fit for hardcore:) lol.

Well my witch definitely wasn't but that's another story of hundreds of intentional deaths to keep myself at level 64 for days and days of farming lol.

Think i'm just gonna transfer my meager stash from HC to normal and have fun like i been doin.

I have two default maps capable toons now and my witch is getting up to decent farming stats in terms of IIR and IIQ. Using a lot of alts trying to craft up great farming rings though.

That's the other thing i'm amazed at though. A couple uniques and a level 64 set of passives and my witch can clear maps and kill bosses faster than my level 78 LA archer with godlike killing/survival gear but no IIR IIQ on him...

My witch is a pure summoner with lvl 1 leap slam for mobility. I just stay out of the way and double curse stuff, when it's not dead already before both curses are cast. All the level 66 map bosses die in about 5 seconds, it's just rediculous. The clear speed is insane and you can do it with only 2 low cost uniques you can get for a combined 5 or so GCP.

Nope, first I heard about it was when you texted me about it. If you want to play sometime, let me know. Have a level 7ish templar already.

Edit: check that, level 9 almost 10, leveling quickly...when I should be working from home...

I just got two new shadows to level 10-12 today with radically differnt build goals so i'll have toons to play with ya. The game works well added to steam so we can see each other on.

Been playing this since November and I've really learned a lot, most recently I learned not to play with Fuzzballx. Thanks for the lesson.

Well, fine. I guess I have some characters to cash in and start over...

Or the reasonable of mind.

I was browsing youtube and I discovered that PoE has a fishing system. Complete with rods that you can use currency items on to upgrade to magic/rare and stuff like that. Not sure what you actually get for doing it.

Thats great lol I really need to step back in.

I'm confused. I've never seen or heard of such a thing in PoE....are you trolling or watching someone's troll video?

Chess and I had, politely and neutrally put, a falling out several days ago. Didn't wanna publicize it and make drama and hoped he'd refrain from taking it to a public character assassination attempt...guess that's not gonna happen:(

I aint gonna get into it tho except to say the feeling was....very mutual apparently, with regards to ever playing wtih the other person again:(

Lol wut?

This sounds like a troll video:) Never heard of such a thing.

This is a lot more powerful than i expected when i started out. i thought it was gonna be a slower clearing build from what i'd been led to believe from players and forums, but it's quite the opposite.

I use 3 uniques and the rest of my gear is really crappy other than decent IIQ and IIR so it was designed as a farming character, but it turns out, it not only has way way way better IIR and IIQ than my much higher level and more expensively geared LA ranger, it also clears EVERYTHING much faster and safer:)

Summoner OP imho lol. Lightning arrow, not so much. that was a 66 grotto map boss. I killed merciless piery in about 30 seconds just before that but didn't video it, she actually killed 3 of my zombies before dying...huh.

To do fishing you just need to farm Roas until you get 10 feathers. Trade the 10 feathers in to a merchant and you get a fishing rod. Then you just take the pole to a body of water and it basically works like Torchlight. You can even use orbs to alter the quality of the rod like any other item, all the way up to unique.

Dude, do you have a video showing this? Last time I checked, Rhoas don't drop feathers, nor have I seen any forum posts or dev information on fishing in Path of Exile. I think someone may be pulling your leg.

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-forum/dev-manifesto is awesome. I've read through the four articles that they have up there and I felt appreciated as a player to have them write up information about concerns I have with their games. I'm looking forward to where they are taking this game and plan to play it for a long time.

Fuzzballx, can you put a link to your build. Your video was pretty impressive and I've considered making a summoner and would love to see what you've put points into.

There is no fishing, someone is just telling you a tail....

PoE forum thread on fishing and being gulible.

The build isn't anything special,

One of the keys is boots of ullr and either the queen's decree (lesser option imho) or the wand out there that does basically the same thing but allows you to use a shield, and the necklace sidhebreath. using the boots necklace and either weapon weapon together allows you 4 specters and massively boosts up damage output of them. Then i just get the best i can get along with IIR and IIQ on my other jewelery, helmet and gloves and get the best resists/life you can on your chest/belt.

You end up pretty fragile so i don't recommend it for hardcore like that, if it was hardcore i'd drop most of the IIR IIQ and just go straight survival gear along with the boots and sidhebreath and use only 3 specters. Slightly less powerful but you'll live and still clear very quickly. The deaths usually happen to me when i'm just starting a session cause i have no specters or zombies yet. I suppose i could play it safe and go into a cruel zone to get zombies first but i usually don't so sometimes they flags zerg me before my totem gets enough skeletons up to make me zombies!

The big downside of the summoner is it it kinda sucks till around end of cruel when your zombies are starting to get decent and you can pick up cruel difficulty mobs from late act 3 for specters. I used the cruel difficulty fireball flags clear until i got the merciless difficulty ones! They're amazing imho.

The 2nd key is greater multiple projectiles. a number of different specters with GMP are awesome. You only NEE 4 links to maximize this build imho. I got a 5 link now for him on a ES chest and I added IIQ gem to the spectres since they get 90% of the kills at least. Couldn't thin of anything else they needed really since they kill so fast.

For curses i use enfeeble and flamability. Temporal Chains and elemental weakness would also be ok choices. I specialize in my fire specters though so i use flammability and set everything to burning. Temp Chains i'm prolly gonna try and see if it works any better than enfeeble. Both are pretty cool.

the build: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-s...

Go around and get the health nodes first while using some aoe spells and leveling up your minion gems then fill in all the minion damage and life nodes and a few of the extra zombie/skellie nodes, but you certainly don't need all those. 6-7 zombies shoudl be more than enough for 66/67 maps at least. I only use 2 zombies when farming docks as something to keep the frogs busy so they don't burst my specters with their incerate.

I think i'm going to spec out of minion instability now that i'm farming with the build since i don't want the randomly exploading zombie to kill any rare or boss mobs instead of the specters. And i'd definitely like to spec into necromantic aegis if i get that cool summoner wand to replace queen's decree.

You have got to be f*cking kidding me! How many times have I wrote you saying I want my sh*t back now? You took free items from me on good will only and within an hour blocked me on Skype, Steam and in-game. The feeling is not mutual, you took sh*t from me and ran a way like a baby. I don't reccomend anyone trust you or play with you ever. You have no such cause against me, so grow up. This is not how mutual works; what you did is called "unilateral". If you think this is character assassination maybe you shouldn't go around punking people. The fact that you have no capacity to work out your issues with others should not be costing me. I am calling you here, in writing, a punk as well as extremely difficult to play with for your ridiculous hubris.

And in case I wasn't clear, you have stolen from me and while I don't expect those things back at this point, it's you who is clearly behaving badly.

So... what did he take from you? Did you give it to him? Did he pick it up off the ground?

Any GWJ peeps running maps on hardcore?

My witch started maps a little while back and I feel like a duo/trio would be more profitable for everyone involved.

Just got to Cruel, but haven't had much time to play, I am at the ledge though.(skipped fetid pool and the giant crab for now to try and farm some gear/exp)

I havn't done any hardcore lately and only plan to play hardcore during races:( I do plan to do a lot of races in Season 2 though if folks wanna do those could be fun to get on vent for them and chat while racing.

Maps can be better solo or not, depends what yer running. And depends how you enjoy playin:) lol. If yer having a blast with an MF character, you'd actually be worse off grouping:)

I actually uninstalled this game last night after realizing I hadn't touched it for at least a month. I love the systems in the game, especially the passive web, the skill gems, and the wonky economy, but this game isn't for me at the momment. The gameplay or the multiplayer aspect hasn't really sucked me in at all.

I ran through one dungeon with a group of friends and it was basically all of us spmaming our various AoE skills until everything was dead, popping pots and kiting if nessecary.

Good game, but not for me. Hopefully these systems appear in some SRPGs or party based RPGs for me to enjoy!

Do you still play Diablo 3? Just curious what you see as the difference, if you do.

Robear wrote:

I do not. I powered through the D3 campaign once and then stopped. D3 wins for tighest control and has a better aesthetic, but I was not sold on their character building and customization model.

The game of this type that I enjoyed the most was TorchLight 2. It had a combination of aesthetic, control, combat, and character customization that really appealed to me. It also moved at a quicker pace for me than PoE. Most intresting fact about this game was that my two buddies and I all played as Engineers, yet when we went out as a three man team it felt like were all playing different classes, that's just how different our builds were. (cannon blast robot guy, 2H hammer smash guy, and sword and shield tank guy)

Thanks to this site I've also become much wiser about my gaming habits. I realized that I play almost exclusively League of Legends with my weekday gaming time, and occasionally blast through chunks of single player games in the evenings or over weekends (currently on Bioshock 1). PoE doesn't really fit in there, and didn't grab me enough for me to want to come back.
