Battlefield 3 Catch-All

So, GWJ dogfight night?

I am horrible at jets, but I guess maybe it will allow me to learn.

I think a GWJ dogfight night could be great. I don't know how many people will be able to play in the new mode but I hope it is more than 3v3. If we can get enough Goodjers together we might even be able to take over a server.

I stayed home sick today and and was kind of looking for some gaming while I just hung out on the couch. I have Battlefield 3 but have spent very little time with it. I spent about an hour or so on easy mode (I never play shooters so I pretty much suck) and kept getting whacked by one guy after another. I'd inch my way forward to another checkpoint just to get whacked another 10 times. Lather, rinse, repeat.

But then I realized that I just wasn't having fun. I'm trying to decide if I am just frustrated at my lack of skill which would get better if I actually played shooters more often, or if shooters are just not my cup of tea. I'll admit the violence level was kind of a put off for me, I could have done without it which is kind of silly considering it is Battlefield 3 I'm talking about and not My Little Pony water balloon fight.

I dunno. Maybe I'll keep trying and see if I feel any different, but I'm thinking I really am more of a sports/racing kind of guy.

The single player in BF3 isn't that great. It's passable, just nothing that is really going to hook you if you're not really into it. The game comes together when you're playing with others.

Maybe even find somebody to go through the co-op with you.

Dogfights? I'm out. I'm pretty damn awesome at battlefield (just ask me) but flying is just not my thing. I suck beyond the suckiest sucking of sucky things.

Hmm, haven't played in a few weeks. I really should get back to this and start whomping people with xbows again.

I can fly. I can even not crash into things for extended periods of time. Just don't ask me to shoot anything down.

EDIT: Also, there's a new premium video up that shows Air Superiority.

Man I like Battlefield games. Despite all the potential disappointment that might come from new expansions and new games the Battlefield series is the only one that makes me giddy with excitement.

Have any tanks been confirmed in the new expansion? I thought there was one in an earlier video but I'm not sure. I doubt too many people are going to be capturing flags with light vehicles unless the maps are designed around them. I wouldn't be surprised to if using the Javelin is a good idea on these maps.

Air Superiority looks pretty insane. I hope that the maps aren't small because it would be nice to have Armored Kill size maps to fly in.

EDIT: The air superiority map in the premium video looks a lot like the area I live in, wind turbines and mountainous desert.

Call for reinforcements with the new dropship
But that’s not all. You can also jump into the seat of two new AA vehicles or use the new dropship to call in reinforcements or parachute in behind enemy lines. The AA vehicles is the first time in Battlefield 3 that a troop transport has been fitted with a roof mounted AA turret in addition to a rocket launcher, effectively making it able to defend against both ground and air vehicles. The dropship gets awarded to whatever team holds the central flag in Conquest mode and lets you drop in an additional Infantry Fighting Vehicle by parachute, forcing the enemy to keep close tabs on your position or risk being overrun.

I must get back into Battlefield. I tend to play a ton, get back up to being a reasonable player again and then I start to feel burned out and stop for a few weeks letting my skills atrophy in the process.

I played a round of Tank Superiority with Mannish and I've got to say that I had no fun on that mode. I've never been much of a fan of large scale tank battles because once armor lines are formed it is very difficult to take them out. The only things that can take them out tend to be helicopters, which are not around in Tank Superiority.

On the bright side I played some Rush with Mannish and Rybificus and it was really fun.

I honestly can't remember how many of these have cursing but this one does.

Looks like they put something in place that should have been there from the start. A "complete your premium" discount structure for people who own some DLC, but not full premium.

Four expansion packs: 70% discount
Three expansion packs: 60% discount
Two expansion packs: 30% discount
One expansion pack: 20% discount
No expansion packs: 10% discount

Damnit. Guess I'm not getting a discount on something I already bought, even though I got one DLC pack, then bought Premium. Blar.

That discount is the kind of thing that would have been nice to have at premium release, but from EA's point of view I can see why it wasn't.

Nintendo are really taking a chance with that new video of Excite Bike that Mannish posted.

Surprise!

Ok, that's awesome. Wonder what it would be like walking into a room and then seeing everyone jump up like that and mow you down?

I was just thinking I'd have likely have thrown in a grenade to kill the equipment, since I'm still needing that assignment. Score!

So I played a bunch of this back at first release on 360, but have lately been hankering after a good (or great) FPS on the PC. I was gifted Red Orchestra 2 during the last steam sale, and while that scratched a bit of the itch, I kept just wanting to go back to play BF3, but my 360 has been a dust collector of late, so I need(want) something on PC.

Is there still a heavily active multiplayer for BF3 on PC? Do I need all the expansions in order to play?

Sadly, it seems one of those games that rarely get a crazy discount, although I can currently get the base game at gamersgate for 50% off (£14.99). Would it be better to just bite the bullet (as it were) and buy Premium (currently £44.99 on Origin itself, but it seems there are some sites selling it for £30, not sure how legit those are though..)?

Anyone who has played both the 360 and PC versions, how do they compare? Both in terms of graphics, fluidity, playerbase and opposition skill? (there were a good number of 'wandering nubs' when I played on 360).

Thanks!

Willium was a gay deceaber

Hooray Hooray!

Great editing on this video:

It seems the guy can shoot.

You don't have to have Premium, but I would buy the Premium Edition that includes the base game + Premium.

It's on sale frequently. Green Man Gaming also has coupons that generally apply to it, and they give you a key that you can just plug into Origin. If you check their deals pages, I think they even have a 25% off coupon now.

Graphics: Much better. Fluidity as well (uncapped FPS vs 30 on console). Player skill? Probably idiots everywhere. They're just more accurate due to the controls on PC.

Anyone else having trouble connecting? I'm getting an error from battlelog: Game disconnected: Something went wrong.

I'm assuming the something has to do with the punkbuster DDOS, but I still see other people playing in PB protected servers.

Thanks! I saw a recent sale on GMG, but it appeared to be US only, strangely. Either way, I missed it. The 25% off they currently have is for the boxed version, but they are running a 20% off code that, when applied, brings the price for the full whack to £32. Not too shabby if I have as much fun as I have had previously. I'm natively a PC FPS guy historically, but friend-player base pushed me to 360 back at BF3 release. Now however, I don't mind just getting down with pubs or whatever, so I might take that plunge tonight!

EDIT: Actually, it looks like Origin will have some form of deal on the 16th (as part of their not-so-mystery sale). Think I'll hang off until then, just in case it's a cracker of a deal.

Origin is selling the base game for $12, which is supposedly 70% off.

Nice deal, get it if you haven't done so already and in the mood for a fun FPS.

You talked me into it, although I hate losing at games and I'm bound to die repeatedly.

BF3 is a pretty complex shooter. You have to be patient while learning.
