Battlefield 3 Catch-All

What's everyone's favorite map/mode for slow/old guys that still gives a fair amount of XP.

I find that if I go into CQB and run/gun a la COD I get crazy XP, but that's now really how I want to play.

Infantry heavy? Probably Bazaar. My personal favorite is Karkand.

If you're playing TDM, Canals or Kharg.

TDM is a great place to unlock gun attachments quickly, because it's a fast way to get a lot of kills in a hurry. Plus, it lets you get in a grove with the particular gun characteristics.

For El-Producto.

I guess for Conquest I would recommend Caspian Border 48-64 players, Karkand any number of players, Sharqi Peninsula 32-64 players, Grand Bazaar 32-64 players Operation Firestorm 64 players, Gulf of Oman 48-64 players, and Kharg Island 64 players. I try not to cover everything on the big maps. Instead I focus on keeping control over 2 or 3 of the capture points. If I start to get dominated in certain areas I tend to change spawns and attack or defend a different location.

For Rush, which I don't play too often, I would stay away from every server that has more than 32 players. I think the optimal number for most maps is somewhere between 24-32 players.

I don't enjoy CQD much but it can be very fun sometimes. Stay away from servers with more than 32 players, but I have had one or two fun games at 64 players.

TDM is pretty good on Oman, Norshar Canals, Kharg Island, and Armored Shield. I don't see too many other maps played in TDM but I think these are the best ones. The only server I play on that has more than 32 players is the Armored Killed TDM server and it has 48. I recommend that you stay away from Death Valley TDM all together. Every single round I have played on that map has had the winning team with half a dozen Recon on the top of a skyscraper picking people off as they spawn.

Thanks guys. I prefer to play with Goodjers, but I can't usualy play on a scheduled night. Pubbies drive me crazy, so that's why I usually lone wolf it.

I guess I need to warm my skills back up soon for Aftermath, right? Apparently my last Battle Report was 2 months ago. Gah.

Yes MannishBoy you should come back. All Goodjers who've played Battlefield 3 on PC should come back for Aftermath. I think we could get a full 32 player team if all the Goodjers on my friends list returned.

I'm planning to pick it back up for Aftermath. Those seem way more like my kind of maps than a lot of the previous stuff.

Count me in too!

WTF, I just logged in and it says I have access to Aftermath on PC?

Doesn't actually let me play though.

My god, since upgrading to win8.. bf3 is SUPER laggy for me.

I'm still running Vista and my ping has gone up from the 60s to the 80s on the servers I like to play. I'm not sure if it's my ISP or BF3 has somehow changed.

On a separate note I too have access to the Aftermath content according to Battlelog. I have a few assignments I can work towards but they are all related to the new content that is still blocked. I wonder if the other assignments will unlock early as well so I can chase those down.

I see that too on assignments.

Popped into the end of a Canals TDM game and went 9-2 with the UMP in my first round back after 2 months. Just trying to see if I can still aim. Felt weird after a lot of Hawken and Mechwarrior in the last couple of weeks. I'm sure my situational awareness on CQ will be crap for awhile, but at least TDM isn't a totally lost cause.

Yikes what possessed you into doing that (upgrading to Win 8)?

It seems like the usual. PS3 gets access early and some of the assignments open up to the rest of us, while we wait for the content to be really released in the following week. I think the same thing happened for AK and CQ.

Blah, had some ugly ugly sessions trying to get the UMP assignment done before it got nerfed. I really don't like it. It's like PKP with slightly better control but horribly small clip. Did it always have maximum damage of 34 though?

The damage buff was around AK time IIRC, and it was much needed. It was worthless before. Now it's pretty good for close to medium range fights.

YES!! Thursday night was fun when taking over a squad server with 16-20 Goodjers. Looking forward to this again with Aftermath. Moto and I have been playing Armored Kill. We pub it up and sometimes get lucky with two other players willing to work as a team, but usually just create our own squad and do our own thing. Still fun. Is the Ventrilo server still up?

Thursday night used to be the highlight of my week. Now I work every Thursday night.

I'm drinking a bottle of champagne and playing Battlefield 3 right now. You should all join me.

Got a PS3 basically to play this with coworkers, kind of scared, after years of CoD, will it be a horrible adjustment

It won't be a HORRIBLE. Yeah they're a bit different but it's not like you're switching to ARMA or something after all. Sure, when you're playing anything but TDM/CQD, you WILL see a huge difference in terms of pacing and playing style, but Battlefield's own pacing is accessible enough on its own.

That said I can't say much about how the console's been doing, and where they are currently at in terms of what content packs and how much of their player population is still playing. On the PC it's divided into pretty much two, people who bought all of it (through Premium) and people who didn't. However, there's enough of both playing at any given time. On the consoles on the other hand, I can't be too sure.

The gunplay in Bf3 IMO is a bit different/superior to COD's or even that of BF2, in that they don't have a recoil system that is uber-simplified and also that BF3 actually has bullet drops instead of the 'point-and-click' adventure style ballistics. Each gun has its own set of unlock trees/progress-tracking for unlocking weapon modifications. Which may mean more work on your part to 'unlock' everything but it also means you get to start operating at full efficiency faster with just your starting set of weapons instead of being stuck waiting to get to a certain rank before it gets good (and starting weapons for most classes are some of the most effective/easiest to use).

If you all get the premium pack it should be fantastic. The four content packs that have been released so far do add a fair share of maps and weapons (they add some new modes, but really aside from CQD in the CQ pack, which is basically smaller conquest they were mostly misses). And two of those content packs, Close Quarters/Aftermath really do feel like they would do well with the console crowd and their style of play (where as Karkand/Armored Kill were love letters to the BF2 fans of the old on the PC).

What's the deal with Aftermath, I'm not seeing any servers with the new maps. Anyone else have any luck?
Edit: Nevermind...it's not out until Tuesday.

You silly west coaster! Move east so we can get our schedules aligned

The 3.8GB update is on Origin now.

Game pushed out several updates. First was 3.5 GB, second was 2.5 GB, and now the third is just under 3 GB. Seems like every time I go to battlelog it tells me to update. Am I wasting bandwidth here or are there really three separate updates?

Oh yeah, here's a tutorial introish video I made when I ran out of content (and started getting frustrated with unusable video footages). Overviews realllly basic stuff.

I've only had one update nad whenever I try to connect to an Aftermath server I get a prompt saying I need to get the expansion pack to play.

Is it actually supposed to allow us in today or is it tomorrow? (yes sometimes they open early but i thought the official day was the 4th)

This is just the content and the other patch stuff. Can't play until tomorrow morning I think.

Played some TDM and CQ this weekend to get my feel for the game back. Probably not smart to just use mostly PDWs. I got the UMP assignment done and played around with the MP5 a bit before the nerf hit with this patch.

UMP is much better now than it used to be, and the MP5 ain't half bad when you get the extended mags.

EDIT: Just tested to see if the patch ran, and it told me my install was corrupt. So I'm checking that.

I got a similar patch on 360 yesterday. I vaguely remember it being under 2GB (but I could be wrong.)

I'm gonna try Aftermath tonight.

Ditto, 1.9Gb it was. Hadn't played in a while so I wasn't sure if it was a general patch or for Aftermath specifically.

I think it was an entirely gen(Aftermath)eral patch.

Hmmmmm. Aftermath maps aren't there. Battlelog lied to me.

Tomorrow.
