Then once you conquer that, you can dig deeper. You've seen lava right? Have you seen the area where it is a sea of lava with occasional Ash that serves as land? There's also a secret boss there that when killed will convert your Terraria into Hard mode.

Spoiler:

I got to what I assume to be down to hell level and was instantly killed. decided that I had better mine some more lol.

You probably want to stay out of hell until you get an obsidian skull and gold or shadow armor.

I feel like I'm live-blogging my playthrough, but I just have to talk about it...

Finally got my gold helm. Now I have to mine for the ore to make my gold chest piece. Got a gold sword and pickaxe, the suspicious looking eye, and my guide has a nice one room house. I feel so close to a breakthrough of some sort.

Only your guide has a room? You need more NPC's in your game. Hmmm... perhaps if you keep building rooms, others may choose to reside in the free lodgings.

Hmmm... how many hearts does your bold explorer have now? If you keep exploring underground you'll find more hearts. But beware, evil is always on the lookout for bold explorers.

Spoiler:

If your char has 10 hearts, the Boss Eye will visit you at night. I recommend lots and lots and lots of fire arrows. PS. You want this to happen. The boss will drop a special material that's better than gold.

You can assign NPCs to rooms/houses by using the flags in your inventory/character screen.

This should be read for non-spoilery helpful information: http://wiki.terrariaonline.com/Inven...

Spoiler:

After I got enough gold for some chain mail, I called the boss eye and found it relatively easy. I had a gold bow, some fire arrows and about 200 HP. Made the demonite sword (can't remember what it's called) and bow. I talked to the old man, though... I need some better gear.

Right now, my dude has about 240 HP. After I beat the aforementioned boss, NPC's started spawning left and right.

Spoiler:

I think right now, I have the guide, dryad, nurse, demolitions expert, and the regular vendor.

I think now, I'm going to start going into the corruption and explore chasms. It seems easier than going to Hell, and I don't seem to be finding any better ore than what I have (at least in more than 1 or 2 block clusters)

Ohh nice, you're further along than I figured. Remember to buy something from the dryad before going to the corruption. I don't think a gold pickaxe will cut it.

Remember this about the corruption, shadow orbs repeat, 1, 2, 3 then back to 1.

Spoiler:

1 - Shadow orb destroyed - calls forth a meteor (appears with 1-2 days I think not always immediate)
2 - Shadow orb destroyed - nothing
3 - Shadow orb destroyed - summons Eater of the world. (Boss #2)

If you want to prepare for the endgame, use signs to mark the locations of all of the evil altars.

Anyone still playing this? Or have a server up somewhere? Just curious, I recently started dabbing in it again and was just curious if anyone was still out there playing.

I haven't played it in a long time...but after re reading some things on the thread it has inspired me to go back to it. Made a hardcore character (mostly because I never had before) While looking for a decent place to set on some kind of hut I fell and died...that poor character only lasted 3 minutes. I made a graveyard/shrine just for him.

LOL! I tried that once too, and lasted about as long as you did. I couldn't imagine building a character up really big and then losing him. I'd probably cry. lol.

I might be interested in playing online a bit. Shoot me a msg sometime. Also, are you in the Terraria group?

As far as I can remember I am. Is there a server that GWJ uses or does someone usually just set one up and invite?

Several of us have run servers in the past. I don't believe there are any active ones right now. I am happy to get a new one going if you're interested though.

I still jump on little bit here and there, so if you ever do start up a server, I'll hop on from time to time. I'm more of a digger/builder/organizer when it comes to Terraria. I like to explore too, but I have this strange addiction to digging/clearing and organizing stuff. I know, I'm weird. It would be pretty cool if a few of us would be able to contribute to building/exploring a brand new map.

I would love to start from scratch too, but my only thing is that I would totally have to bring my nightmare picaxe over. It's taken me like a month to collect enough demonite ore for that thing! lol.

I got this during the last steam sale and put a couple hours into it. Mostly digging and building a sweet castle. Then I found out I could turn stone into bricks. Crap. Time to rebuild my castle.

Last night I read the starter guide on the wiki, got frustrated with my current game and decided to restart with a new character and world. For about 10 minutes I regretted it, until I found this sweet cave system. I spent about 2 ho... OMG KILLER WORMS... urs exploring.

So easy to get lost in this game and lose so many hours. So crazy.

I stopped playing a while ago because I hit a wall with bosses. I can't play online anyway, because I'm playing on the mac...

Tried hosting a server again for old times sake... Can't remember how to do it. [le sigh]

Going to necro this thread for a bit for the console release. http://www.giantbomb.com/the-makers-of-terraria-have-added-quite-a-few-things-for-its-upcoming-console-release/17-6981/

Definitely a fun game to figure out and I hope some of these changes come back to the PC. The developer said he'd stop development of it, but obviously that didn't really happen, so *fingers crossed*

Okay, let me pose a hypothetical. Say I am considering doing an update for the PC version of Terraria... In the event that such a thing were to take place, what would be some things that you would be interested in seeing?

I'll buy this the day it hits the 360; considering how much fun my kids have had with split-screen Minecraft, the release of Terraria should occupy months of their time.

My daughter's going to flip. Split screen Terraria with daddy on the xbox 360? I must get this. Anyone see anything like realistic release date?

I play with her now sometimes with her on my wife's laptop, but i know my daughter can much more easily handle the xbox controller.

Damn, I'm looking forward to this alot.

I saw the game on Ps3. But there wasn't any price, or anyway to get the game.

Was there a release day ?

February looks to be the month to lol forward to. There is mention that there will be a final update for pc'rs around the same time (sorry no link). I intend to pick this up for x box, I'm more than happy to friend everyone interested in 8 man co op.

The pc dev said he was "considering" doing another update, but I don't think there are any hard plans yet. The console versions are coming from a different studio, though, so even if there is another pc update it may not necessarily have all the new goodies from the console versions.

Terraira has now come out for the PS3 and Xbox for $15. Currently it is on sale for 75% on Steam, but normally it's $10. A Vita version is also coming, but no release date is yet set.

Has anyone bought the console versions, and if so how does it play?

I heard they supported 4 player split screen. I will add the demo to my download queue.

It does have 4 player split screen and up to 8 players in mp.

I like playing it with a controller tbh. All I did was the tutorial to get familiar with the controls, but I can see myself putting in more time with the controller than the m&k. And a Vita version? Sweeeeet.

Currently on vacation, but will buy this on 360 as soon as I get home and suspect I will burn many hours on this with the kids.
