Battlefield 3 Catch-All

Played some more and still enjoying it. The earthquake aspect has freed them up to get out of the rigid street structure. The levels are just what I enjoy. They play great but they are also very atmospheric.

You don't half get rusty quick when you've been away for a few weeks. By the end of my multi hour session I was starting to get my groove back.

New levels are pretty damn awesome. Also, that Xbow is just epicly overpowered. I love it!

I don't think it's overpowered at all. I think it's a good balance of difficulty (huge drop and slow velocity) and vulnerability (long reload) with quick killing power.

Yes, some players will dominate with it. But it's still a pretty skill based weapon.

After playing a few games, I'm thinking Aftermath is the best DLC yet. Karkand is up there as well. Close Quarters is the worst of the bunch. Here's hoping End game delivers but hard to top Aftermath!

*Edit..Close quarters is bottom of the list for me as the levels are just bland and very little creativity.

I don't know. I have the same problem with it that I have with sniper rifles. Weapons that are one-shot kills from up close and at distance are OP in my book. In my perfect BF3 world, it'd take too long to draw your xbow/sniper rifle to make it effective in close combat. But I'm a known whiner.

EDIT: but I agree that the new maps are awesome and a million times better than Close Quarters.

I didn't like the 1HK sniper mechanic in BFBC2, but don't mind the shotguns and way snipers work in BF3. If anybody could pull off constant 1HK's back to back, that's one thing. But while there are people that can in BF3, they're good players and could kill you quickly with anything. And they're fairly rare IME.

So I like it OK.

I wish sniper rifles were better in BF3. Well, maybe I just wish I understood the lag and the lead better in BF3 because I have much more trouble hitting moving targets in BF3 than any other Battlefield game I've ever played.

The only weapons I truly dislike are the auto and semi auto shotguns. Also the 93R.

I am the "noob" and I love it.

I can't belive these videos haven't been posted here. They go all the way up to EP 13.

EDIT: On ep 9 right now, almost every single one of these videos have 'happened to me' at one point or another.

Several of them were posted. They just have been on a break. Had a season finale and all.

Yeah, those are pretty awesome. Haven't seen them in ages. Good to know they've got some new ones.

Also, stand by my original statement, Xbow is OP Seriously, 1 shot kills. It's like, line guy up, pull trigger, switch to main weapon and mow down the rest. It's like easy mode. Sometimes you even get the multi kills with it. So far I've only managed 2 in a row, but I'm trying for more. It's my new goal!

i've had instances when i wasn't even getting one shot kills anymore.

so i swapped to medium range bolt with a sniper scope for a bit. sniped a few guys while carrying a shotty. got my william tell assignment done and stopped using.

really? multi kills? what kind of bolts?

Standard bolt. Close range. The damage drops off pretty quickly, so if you get in close, if you get guys coming down a corridor, you can line them up, fire and it will pass through them. Like I said, I've only got 2 in a row so far (but a few of them) but no 3 or more, so I'm not sure if it passes through the second guy.

They do get multis. Torso or above out to 20m. 100 dmg trailing off to 60 at range.

The long range bolt is 80dmg max, dropping to 50 at range. It travels slower but doesn't drop much at all.

Explosive bolt is even slower (about RPG speed), but does 100dmg at direct impact plus explosive.

Scan bolt does only like 10Dmg.

You switch bolts with the key you use for switching fire modes.

i know many will cry foul, but they really need to bring back sniper rifles to BC2 numbers. 100 damage up to 20 yards or whatever.

And thanks for those numbers, I will definitely give it another whirl, but really, as someone who plays assault more often than not, i really havne't found the need for a xbow (i prefer medpacks or other kit stuff).

How do you unlock the Xbow? I've been playing for a couple of days and can't seem to find it anywhere in my load-outs.

win 5 rounds of scavenger. it's in your utility slot (#3)

Is it 5 rounds? I thought it was 3.

It is. Then there are other assignments that unlock the other bolts.

Is it just me or has there been noticeable lag lately? I've been encountering many odd situations lately that I can only attribute to lag. Normally I wouldn't think much of it but I've encountered too many enemies that die 0.3 second after I stop shooting them. I've also had too many %60 hp remaining after 10 shots to the body encounters today.

This has happened to me on servers with 100 ping and 20 ping.

Hmm, now that you mention that, I have noticed that. Wonder what they did.

Not noticed anything unusual on my end.

The last games I played yesterday were fine with no noticeable lag.

However, I've committed suicide a few times when jumping over things in the Aftermath DLC. This has happened a few times on other maps, I'm pretty sure it is lag based or maybe it is a really difficult to replicate glitch.

I died jumping over a rail, a burned out car, and I think slightly uneven terrain that causes a vaulting animation. In all cases I would jump and I would slingshot forward very quickly and die when I stop moving. Has anyone else ever encountered this?

Lastly. Pikey never stops moving in CQD. It's a bit like Wiley Coyote trying to catch the Road Runner, except I just want to heal him up from the wounds he takes while he steamrolls people.

Well thanks to gimpy keeping me healed, I was finally able to experiment with the xbow.

I did get a double kill. It felt... amazing.

And then I realized, my overall play was like crap cause of my heavy reliance on usually carrying a medkit of my own and the xbow replacing the medkit. Had Gimpy not been there wingmanning it up with me and also keeping my health topped, I may never have gotten around to the double kill.

I recently reinstalled the game, and played it for the first time since about the time it launched. Now that I have a computer which can actually handle the game well, it seemed like it would be worthwhile. I learned a few things.

The first is that my Battlefield skills have completely rusted. That said, charging in with a shotgun is always fun.

The second is that good lord are there a lot of expansions for this game. It looks like $50 to get the bundle with all of them. Would I need them to jump in with the rest of you?

Lastly, I learned that everyone who is playing this game has unlocked all of the things by now, whereas I have not. I'm not feeling totally ineffectual, but I keep seeing people with cool toys that I do not have. Oh well.

Don't worry about it too much. Some of the most well rounded guns in the games are all starter weapons for the classes.

It takes too long to switch out bolts for the alternate types to be useful. I usually run regular bolts but to switch to a HE bolt takes a bit of time... maybe half a reload? Last time a Rhino drove past me I just shot a bolt into the back door (giggity) to get a kill rather than waste time switching to the HE.

I feel like the crossbow has a huge movement and no-scope penalty. I've had some very close shots miss wide where I shot unscoped and on the move. Not the best use of the weapon, but you really have to stop and shoot with it. Reminds me of AWP'ing in Counter-Strike.

I don't know the damage model of the HE rounds but I did try to finish off a tank with them to little effect. Since then I've not bothered to try them and I've stuck with the default bolts since.

I think they're mainly for light vehicles like in Aftermath. Or lucky air vehicle hits.

Ugh, it can be so frustrating with the majority of servers having high ticket counts.

That's my biggest complaint with this game.
