Path of Exile catch-all

What's funny is the leveling guide I am following says, "avoid whatever the league mechanic is until at least level 11-12, or even Act 2" and I forgot it. Lol

I generally don't like melee in video games, but RF does look pretty fun.

Crucibles are *hard* for starting characters. Like die seven times hard. I'm gonna wait until my gear improves.

I'm not sure why but I seem way over leveled for the areas of content where I have quests. I'm guessing it is me running around and killing everything on every map, sometime multiple times depending on how many times I have to cross a map to find the entrance to the next zone. Got to find every drop.

I may have pulled a Flamuu D4 Necro boss kill moment last night for a couple friends on Discord. Ran up and parked my Lvl 37 RF right next to General Whatshistoes at the end of Act 3, granted the area is only lvl 29 but I got a chuckle out of watching one of the bosses just melt.

Everyone knows you don’t need to fully charge the Crucibles, right? There are distinct stages while you’re charging it, shown by the monster silhouettes dissolving and recombining, and they only get super difficult if you let it completely charge through all the stages. The first several stages are completely manageable by even low-levels characters.

That is what RF is for Redhwk.

I have a quest to "Explore the Atlas of the Worlds". I've done a mission for Kirac and invested a couple of atlas points, what exactly does the quest entail and more importantly, how do I complete it?

That’s the endgame content, running the randomly generated maps in the Atlas machine and progressing through the nodes to increasingly difficult maps and bosses.

If I remember right, once you've done your first map, the next step of that quest won't happen until you enter your first Tier 6 (yellow symbol on the map item icon) map.

After running the first map the quest has you going back to Kirac to complete it

I am at the same spot with my current mapper, I have done 4 Tier 1 maps so far. Wiki says:

Spoiler:

Complete maps in the Atlas until the player meets The Envoy. Return to Commander Kirac and speak to him.

My righteous fire actually sustained through a boss fight (The Weaver) without my using healing flasks! I'm getting there even though I started early.

Of the 4 items I have bothered to use the Crucible Forge on, 2 of them got -20% damage. One of them I am still keeping because it's a bone spirit shield with extra minion life and damage, and I am running minions, but geez.

*sigh* I think I am just going to avoid the Forge for a while.

I ran into a situation like that - not as bad - and my enthusiasm has been completely dampened. Lot of work to potentially ruin a good item that I would have trouble replacing.

I was under the impression that there was a way to unlock the tree early so you can see if you want to invest the time with the item or not. That it was a matter of quantity of specific item levels to find the ideal one you want

Yeah, but sometimes the first one is just not good for the item. Or the second. And then where do you go? Nowhere. No chance of making it better for your item.

AFAIK the only way to unlock the tree is to Forge the first node and then you are stuck with it, unless there is some kind of Crucible scour item.

I am only in act 4, so at some point I will swap out this shield for some armor base with life and res, but still.

Unless they've changed it, that's not true... i know when i was playing i was seeing the whole tree after a single node unlock.

Act 4 the item levels you're dealing with are too low to see just a few nodes. The forge will allow you to combine items, but as you're witnessing that's not a productive use of time

move on to the next item. Some may have something redeemable to hang to it for a while when looking, but the idea is to check and then drop it until you find what you need.

Yes. But I have a weapon that is fantastic for my build. I don't have a backup anywhere near my level. So... Kind of a catch-22.

then hang on to it and don't worry about swapping... Plus i don't think it matters till you start getting into the item level 75+ trees and you find that special skill that lines up with your build.

I am just beginning to experience that now with the drops I'm getting. It's heady.

All the diablo 4 ARPG talk floating around has me thirsting for a good ARPG, so I picked up PoE and dove in on Monday night and I'm absolutely loving it.

Got to Act IV last night and level ~40ish, finished my ascendancy (Elementalist) and am trucking my way to the end of part 1. Really loving the game!!

If you're into theory-crafting, there is no better game. Are you using a documented build, or just winging it?

reddit is dead and it is usually my go-to for finding reasonable community content for guides and beginner suggestions. I found PoE-Vault and their beginner league starter build list and picked one that sounded like what I wanted to do, so I've been using this arc elementalist build, as well as this beginner's guide from the site and this 'getting started and surviving the first few acts' guide, all of it has been really helpful!

I've seen a few recommendations that the best way for beginners to engage is to just wing it through the first five acts or so, but I want to play and enjoy and not think about the systems TOO much, especially with PoE2 sorta just around the corner, so I resolved to find a simple beginner build to work toward, mostly to provide myself with a good target and prevent my adhd brain from going in TOO deep

Icy Veins and Maxroll.gg are also great sources of builds. My suggestion is to play a couple of pre-planned builds, look carefully at why they work, and then start a Scion and make your own build. Great fun to be had and Scions can go out into any part of the trait web to put together interesting builds.

Also, download Path of Building from here. It's an interactive build planner, but it also can import templates from the pre-made builds so you can follow along as your character levels up and make the needed changes to your build. Great stuff.

the Exilecon keynote was really good. A shame even the closed beta is not till next June.

I was really hoping for beta this year and targeted release around August or late Autumn next year. I just loved everything I saw, still have some concerns from seeing some of the gameplay but all in all, this looks like something I could play in the next 10 years, just like I've been playing PoE1.

I absolutely loved all the panels too, art, music, animation - really gives you confidence when you hear how much thought goes into everything they do.

So here is my level 65 Necromancer.

I am roughly following this minion league starter.

Trouble is, I am in act 8 and doing fine on damage, but occasionally getting one or two shotted by bosses and rares even with my defenses up. Any suggestions on how to get a little beefier?

I don't know enough about that type to really say without digging into it, Mix.

Path of Exile 2 is just going to be more than PoE 1. More complicated. More features. More options. More skill in combat (thanks to rolling to avoid). I was just gobsmacked by what I was seeing in the live demo. I can see why it's taken them so long.

It's clear that Path of Exile and Diablo 4 are on different levels entirely. PoE 2 will outclass it in every way, and you don't have to pay for it, AND PoE 1 will remain in development for as long as people keep supporting it.

Amazing.
