The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

According to the achievements page here, only 78% of players have finished the tutorial. Now, I know, some people may have just started it to make sure it works, but really? 22% of people have installed it, started it, and not got that far?

Or, they keep making new characters..

..Like me..

Some people really, really don't like spiders, especially gigantic spiders that could bite your face off.

I suspect such people cover their eyes during the Shelob scene in LOTR

or, we get as far from the screen as we can and squint real hard while turned away and ready to run... at least that's what i've heard some people do.

Not that unreasonable.

12:00AM - Stay up late for the release.
12:20AM - Finish decrypting and run first setup.
12:45AM - This is pretty sweet.
1:00AM - I should get to bed.
1:15AM - No seriously.
7:30AM - I should have gone to bed earlier.
8:00AM - F***, WORK.
5:00PM - OK, time for Skyrim.

Dear Bethesda,

Paper != Cloth. Telling your customers that they get a cloth map with pre-orders, then giving them a paper map which is textured like cloth, does not count you cheap jerks.

Sincerely,
Me

Otherwise I'm pleased as punch with the CE. The artbook not only looks distressed, but the cover is actually padded so it feels like leather. The art is awesome, as expected. The statue is *huge*, and looks awesome. The base is light and feels cheap, but the statue itself is hefty and feels solid. I can't wait to get home and install the actual game.

Am I the only person who didn't realize there were carriages you can take from town to town and had been running the entire way instead?

Guys, guys! I'm on top of a f*cking mountain!

Praise be to Akatosh, and all the divines!!!

Jump. Do it!

Yeah, yeah, shout it from the top of a... hmm. Carry on.

Holy moly just had one of those little moments of awesome..

I'm riding around, not doing much, just exploring. There's some mammoths around, I'm not gonna tackle those, just riding towards some ruins I want to check out.

I come around a corner (assuming the ruins were deserted) and run into 3 skeleton archers and they are already pretty close. Whoa! Reverse, jump off the horse. Backpedal.

Running backwards, Fumbling with keybinds trying to get my bow out, my horse is spooked and getting attacked, I'm getting attacked, not going too well here... Then just as a skeletons about to whack me, I hear a huge bellowing noise and Skelly-man just disintegrates

An enraged mammoth then storms into my field of view from behind me and smashes the other two skeletons, snorts at me then ambles off.

Whoa.....

According to the stats more people have gotten that than have gotten to level 5. I'm guessing that means I completely missed the obvious place to get it.

Um. Freaking amazing.

The greatest thing that's happened so far for me was some hussy getting mad because I didn't have a shirt on.

but only the peanut butter ones that he doesn't like.

You have a weird kid.

Hooray, back at home now! I have the entire night free, so hopefully there will be some more adventures featuring the cabbage cart transmogrified into a glorious, owner-killing war chariot.

Are FPS limited to 60? I've got Vsync turned off (as far as I can tell), but my fps caps out at 60, which makes me think Vsync really isn't turned off.

Yeah, V-sync is automatically turned on, you have to tweak it manually to turn it off from what I've read.

Yeah, I did all that, but I'm still getting capped at 60fps which makes me think it's not turned off.

My VSYNC stayed on until I edited the Skyrim.ini file; most pages I've seen recommend changing SkyrimPrefs.ini, but that didn't do it for me. Make sure that iPresentInterval=0 is in the [Display] section in both files and see if it helps. I also used the CCC to force VSYNC off, but it didn't work until I added the above line.

So, has anyone gotten the (number) hot keys to work? I keep assigning them, but then when I hit the number to use a spell, it does not fire. I think it might load into one of the mouse buttons.

Also, the mouse button labels are reversed. When I hit the right mouse, it displays as "" and vice versa.

Any ideas?

I keep mixing up the R and Z keys for some reason, which leads to a lot of situations where I try to put away my weapons, and end up yelling Unrelenting Force at people instead. Apparently, most people don't like it when you do that. Good thing I quicksave often.

Also, regarding the greybeards:

Spoiler:

Near the top of the mountain, there was a ridiculously tough ice troll. After repeatedly trying and failing to kill it, I ended up kiting it all the way up the mountain to the greybeard's place. It followed me indoors, so all the greybeards ran up and started shouting ice and fire at it until it died. Thanks, guys!

You jerks, I'll probably not play this until next year when I buy a new PC -__-

Replace Skyrim with "Heroin" and that kinda works too!

Wait, what?

...
No, you're not the only one.

Having slain the dragon, the mighty Dovakhiin returns to town, pausing only to pick lavender and chase butterflies.

Cornered and gravely injured, the mighty Dovakhiin begins devouring immense quantities of wildflowers and raw potatoes.

Yeah they totally got the mouse buttons/hand thing backwards. I realized it eventually and reversed them in the settings. Setting a hotkey number only loads the spell/weapon into you hand, you still have to use it with your mouse button. And I can't figure out why it wont save the favorite into the hand I want. It keeps messing everything up when I use it.

Yeah, none of the ini files worked for me, so I forced it off through the Nvidia Control panel.

Last mention of the Elder-Geek charity marathon. They just started playing Skyrim and will be playing for the next 48 hours. All donations will go to Child's Play and there are prizes and whatnot for donators. Again, this is a pretty small site, so I want to give them as much support as I can because they do really cool things.

Speaking of cool thing, right now Wes Johnson is Skyping in and doing lots of voices. It's pretty cool.

Amazon came through for me. I was a bit worried that UPS would show up when I wasn't around, but they showed up around 5:30 and didn't even make me sign for the package, so I guess I doubly didn't need to worry.

And then I was hungry, so I ate dinner before installing the game. Which is almost ready. I expect to spend a ridiculous amount of time just at the character-generation screen, paralyzed by indecision, so a little delay before playing isn't that big a deal.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed by that, too.

Thanks Nuean, I'll take that into account.

Just got the call from my wife that UPS paid a visit just moments ago.

LEAVING WORK NOW!

I am currently pulling it down from Steam after buying from GMG earlier today. Those guys have come through so far on slightly-discounted Steamworks products (Deus Ex and now this!). I'm actually glad I didn't buy the preorder box now that I've heard about the lame paper map.

I had no idea! How are there still nearly 100,000 people playing Counter Strike and Counter Strike: Source? The game is 12 years old. Move on people!

For some people it's like playing tennis or something, you don't get tired of it and you don't need "tennis 2"
