The Playstation Vita Catch-All

dissposablehero wrote:

That's a good point actually (about the sale) My guess is, it'll be on PS+ for free or a heavily reduced price sometime this year as its probably the most critically acclaimed title on the PS Vita (well it is according to metacritic http://www.metacritic.com/browse/games/score/metascore/all/vita?view=condensed&sort=desc) so I think Sony will want to promote it as much as possible.

I think this is highly unlikely, for a few reasons:

1 - It's not a Sony game
2 - It's brand-spanking new (all non-Sony games that were free on PS+, such as RE5, are at least 3 years old)
3 - Persona games, as mentioned here or in the P4G thread, don't go on sale on PSN very often (though you can find deals on the cart often)

You're right that Sony wants to promote both the game, system, and PS+, but that's not necessarily accomplished by handing out the #1 rated game on the system for free. I think you're much more likely to see more launch titles, like Lumines, come up on PS+.

I guess that it won't be coming for free for a good while, but if it goes 30% off through ps+ i'll probably be picking it up. However, I was just thinking that it'll be loads cheaper loads quicker getting it from a shop in some sale/preowned.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it on sale for sure. All the Persona games on PSP were on sale on PSN at least once in 2012.

I was just thinking about the PSP GTA games, is there an update for the vita or can you map the right analog to the camera, so it plays like it does on the PS3? If not I do hope they re-master the games for the Vita - I know it's not the best to be re-releasing old games, but I wouldn't mind a "GTA HD Collection" or whatever they'll call it. Maybe they'll do a Vita iteration of 5 at some point.

If you hold your finger on the screen while playing a PSP game, you can map functions to the right stick, and the screen.

So I started playing AC:L again, in an attempt to finish games on my Vita. I am at the dreaded Sequence 5. DA DA DUM! Is the mission in the bayou where you have to dart soldiers the only bugged mission? And those that got past it, how did you?

Ah thanks, just like when playing PSOne games too!

Thanks

That's a shame - thanks for pointing it out, it's £11.99 on the PS Store so it would be an expensive let down.

I'll wait and see if they bring out updated versions for the vita, with a proper control scheme. I'm getting a sinking feeling that ill be waiting and seeing allot on the Vita, hopefully Sony and the all the big game developers won't let the Vita customers down.

I *think* that Liberty/Vice City Stories' camera isn't directly controllable, so mapping the D-pad to the right stick won't really do the trick in that particular case. IIRC those games implement a more 3D Mario-esque camera system that moves as it thinks you'd be best served.

Has anyone played God Eater Burst. Watching the trailer makes me want it real bad, but I've beeen let down by trailers.

It looks good, I'll look into it a bit more - the "supposedly" is worrying haha. Just the alleged Bioshock vita game and the alleged FFX HD remake. It seems like not allot of dev's are planning games for the system. Maybe the're waiting the the PS4 so they can have better connectivity between the consoles...?

Alien Breed is coming to PS3/Vita early February. I really enjoyed it on PC, should be a blast on the Vita.

Which Alien Breed is it?

I've learn't more about upcoming Vita games on here than I've found on IGN and Gamespot

http://www.joystiq.com/2013/01/11/or...

I think it may be the original, doesn't really specify.

Ah, I quite like the look of the newer ones - I might give it a whirl, ill find a review in a min.

The quite good PSP mini Velocity is getting the Vita update treatment. Out shortly, too.

That looks pretty cool, but I don't think I'd peg mid- to late-April as out shortly.

Time flies; I promise, young Blind_Evil.

I suppose, but when you play and buy as much as I do, there's a lot of space in there.

Games I'll buy before this comes out: Fire Emblem Awakening, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Devil May Cry, Anarchy Reigns, Skulls of the Shogun, Crysis 3, Metal Gear Rising, and Tomb Raider.

Oh and Soul Sacrifice if it comes out.

Has anyone tried WRC 3 for the Vita?

There's a story behind this question. (BTW I know I'm crazy :P) Today, while I was walking to the shop, I was thinking about this weeks Podcast and someone saying that there's a skill to city building games which got me to thinking about Anno 2070, then Bluebyte who published it and also made Settlers 2 (because that was awesome). Now back in the day I loved Settlers 2 and I got it in a 3 pack along with Civ 2 and Sim City 2000, which got me thinking about another 3 pack for the PC I got at the same time which had Screamer 2, NFS 2 and World Rally Champonship.

Now World Rally Champoinship was my favourite game for a long time (seemed like years, but I was young so who knows) and the main game mode in that was to take all of the stages in the rally championship one after the other and your overall time depicted where you were on the leader boards against the other racers. What was good about the game was that in between every stage you had "20 minutes" to repair your car, so if you crashed allot in a particular stage, then you could only repair a few things then you had to attempt the next stage in what ever state your car was in - which added a certain depth to the game and an incentive to drive "clean". Which is also how it is in real rally races. You see the mechanics frantically ripping the car apart and back together again just to replace one faulty part in the time allotted. I guess in some ways this is the most realistic rally game I've ever played and I've been looking for a similar experience ever since.

So I was wondering if anyone has tried WRC 3 for the Vita and wanna know if its anything like a proper rally game?

If you don't like swiping the screen to punch things,

you're going to love the final boss.

That was just awful (finished it this morning). I think that has pushed me over the edge into not playing through it again (I was considering playing through on the Hard difficulty and to collect the items I has missed during my first play though). I don't care how much of a collector I am.

Spoiler:

And did both of the last two bosses have to be the same thing? Was this a cruel inside joke by the dev team or something?

Persona 4 isn't out here yet, and everyone's been raving about it, so I grabbed Persona 3 Portable while I wait. $50 here because, you know... Australia.

I'm really enjoying it so far though. More games should have jazzy combat music! I'm finding the Persona juggling a bit tricky so far though, I'm sure I'll work it out, but at the moment I'll use up, say, Orpheus to make a better Persona, then feel bad and want him back, so I use the compendium to get him back, and he's level 1 and almost completely useless, heh! Should I just be forgetting about Orpheus at this point and start working with the higher level Personas? Would Orpheus remain useful if I managed to keep him at a higher level?

You're probably best in forgetting about Orpheus and moving on. However, if you really get attached to one like I did with Narcissus you can keep them with you throughout the game. However, they will level slower than other personas that haven't completely surpassed their intended power levels. If you wish to do so, you can "re-register" your current personas in the compendium after you've leveled them up. This overwrites their previous level with the new one. The cost to summon them again will increase, but you don't have to start from their original level.

You may direct further inquiries at the P3 thread.

"Wake Up Club" in less than 24 hours.

WRC3 ?

is that available in US/Canada?

That sounds interesting, but I don't use an alarm clock.

Dunno if your curiosity has been satisfied on this, but I played it for a good long while. It's basically monster hunter gameplay with a post-apocalyptic setting and an *eerily* similar visual style to Digital Devil Saga. If you're getting it on the cheap, and are waiting for other MH games to come out (like me), then I say go for it. If you are not sure if you like that kind of gameplay, maybe check out a proper MH game first. And if you know you don't like them, stay far away.

It is a bit easier than MH, if that means anything. Along with enemies that just aren't as difficult, you have a weapon that is a combination gun/melee weapon, so you don't have to choose a path, and can use both at appropriate times.

Reviews for EDF 2017 Portable are coming in. They seem to be positive. I figured, I haven't played the original, this has four-player online co-op, what the hell?

I'll post thoughts when I can.

50% off Atlus stuff on PSN (EU only) till the end of the month. Persona brand specifically mentioned, but titles not specified.

EDF is awesome, stupid fun.
