The Playstation Vita Catch-All

Right now the vita has been brought back from retirement as the console I toss in the bag for work. The battery I replaced is working really well. The thing is holding a decent charge.

Also got a second used 2000 coming soon. I hope it is the "right" firmware so I can do some dirt and backup my games/saves.

I’ve done the same thing: currently Disgaea 4, but I’ve still got a pile of excellent games to work through. Not bad for a ‘dead’ platform.

Since it's official death makes me sad that Sony won't take a another stab at this whole sub genre of console. Still hope the hackers give it a long life.

Every time this thread rises I feel the need to dig out my Vita from the drawer.

I'm about due for a Speedball 2 cup run!

I got a 2000 era Japanese Vita. Light blue on the back with white on the front. It is in decent condition. Big old points off for the back touched looked like someone slide the darn thing across the floor several times and dirty to boot. But the front is clean with some deep scratches on the right side.

I've only had the original so holding this one is a trip. It is half the weight of the original. The screen is good. I probably could tell the screens apart side by side with the 1000 but it is probably minimal. Since it is lighter it is nicer to hold and play with the grooves on the back.

The charger being micro USB is so good. I don't need the speciality cable is fantastic.

The start and select buttons being nice and round and easier to hit. The buttons feel on par to the original.

The smooth plastic is a decent finish to it.

You may not need the 2000 but it is a decent slim.

No need for apologies, every time I remember how much I like the Vita.

A micro USB... That sounds sweet. The battery lasts a long time still on my original, but that charging set up takes up half our gaming bits n bobs drawer.

What are the constraints on custom firmware at this time?

2.69 is hackable. 2.7 is suppose to be (the hash/encryption didnt change). One of the main guys says that you can upgrade and soon you can easily downgrade to whatever firmware you want (2.65). So no real constraints and you can literally do what you want.

I'm just waiting for someone to make an easily installable thingy that allows me to put emulators on it. I know you can kind of do it now, but the instructions are worse than the Handbook For The Recently Deceased.

There is a pretty easy looking hack that will be released soon. It looks like go to a website on the vita and poof "Hacked".

PSP is much easier and covers a lot of hardware, fwiw. There’s also the GPD XD Plus as a pure emulator option.

That is EXACTLY what I am hoping for.

Well sure, but I oowwwnnnnn a Vita, which I think will be a wonderful emulation machine in time.

Though I have been eyeing that GPD thingy.

Random things. Teslagrad, Don't Starve :Giant Edition, and Cosmic Heroine (ps4/vita) are free. So yeah free vita games.

In general, the Vita sale is pretty ridiculous right now. Tons of stuff.

A few deals I noticed
Trillion is a dollar
Mary Skeltor is 4
MGS Collection is cheap
Muramasa is 4

What region?

US region. It is part of the "Great Indoors" sale

These aren't showing as free for me. Teslagrad and Cosmic Star Heroine are a few dollars, but Don't Starve isn't even on sale. Are you sure these aren't just games you have through cross buy or PS Plus?

I'm pretty sure I didn't get them through PS+. Curiously I went through the vita store front. I don't think it was because of the used vita because I had another card I put in it?

It wouldn’t be tied to system or memory card. It’s your PS account that you’re logged into when you’re looking at the store.

This one is not free for me. Maybe a price glitch.

Most likely is they were PS+ titles. I "own" them all.
