The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

So, what are you guys doing to prepare? I've taken my rig apart, cleaned dust out of all fans, defragmented every drive, and run CCleaner. The home office is tidied up, and everything looks good for an uninterrupted day of playing tomorrow.

I suggest you give the 1up review a read. It's a combo review by Jeremy Parish and Thierry Nguyen. Both played with much different styles and described how they felt.

That was by far the best review I've read. Four pages long helps them cover a lot more than other reviews.

So I was reading that the loading times were long. Do you think putting the game on my SSD would help with that? First time I've had a SSD.

Of course.

Is there a way to redirect steam to put one games files on a different drive? There is no way my steam directory will fit on my SSD but I could put just Skyrim there if steam can be tricked into seeing it.

There is a way to do that. Someone coded an application for just that purpose, which is located on the Steam forums, but they are down. That way would've been super easy! But there's an alternative.

Perhaps fortuitously my system had a major OS crash a few weeks ago, so I'm starting with a fairly fresh system. I'm debating making a fake beard from dryer lint and taping that face to get into the 'Nordic mood', but I may just light some candles and sing bawdy sea chanteys instead.

I have some beef stew which I'm going to put into a rough-hewn bowl tonight, which seems fitting for the occasion.

360 has been thoroughly tested to ensure it is warmed up and ready to go. Theater room has been vaccumed, Diet Coke has been chilled, home theater and plasma checked for any issues. Kids out with mom on a weekend.

Check.

Diet coke? Amateurs!

Absolutely.

I was thinking "Hey, great thematic idea!" until the video linked its newfound popularity to freaking Harry Potter. Now I'm conflicted. I am so sick of that damned wizard.

I am contemplating going to bed early and waking up to play when it releases at midnight. Just release it now I say.

Thanks, I used Googles cache of the steam forums and found the links to 2 programs that will do this for you. Looks like it just uses NTFS sym links

Here are the programs:
SteamTool Library Manager
Steam Mover

Google's caching is a wonderful thing.

Or, given the extensive history of Bethesda releases being buggy as ****, their testing isn't worth much or they have low quality standards.

For the record, neither of those last two points is true. While any software has stuff that slips through testing, it's the aforementioned huge variety of combinations of parts that leads to issues, early on in the release cycle. Especially for bigger, more complicated games - more chances for something to react badly to a person's setup.

That sounds incredibly uncomfortable.

Sounds like something Nuean would be into.

I built an all-new system, put it into an all-new custom-built acrylic case with silent, high-end water cooling. I've cleaned and cleared my desk, the office is getting the last bits of clutter taken care of this afternoon. I have laid up a few beverages of both invigorating and intoxicating varieties. I've told my wife that, while I love her, I love The Elder Scrolls too, and in all fairness TES was here first.

Is it wrong that I'm looking forward to reading books more than anything else right now?

New video card... from a 9500 to a 560 and vista to win 7 upgrade which included a full system wipe.

Unfortunately the fiance wants to go away for the weekend... I love her so I have to go too... lol

Pre-ordered it. I am weak.

If that's wrong, then I don't want to be right.

I greatly look forward to immersing myself in the culture of Skyrim. Whether that's reading books, or stabbing people. Honestly, it's pretty much the same thing.

I think the thing I'm looking forward to most is messing around with the new AI systems. My initial goal is to walk into a town, drop my pants, and see if anyone tries to claim or return them.

Spoiler:

And in the game, too!

Just to mess with me, the gaming gods decided now would also be a good time to throw a SWTOR weekend beta invite at me.

Holy cripes, 109 new posts? I think I'll just quietly duck out until the new release thread starts tomorrow. See you all in a post-Skyrim world!

Can't wait to see what happened to the lusty argonian maid.

Bought three cases of Mt. Dew and 15 bags of Doritos. Hired someone to come over and feed my cats and clean their litter boxes. Changed my voice mail message saying that they should call back after thanksgiving unless it's an emergency. Picked up a stadium pal . Put my mail on hold. And, of course, picked up a half pound of meth.

The length of this day is killing me. I can't remember the last time I've been so pumped for a game.

I havent looked. Is it going to unlock at midnight?

EST.
