Battlefield 3 Catch-All

Smith322 anybody around here? Got an invite, but I don't think it is. I think it might be a random, because I don't see any other GWJ names I know of on his friends list.

EDIT: Even after the slight nerf, the M416 is a heck of a all arounder.

I don't think I like Scavenger. I don't know how the gun spawns are determined but I really don't like the weapon selection for most of spawns.

The PDWs seem to mostly be the PP2000 or the MP7. Sometimes the M5K or the P90 will pop up.

The shotguns spawn far too often, especially since the maps have much more medium to long range combat.

The carbines and assault rifles seem fine.

I've seen two semi auto sniper rifles and the M98, the setups seem good for them.

If I even see a LMG I won't pick it up because the last time I did it had a 4x scope that is useless in any close to medium combat in most circumstances.

Aside from my initial impressions of Scavenger Mode these maps seem really cool. There is so much to look at and so many angles to cover in firefights. There is one map that I've played that may end up being really unbalanced once people learn the map.

By 'leveling', you mean 'randomly/artificially nerfing' players. I don't know... I suppose I could be just acting unreasonable and hostile towards modes outside of the Conquest variations and rush, but meh just not a fan of it at all. The problem is the weapon spawns seem to be a bit too randomized, and some of the loadouts are downright terrible, add those problems to potentially picking up a downright mediocre weapon or a weapon that just doesn't suit the map... you have problems. If those things were a little bit more static or the weapon randomization were smaller or not there, I could get behind it, but right now, it just seems like 'experimentation'. Something that DICE is just trying out and throwing out there, hoping it sticks. Just like Tank Superiority or Gun Master.

Interesting, I was expecting it to be predictable spawn locations and to turn into 'sprint for the best gun', with players that learn the maps very quickly beating all comers. I think the weapon spawns being random and some of them being terrible is in keeping with the concept of the game type, i.e. 'after an earthquake' survival mode. I'm looking forward to trying it.

PKP Pechneg man. ANd it come swith a red dot too. Every time I see one of those it's a 'woo time to fix my KD' moment.

There are spawn points that are set, it's the guns that randomize. The guns are rated at levels 1, 2, and 3, although sometimes the level 3 guns are really much harder to use than the 1s.

the level of the guns per its spawn point is pretty/usually static. but there are multiple types of weapons per level.

If you see an M249 pick it up and go stand by the ammo crate, then pile on the kills. The key to scavenger is knowing what gun you're picking up. Then you have to suit your play style to the strenghs of the weapon you have. So if you pick up say a SCAR-L you know it's a medium to long range gun so you should try to avoid close range engagements. If you get a shotty, camp a flag, or stick to tight spaces.

I didn't even realize there were ammo crates for quite awhile, and I still don't really know exactly where they are on the maps. But when I find one, inevitability it's when I'm carrying the worst gun in the world for me

I don't have that much of a problem with the weapon randomness. I like using shotguns in some situations, but many times when I pick up something like a shotgun or a xbow, I'll still run around with my REX until I'm in an appropriate area for the pick up weapon's use. Or until I find a better all-arounder.

And I end up cutting off the lasers a lot situationally. If you're trying to peek a guy or bait somebody, lasers aren't your friend.

I do wish that you'd get a better indicator of what gun model and equipment you picked up. I can imagine somebody that buys one of the Premium bundle sales of BF3 jumping into this with the huge number of weapons included in BF3. As in text somewhere on the screen. That could just be worked into the little wireframe that you see when you see it in a game for pickup.

Yeah I found the ammo crate for the first time today. It seems like every map has its own ammo crate, just the one and usually in a hot spot near the center of the action.

I think I told somebody I was playing with last night that my first impression of these maps was that they wanted to have maps like Grand Bazaar without the extreme choke pointing. And I think that's a great thing. Then there's the map with the little helicopters that may feel like a touch of Sharqi in how it seems to play.

All very good, at least with only one day played and no map exploits floating around to ruin things yet.

DLC rankings from me after my little bit of time with this:

Karkand
Aftermath (slightly behind, but not by much)
CQ (surprisingly)
Armored Kill (Mainly because of how I think the AC-130 broke some of the gameplay early on after release)

I think overall across all the maps, there's some really good ones for PC in BF3. Console I'm less impressed, but I only have vanilla.

I hope that they learn good things from this. I'm really happy that Aftermath didn't include a Metro corridor map, even though I know it's apparently hugely popular and one of if not the most played map.

It's hard for me to believe that the same folks that came up with Metro or Bazaar created these. IMO they are vastly better.

A shame they weren't there from the start.

The other half of the patch is here on 360. Another 1.59 GB. I guess aftermath wasn't hidden in that other patch after all.

Edit: So far they are a breath of fresh air. The maps have a great flow. I really enjoyed a match on Epicentre. I was having so much fun getting into skirmish after skirmish I didn't look at the score once (well, maybe towards the end...)

I think Bazaar is a good map with a flaw of that central corridor being too tight, with the only entries all being big choke points.

Not anymore. After CQ came out, I've been seeing a LOT less Metro servers, which I am sure was their intention/goal with the CQ pack.

That Aftermath map with choppers is a fantastic map. With all these snipers on rooftops (you know how obsessed they are with rooftops), it's just amazing. Zipping in and out through the buildings and then surfacing for a bit to take out the enemy chopper than the school of snipers hanging out up top (I am sure snipers will learn not to go up soon). It's... delish.

I'd say my ranking is as follows

Aftermath
Close Quarters
Karkand
Armored Kill

Vanilla content fitting somewhere between Close Quarters and Karkand.

Screenshots from two rounds of Aftermath last night. I'm not sure who was happier, Moto or me.

Good fun tonight guys. Were some of you using some other chat besides the Battlelog chat, or were you just being shy? Me and Lightning were the only two talking while I was in.

We were in voice in the party talking to each other

Of course you didn't hear me. You were too busy killing me with the Xbow...over...and...over...and...over.

Here of Better Battlelog? Go check this out: http://getbblog.com

The plugin adds so many cool features like Weapon Accuracy Data (Plot Data), Extended Weapon Information, Bullet Hit Mapping (which is really cool) and so much more. I don't think I will get any work done this morning

From their site:

Better Battlelog (BBLog) is a Browser Add-on for Battlelog. Battlelog is the social network for some shooter games from EA.

Battlelog is a good piece of software but there's always a way to improve things. Our job starts here.

If you're a fan of highly detailed statistics, secret weapons information, cool improvements and all that stuff. That a "normal" user don't have, you really should try out our extension.

BBLog has over 1.000.000 downloads and it's used worldwide.

I've been using Battlelog+, mainly for the way it stores preset server browser settings so that you can have several types of searches ready without having to click all the individual check boxes every time. I think you can actually use both together, though.

ha! it's the one thing from BO2 skill wise that can transfer over to BF3 now. I wasnt able to kill anyone with a normal gun it seemed.

I had a better than usual night last night. I think Scavenger suits me because I've used so many different guns in the game. I generally try to get a star for a gun and move on to the next, so I've used most of them outside of the bolt actions.

I bet I was close to a 2.0 K/D across my games, which for me is unheard of. I'm normally a 1.2 K/D guy.

Played some Scavenger rounds last night, a lot of fun. These new maps are really well designed, nice flow to them, not too many chokepoints, a nice amount of verticality. Haven't played anything but Scavenger yet, looking forward to a Rush round or two on them.

Hey guys have you been using the Vent server for chat or in game. I think I have a few of you on my FL but if not hit me up. I am looking to play some more since I am done with Blops.

I haven't seen many in Vent lately. Mostly the party chat for me, but it sounds like last night some of the guys were also in Mumble.

FYI, I will make an effort to join either TS or Mumble. If you see me there, I'd be the quiet one on as PixelSynth.

Mirror's Edge Easter Egg in Aftermath. What is this, about 3 or 4 in BF3? I know there was one in AK, and maybe in Metro?
