The Playstation Vita Catch-All

I'm surprised at the lack of removable battery. I assume this was an engineering decision stemming from back touch, although I'm skeptical if the trade off was worth it. One thing that made travelling with the PSP bearable has been the ability to swap batteries.

Rumor is that it's also to avoid any possibility of a Pandora-like wide-open hack.

For battery life, it's really the screen that's going to do it in.

It will be interesting to watch the rest of the launch in Japan. That's a pretty insane battery life. I'd love to see someone test PSP games on it with all of the networking turned off. If it's still around 3 hours then maybe I'm sticking with my PSP for a while.

I got my PSP second hand so maybe the battery already sucked but I feel like I only get maybe 4 hours of solid playtime out of the battery.

Yeah, 4-5 hours is about the norm on my PSP-2000. I definitely hope battery life will improve in future iterations (the first of which I will probably buy). Carrying a USB charger like this also helps.

Man, I swore to myself that I was through with dedicated portable handhelds, but then this little ditty crops up and changes everything.

MK9 was my Biggest Surprise of 2011 and the idea of having that tidal wave of single-player content all in portable form has got me intrigued.

I can see where I would be frustrated by a 3 hour battery life in the few situations like a very long car or plane ride, but in most of my mobile gaming, a few hours is the max i'm away from a power outlet. I have come to terms with the fact that nothing will ever compare to my DS lite, and its never ending battery. I am extra saddened by the fact that a spare battery is not an easy solution though.

That's the kind of thing that pushes it out to wait and see for me, though. I have tons of PSP games left to play and the PSP is just fine. Also the 3DS is picking up steam and has some games worth playing.

So I've been playing with a Japanese console for one night now. The hardware is solid, attractive, very much PSP "plus". Not a fan of the short range of the sticks and the hard to read but stylish buttons (volume, power, select, ...). Screen is great, as to be expected.

I've only played a bit of Ridge Racer so far so hard to comment on anything else. In those terms the ergonomics are better than with the previous editions despite the added bulk. I'm sure I'll get one once my PSP Slim & Lite dies one day, but with the price they're asking, I'm not in a hurry. Let's see in a year or two.

I decided to pre-order one cause I've had a very good month of freelance work and it does look like a very nice piece of kit. Since I'm always carrying around a backpack with me and am stuck with a BlackBerry as my cell phone (company paid plan), having to carry around a couple of dedicated handhelds is no problem for me. Based on a recent discussion on Weekend Confirmed, I'm not worried about the weakening Japanese sales numbers as that chat explained to me in a very compelling way why the performance in the Japanese market really has no bearing on how it will do here. I may change my mind and cancel the pre-order before launch depending on other things I may hear but at this point, it looks like something I'll enjoy, especially since I have GameAccess which will allow me to rent retail games for it.

After a couple of nights with Uncharted, which is the full experience you know from the PS3, yeah, sold. But not at that price. I will be hanging onto this unit from the office for as long as I can, though.

Anyone excited for the launch? Which games are you guys going to get? I'm only going to pick up Uncharted and wait for Unit 13 on March 6th.

I'm still debating. On the one hand, I really want to play Uncharted, Katamari, and LittleBigPlanet. On the other hand, the longer we wait, the more chance of getting a 2nd revision with better battery life.

I'm a huge Socom fan so Zippers Unit 13 sold me. Uncharted will be pretty so I'm now looking forward to that at launch. It's a bad sign when the big gamers don't seem to care. Hard to swallow the game and memory card prices.

Not really excited anymore. Good games for the 3DS coupled with the high price and low battery life have me waiting as well. Canceled my pre-order. I like Katamari and if that's a "must have" version in the series I'll reconsider. Otherwise, though, I'm waiting as that's the only game I care about aside from playing my old PSP games with perhaps better controls.

Yep, very excited. My PSP got stolen on a trip a few months ago, and I've been missing it ever since. Looking forward to catching up on some PSP RPGs and also picking up Wipeout 2048. I haven't followed any other game discussion enough to know if I'd want other titles right out of the gate.

Wouldn't say I'm very excited, but I can't wait until I have one. Buy.com had a pre-order sale on the 3G a month back, so I figured even if I never used the AT&T plan the slight extra price wouldn't make too much difference. Plus, I'm guarantied goodies like Little Deviants, 4GB card, and a case. The card especially helps with me because I can't in good conscience pay those ridiculous prices. I'm going to wait until a better solution, or third party manufacturer, cuts that price real good.

The only launch titles I'll be putting money down for are digital only ones: Escape Plan (reviews dependent, and hopefully a demo), and Super StarDust Delta. I like the look of Army Corps of Hell, but that'll likely wait for a price drop and/or PSN. I also can't wait to check out Rayman: Origins on an OLED screen. I've always loved the idea of the LBP and Lumines franchises, but they don't click with me at all, LBP exclusively due to the floaty movement.

My most anticipated titles are Gravity Rush, not followed closely by the Persona 4 port.

Is Madden gonna be on this thing at launch? That's all I would use it for.

pre-ordered Wipeout 2048, never played Uncharted or Resistance or Socom so their little brothers don't have any emotional appeal and I should stop spending so much money on games.

Not sure if I'm getting Rayman for PS3 or PSV. Hopefully I will still be playing Twisted Metal...
holy sh**,
I'm going to have a new Twisted Metal and a new Wipeout within weeks of each other.
Am I going to lose my virginity again too?

I didn't even know P4 was being remade for Vita, that's another one I'm interested in. Not a launch title though, too bad.

I find the whole concept of "launch window" frustrating. Gravity Rush is slated for May 29, and the Vita launches in February. That is nowhere near the launch of the system!

Amazon just updated their 3G listing to a Launch Bundle, "Includes: PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi System + 8GB Memory Card + AT&T DataConnect Session Pass + Free PSN Game*"

Strangely, that's a larger data card than their First Edition Bundle is set to include.

The thing that trips me up on this is that I have a 32GB card in my PSP along with a ton of games. This is a great deal. Especially as it's the 3G Vita. But I'd want a 32GB card still.

Amazon has Wipeout 2048 on sale for $30. I'd be preordering that if I was getting a Vita at launch. Much better price than $50 for Uncharted. Ick.

Thanks for that.. my original 3G pre-order was not converting to this launch bundle.. had to cancel and do a new pre-order.. I would have been annoyed if I missed that.

It's worth it though. Full Uncharted experience so far, nine chapters in.

I am very excited, I got into the bestbuy promotion here in canada that gives a copy of uncharted free, So I will be picking up UMVC3 digitally and maybe hot shots as well, after playing mario and mario kart, I am bored of my 3DS right now and Vita can't come soon enough.

Wait, what promo did you get?! I got the pre-order bundle that gives me a free case, memory card and Little Deviants but I still had to order Uncharted separately.

Bestbuy had a promo from january 6th to the 12th where if you preorder the Vita that you get a free copy of uncharted vita.

Oh man, I was on the verge of pre-ordering a Vita, and then I saw this.

There goes my Vita money.

I just heard that there are no tournaments in Wipeout 2048. Does anyone know if this is true?
