The Playstation Vita Catch-All

64GB is ¥20,000 on Amazon so 80 pounds doesn’t sound too bad!

The CFW process wasn’t so hard, easier than PS3 and 3DS which I did around the same time.

80 for pre-owned cards. The one new card sold over the past couple months was close to £150.

Bought one of those adaptors and am looking at https://vita.hacks.guide/get-started now as CFW seems to be the way to go.
Cannot find my Vita PS library online though. There are 2 stores now, one for PS4/5 only, they both have a games library link which only goes to the Ps4/5 library - so I cannot see any of my Vita/PSP games. Can probably see them on the Vita but I do want to store my games on my PC as I would guess access to them after August might be an issue.

I'm sure it's been said a 100 times in this thread, but wouldn't it be great as a sign off and goodbye for the console if Sony just hit a magic button that let us all use any old regular memory card on our Vitas. Ridiculous I know, but can dream.

The problem is that doing so wouldn't be a sign off for Vita. Rather it would revive it as pirate's machine of choice. Imagine the mischief that would be wrought with a San Disk 1TB card...

I'm more disappointed that there isn't going to be a successor to the Vita. It really is a fantastic little machine. And a far better experience, in my view, than gaming on a phone. But the world has moved on.

I guess so. But in my dream they limit it to regular old 128gb cards max. Just enough to put my collection on

I agree the machine is one of my faves and phone gaming doesn't compare at all for sure.

A successor exists in the Switch Lite, and it even uses regular old microSD cards.

It's hard to believe that you won't be able to download existing purchases to PS3s and Vitas in the future. That's a class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

It is tempting, but all our digital games are tied to my son's Switch I think. Nintendo games are cart so there's that.

I'm sure we all agreed to it via multiple legal docs none of us read or would've understood if we read.

For now this link should still work to be able to see legacy content:
https://store.playstation.com/en-us/...

So, after comparing the PSP and Vita stores against Metacritics lists of the best 100 games on each system, I ended up with:

Luftrausers
GTA Chinatown Wars
Spelunky
Guacamelee
Sid Meier's Pirates
Sid Meier's Civilisation 2
The Ratchet & Clank Trilogy
The Sly (Cooper) Trilogy

I feel that I should have bought more titles, but both stores (particularly the Vita's) are very heavily weighted towards 2D side-scrollers and platformers, and Japanese Role Playing Games, with a bit of baseball thrown in.

That said, I'm pleased at the extent to which this has forced me from my comfort zones. None of the games on the list above are in my wheel-house. I think I'll enjoy the variety. I don't think I've tried games like Bastion, Papers Please and Danganronpa with the Vita.

It really shows the extent to which many Western developers abandoned both systems.

I'm not sure if Geometry Wars 3 ever made it to Switch but that's an incredible handheld experience on Vita. Super Stardust is another incredible twin stick shooter. Hatsune Miku Project Diva are great rhythm games but I think the Switch has a pretty good compilation version now.

Don't forget older titles like Killzone: Liberation, too. It never got remastered (turns out Loco Roco did).

Just noticed that the on-device in-store Download List cuts off at mid-June last year. Anything more recent isn't listed.

Question for those who have hacked their vita, can you still use it for remote play to PS4?

Thanks, but when I log onto that and go into games library it brings the up the same library, Ps4/5 games only. I can see my download list on the Vita though, but do not know if the CFW lets you select where to download.
That store does show what I have purchased though and I can go to download from that screen but it is going to take much longer!

TBH not the end of the world, it might get bricked when I try to hack it in any case!!

I've got Killzone: Liberation already. I downloaded it just before the PS Vita games were removed from the PS3 Store a few years ago.

I haven't played it yet. I think the Vita only got 2 first-person-shooters from major franchises during its lifetime: Killzone: Liberation, and; Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified. (The namers of video games do love a colon, don't they?)

I swerved CoD three years ago because of the terrible reviews (rubbish mission structure; rubbish AI, rubbish checkpoint... etc, etc. ad nauseam). I'm continuing to avoid it because its still £44.99 on the PS Store.

£44.99! For a digital copy!! Almost a decade after release!!!

Activision aren't usually so stubborn with their pricing, so I can only assume that they've forgotten that the game is still up and therefore haven't priced it to sell in the waning days of the Vita store.

But I might be wrong. There are a couple of Code: Realize visual novels that I fancied adding to the collection, but they're £32.99 for digital only. Perhaps publishers just don't want to compromise.

The more I investigate, the stranger the Vita's library becomes. As far as I can tell, only one Madden (2013), and 3 FIFAs (2013, 2014, and 2015) were ever released for it.

Vita sales were deep for a few years. The Big in Japan discounts were always good. This past 6 months maybe longer they don't really get many deals that I've noticed. PS4/vita cross buy if in sale maybe.

Liberation is a 3rd person isometric game, similar to the old Crusader titles. Killzone: Mercenary was a FPS, as was Resistance: Burning Skies, if you were looking for that.

I grabbed those for $10 on the US store where they've been on sale from time to time. Unfortunately Vita sales have dropped off in the last year or so as I guess publishers just don't have the bandwidth to manage them.

For me Vita was always first about the Japanese games and second about the smaller indy titles. Now you can get pretty much all the indy titles on Switch but I'm sure there are quite a few Japanese games that will never be ported.

Btw, the Chrome plugin PSDLE is pretty great for seeing your purchased continue in an organised fashion.
- Install PSDLE
- Visit PSN url
- Click on the PSDLE plugin icon to run it.

You can select platforms, enter search terms etc. Very useful.

Of course, you're right. There were two Killzone games on Sony handhelds. I'd completely forgotten about Lliberation, even though I owned a physical copy on the PSP.

I think I bought it, played one level and never went back. At the time, I hated the 2.5D isometric view. But I should have given it more time. It turned out that I really enjoyed the isometric view mission in Nier.

Kinda Funny did their Vita recs, 15 titles to get, 5 by each of the hosts, 5 by chat, some consideration given to PSP/PS1 classics, also not particularly concerned with availability on other platforms.
15 Must Play PlayStation Vita Games - PS I Love You XOXO Ep. 63
The 15 games:

Spoiler:

Persona 4 Golden
Severed
Danganrompa
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP)
Metal Gear Solid 2+3 HD Collection
Muramasa Rebirth
Freedom Wars
Rogue Legacy
Gravity Rush
Valkyria Chronicles 2 (PSP)
Hotline Miami
Tearaway
Patapon 3 (PSP)
VVVVVV
Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

To reiterate and expand on my list:
Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate - my favourite Rogue-lite
Lumines Electronic Symphony - best soundtrack in a Lumines game
Geometry Wars 3 - great way to play this twin stick classic
Super Stardust Delta - ditto
Hatsune Miku Project Diva - best track list of the Vita games
Persona 4 Golden - of course
Trails of Cold Steel 1&2 - love this series but the performance on Vita is a bit rough
Atelier Sophie - The Mysterious Book - My favourite Atelier game.

Some PSP mentions
Final Fantasy Crisis Core
Persona 3 Portable
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker

I think it’s always worth mentioning that the Vita is the best way to play PSP games, bigger/better screen, same pixel ratio.

Nice list. I've played half of it, but only 2 games on Vita (PSTV). Muramasa Rebirth was glorious.

Also wanted to mention that Vita can be your goto Ys machine:
Ys I & II Chronicles (PSP)
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim (PSP)
Ys: The Oath in Felghana (PSP)
Ys VII (PSP)
Ys: Memories of Celceta (Vita)
Ys Origin (Vita)
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Vita)

And if memory serves every Final Fantasy game from 1 to 10.

Everyone had an email about the shutting down?

I'll edit with a quote later but said basically that after the August closing of Vita store will still be able to download old purchases direct to the Vita.

There was a weird bullet point in that paragraph about cross buy vita/PS3 games that will need to download to console want it on before closing... Which read weirdly to me and will quote and query later.

But seems like good news re worry about losing old purchases.

Curse you, Mr GT Chris! I really didn't need to see that list. Another set of votes for 'Rogue Legacy' and 'Tearaway'.

I am going to buy both of those right now, while they're still available.

I don't know how it plays on vita but Hatsune Miku have been playing fairly regularly for a few years on PS4.

So good and one of my favourite games of the past few couple years despite me not being brilliant at it.

It's my comfort game, my got half an hour to spare but don't know what to play game, chuck Hatsune on, it'll be fun.

The email bits I mentioned if any use to anyone who hasn't received...

What about content you already own?
• You will still be able to download your owned PS3, PS Vita, and PSP content, including games and video content.
• You can download your owned content onto your PS3, PS Vita, or PSP by accessing the Download List on the respective device.
• If you have purchased a PS3/PS Vita cross-buy bundle and have only downloaded either the PS3 or PS Vita version, you will need to download the other version prior to the closure of PlayStation™Store on the relevant device.
• Video content that you own can be streamed on PS3, PS4 or PS5 through the My Videos app, or on mobile devices through the PlayStation™Video app.
• You will still be able to re-download and play game titles you have claimed through PlayStation®Plus as long as you remain a member of the service.

and on PS4/Vita cross-buy...

• You will still be able to purchase cross-buy content through PlayStation™Store on the web, PlayStation®App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles and access both the PS4 version and the PS3/PS Vita/PSP versions.

I would love it if the damn PS Download page would let you filter by platform. I hate that when I hit the store on my Vita I see pages of my PS4 games and have to scroll like crazy to find the Vita games.

I find it easier to search for specific content using the store search and just hit the download button. With close to a 1000 items on my download list and no way to sort or filter it, it’s basically useless.

If you need to find out what you actually own (including PS+ content) you can search in Chrome using the plugin I mentioned previously.
