Path of Exile catch-all

So how do you level up the skills? I took the ice cresent skill gem on completing the first quest as a witch and it said it is ready for leveling up but right clicking it or double clicking it does nothing.

Also, do skill gems only come from quest rewards?

I really like the variety in items. Like the witch has her "shield" that increases spell damage and her permanent power word shield like ability. But you can also get an int based bow.

I can't wait to find a link gem. I am getting all kinds of equipment with linked slots but no gems to put in them.

There should be a little icon at the bottom right of the screen, that should look like a gold/bronze cross, that you can click to level up a skill.

I think I've only received gems as quest rewards, yeah.

Oh, and you can only level up gems if you have them equipped.

You will find gems that are drops later on. And you will get support gems as quest rewards at some point.

Take all the gems you can get even if you can't use it. Inventory is shared so another character could use them. Also, look for equipment with more gem slots so that you can equip more gems and level them. You can just pull a gem out and reslot at any time.

I threw $10 at them to check it out and I'm impressed. It is Diablo 2 with a good 3D engine and an out of control skill spider web.

This will do nicely until D3 comes out.

This was completely off my radar until I saw someone link the passive skill, er... web in the Diablo III thread. Now I'm actually really quite interested, I'm a sucker for stuff like that! So many choices!

Has anyone else in beta experienced disconnects?

I'll be playing just fine, then next thing is none of the spells do dmg and the monsters don't attack. Only option is to exit and re-login. This is happening very frequently for me and really killing any interest in playing the beta.

Can't be my connection cos I've not had this issue with any other online game. D3 beta, GW2 beta etc.

Haven't had any trouble like that, emyln, but I haven't played in the last week or so.

New class rolling out on Friday:
The Shadow

I'll be anxious to try a Shadow. I tried to walk a Witch over into that part of the skill tree, but she wound up pretty gimped.

They're having an open beta from Friday through Sunday. The Shadow will be playable.

Also:

I've signed up, would love to get my wife and I into, as we loved played Diablo2 together.

Here's a little hint that I should have figured out sooner than I did: AOE attacks go off at the location of the cursor...

LOL.

Mrs. Mix and I played in the open Beta Weekend and enjoyed it a lot. I think we're going to donate to keep playing in the beta. We joined a timed event that was pretty awesome, too. The movement for some characters in the beginning is really slow, which can make the first few zones really slow in combat. The monsters in the first couple of zones move slowly, too. Once you get through the warm-up area, it gets much more interesting. I really like the flask/belt system for healing, too.

Yeah, there are a LOT of design choices with this game that I'm digging. As long as they keep iterating content and putting as much thought into the game's design, it should continue shaping up into a solid final product.

I like that they have an entire Forum section dedicated to their planned changes and updates up for discussion: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/vie...

And now that we're out from NDA, anyone who is playing can add "Mixol" to their friend list. We both donated.

Don't let Diablo III kill your excitement for this game. Check this out:

And the dev diary about it.

This is a great game. More D2 than D3.

That's very cool. It feels like a mod a fan would make a year after a game's release, and then players would wonder how they survived without it.

Another open beta weekend coming up: http://www.pathofexile.com/publicwee...

I've been loving POE for a long time and put twice as many hours into it as D3. It's not watered down and combat pacing makes the end game not so frantic you can't keep up.

And frankly, I like not being able to respec on a whim. It makes me start fresh if I want to try a wildly different build. I know it's a psychological thing but it is what it is.

I saw that they redid the passive skill tree a little while ago, how is the new one? I haven't been back in month or two.

It just came out Sunday night but it made a huge difference in my blood magic sweep marauder. Good things got moved closer together and groupings make more sense. I like it much better.

I popped over to my sword and board duelist and it seems like they moved unwaver (can't evade but can't be stunned) closer to the keystone that converts evasion to armor (obviously required if your evade is 0).

My wife and I will be playing over the weekend. Look for Mixol or Aerol.

Just started on this 2 nights ago and I am liking it a lot. Very Diablo 2.5, with a somewhat rough, dated UI design. I immediately latched onto the Ranger and was glad to find the ranged combat has a great, snappy feel to it. The skill tree is not as overwhelming as I initially expected. It's just a manner of presentation - representing the skills of all classes on the same screen - and it is fun to take a visual trip down one path to see where it leads. I might just kick some money to the dev team to ensure I can keep playing after this weekend.

Nice to hear the praise on the podcast, I hope that brings a few more GWJers into the beta.

Anyone got a spare beta key? Would love to try it out ... thanks!

I paid for the beta on Friday (which I am normally hate doing - I blame the bad beer and worse vodka I was drinking).

Is there any way to turn off global chat? The massive wall of red text full of the normal Internet nonsense and trade spam is kind of off-putting. Also, is there any Goodjer day folks play this?

Yes, within the options and the chat panel itself I think.
