/pats Steam on its multiple hydra-like heads.

Man, all the stories here about in-laws and wives, etc interrupting Skyrim time makes me glad I've put off marriage for so long.

Game time minimized < Gets laid.

I win.

You can get laid if you're not married, man.

Did she brainwash you?

Any fellow console philistines going to a midnight release? I'm considering it.

This is the main reason I pre-ordered through GameStop.

Don't f*ck around with Valve. They have IP records for you; magically moving to Oz just before playing Skyrim is a great way to get yourself banned and lose access to the game entirely.

I don't think I've ever heard of steam minding the VPN trick. you just unlock it and make sure it runs, and then go offline. The only region related thing I've heard of problems with is some grey market keys (using a key from another region), and even then only when it's requested by the publisher.

ok, pre-ordered and loading... I couldn't resist...

Yes, I will be joining the unwashed masses at my local Gamestop. I am taking a vacation day tomorrow, so my plan is to play into the wee hours tonight and again all day tomorrow while the kids are at school.

*wrings hands together* Yes YES....another...ANOTHER!

There's a load of people moaning about the PC version UI: http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php...

Some of the complaints sound like really elementary problems, like they just didn't try at all to make a PC UI.

As long as the camera controls work like they should (as in like Oblivion or better) it should be ok

I guess that's too be expected, Oblivion was pretty bad too.

Still, I can't really get on board with feeling that Bethesda totally neglects the PC side of things, I can't think of another (major) developer that releases the type of mod tools, and the support for the mod community, that they do in this day and age. It sucks that modders have to fix what they should have done, but if it was any other developer we'd just be flat out stuck with a console port.

Heh, that makes me come off as a huge apologist, it must be all the pre-release hype..

Now entering final countdown phase...

Anyone got any issues with ati cards? Specifically HD 6850? Noticed a tweet from ATI saying they are working on catalyst update for Skyrim...

Yikes! My billing address changed after I pre-ordered so I came home around 4PM and see an email from Amazon. I quickly fix the issue and payment goes through but at 450PM it still says "shipping soon". At what time do I cancel and buy on Steam? Don't they stop shipping at 6PM or so? (this is all to ensure I get it tomorrow!)

You have no idea.

Remember that Amazon is on the West Coast. They'll ship as late as, I believe, 6 PM PDT, so I'd give them until 8 PM your time.

I'm still "shipping soon", too. Don't freak out yet.

Haha. Hahaha. Awesome.

In other news: I tried to watch a bit of the GiantBomb live stream, but the lip-smack sound the dude makes every time he opens his mouth started driving me nuts after 20 minutes or so.

Hype is a strange thing. I didn't enjoy either of the new Fallout games, this looks like it almost identical structurally and yet I'm tempted to buy it.

Yep I'm interested as well to hear from any Australian/VPN trickster early adopters with Radeon cards. I'm running a 5850. I wonder if we'll get as many customization options as with Fallout to tweak performance?

A first pass at a ranger type build, with a focus on archery, illusion, light armor, and blades.

It's really going to be hard to fit in a decent assortment of non-combat perks while building in a versatile set of combat abilities -- but at first glance it looks like they've set the system up cleverly so that it is possible to get a satisfying amount of the abilities you want on a single character while still leaving you itching to make another character to try out a different build. I'm curious to know how fast one will reach the "soft cap" of level 50, though. I sincerely hope that leveling in the middle tiers of skills will go a bit faster than in Oblivion.

This whole midnight unlocking thing really does make it feel like Christmas Eve. Only there's not friends and family around to keep you busy while you wait. Just the evil, evil video walkthroughs that are already popping up on YouTube. They're like the Grinch who stole Christmas.

Mine just finally changed to Shipped (5:40pm EST).

I have to work all day tomorrow anyway so I don't mind waiting for it. Though I do plan on opening the box and remoting into my home computer to enter in the key and let it install while I work. Actually, I think I'll probably pick up some Mead on the way home too. I wish I had a horn cup to drink it, but I do have a snazzy german stein with a lid that might work.

I'm not familiar with the combat or character progression.

That being said, as usual my character needs to run around like Madmartigan.

The twitter says they're working on a CAP update. That means it's an update for crossfire only (which I'm gonna need).

Man oh man.. I can't believe i have to work a whole 10 hours tomorrow and then rush to the shops to pick up a copy of the game before going out and drinking with friends and then waiting until saturday morning to actually play it.....

Life sucks!

IUMogg wrote:

I am!
This will be the first time I have ever done a midnight release, and it's only because I have tomorrow off. I can't frickin' wait.

I've got a ATI HD5770 and had 2x crash to desktops already which is a worry given I'm not out of the tutorial/escape sequence yet.

To be fair I haven't got the absolute latest drivers (31 october) installed so I'm doing that now. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for the update Goo. Any word on the performance tweaking options? Do we get a lot of sliders to play with?
