NBA Season 2011-2012

Howard + some contact for Tyson Chandler + Amare Stoudemire. Please?

rather trade Melo then Chandler/Amare ;p

the real steal would be keeping everyone and getting Nash to make everything click.

I agree - the Melo trade was so painful to me. I have my doubts that even Nash can make the Knicks click. Which is in part why I prefer they keep Lin - at least he's got years ahead of him.

Yeah, I really really hate the Melo trade. Lin isn't the ultimate solution, but he played well. And it was clear when Melo returned that their chemistry was terrible. Ball-stopping scorers are death to team chemistry. Portland had the same problem at times with Roy. Atlanta could only go as far as Joe Johnson would take them. And the Heat only got over the top when LeBron learned how to be productive without playing ISO offense every possession. I don't get why they traded for Melo and I don't get why they won't just bail on that experiment while he's still worth something.

Incredibly stupid and domineering owner. Jim Dolan is 100% ass-hat.

New Jersey continues its trend of going after players/coaches other teams don't want. I can't believe people are celebrating getting Joe Johnson.

Joe Johnson is comically overpaid, but that's not his fault, and he is a good player. I think the fit in Atlanta was just wrong.

Not to say I think or know it'll be any better with the Nets, but he's not useless. As I said, I think a season with their current roster healthy results in the 5 or 6 seed in the east. I think the team's ownership wants nothing more than to be relevant for their first season in Brooklyn (not New Jersey :P).

Knicks, Suns are in the critical stages of discussions on a sign-and-trade deal that would pay Nash $27M-$30M over 3 years, sources tell Y!

Nash, insert sg here , Melo, Amare, Chandler > The Heat.

not so much if the Heat get Ray Allen but I'm holding out that Jesus wont do that to the Celtic fans.

edit: deal supposedly involves Shumpert which is bad, but considering Lin is restricted 3 years of Nash tutoring him would be amazing.

I don't think Nash can solve their chemistry problems. Unless someone grabs Melo by the shirt, points him at Shawn Marion's stats with and without Nash and tells him to learn to play without the ball.

If Steve Nash cant fix their chemistry problems there isnt a single player in basketball history that can and Melo is doomed to be winless his entire career.

back to the price its palatable but Iman looked like he a great defender.

Assuming its the Knicks and they don't really care about paying the taxes they could have a lineup of:
Chandler, Amare, Melo, Fields (Raptors made an offer), Nash, Jefferies, Novak (FA), Lin (restricted), and I'm pretty sure they would have a midlevel exception left to throw at someone.

Light on rebounds but thats a contender IMO.

Nash would have made a lot more sense when they had D'Antoni coaching right?

nope cause Nash doesn't need a coach. Hes the modern player coach if anything. D'Antoni is highly overrated and so are most push the tempo offensive coaches.

I think the question becomes whether Woodson+Melo can be overcome by Nash. Nash can make great things happen on the court, but could get quite frustrated by Melo ball-hogging and Woodson not minding.

Lookin' like Nash to the Lakers. That sure does make things interesting.

Interesting. Wonder who's next to be figured out?

I dunno. I see an old team with Bynum whos got an old body.

It obviously makes them better but I don't see how they beat a Thunder team who don't choke on themselves.

He was gone after they drafted a guard with the 13th pick and then signed Gordon. I am surprised he went to the Lakers though, thought they really disliked each other. Also I thought it was interesting the Raptors offered him 36 million for 3 years and he picked the Lakers at 25 million for 3 years. So much for wanting to be in Canada!

I don't think him leaving has anything to do with Marshall or Gordon (I'm also pretty sure the Hornets are matching and keeping him). I think he and the organization just kinda knew it was time to move on, and since it's supposed to be a sign and trade they're leaving on very good terms.

He reportedly thinks this is his best chance to both chase a championship and stay relatively close to his kids, who I assume live in AZ with their mother.

Actually, if you read quotes by him today he seems very mixed about going to LA for just that reason. Steve Nash is old school and indeed values rivalries, etc. But I think he loves basketball more than he hates the Lakers.

And he loves winning. Which means don't go to NYC. Unless you're going to Brooklyn, I suppose.

I cannot wait to see what happens the first time Kobe shoots Steve one of his patented sulky death-stares.

Not saying they'll win a championship or what, but I treat Steve Nash like I do Nintendo. Don't count 'em out.

I predict more running, more scoring, less defense and a collapse in the early post season due to old tired legs running more, scoring more and worn out defense.

Well, it is what Jerry Buss wants: a return to showtime. I hate to tell him but showtime doesn't win championships without a 6'9" point guard who is a son of John.

One of my friends who's a Lakers fan is ecstatic.... But it also involves the team not stopping and flipping out Gasol and Bynum.

So yea the mystical make believe potential roster that ends up with Kobe, Nash, Howard and a decent supporting cast that he dreams of is interesting. Its also not going to happen.

I admire Nash for not being that sellout who just goes straight to the Heat for a cut wage dreaming of a title ala Payton, Malone. At the same time tho between the potential playoff team suitors he may of picked the one with the least chance of making the finals.

What makes you so sure they don't get Howard? Serious question, I think Orlando is running out of potential trade partners.

Even without him, if they swap out Gasol for someone that can spread the floor a bit more I think they would at least make the WFC. Or with Gasol, maybe.

Because the NBA will veto it for competitive balance? LOL... I dunno its a possibility but Howards brain seems so scrambled I'm not sure anyone can pull a deal off for him.

Well depends what they could turn Gasol into and if Bynum can stay healthy and stop shooting threes. Its definitely a good first step but honestly they need to keep wheeling and dealing IMO. All I can see is a team swept by Dallas 2 years ago and lost to the Thunder in 5 this year. Nash alone + Gasol/Bynum improving doesn't shore that up for me.

And now Houston has supposedly offered Lin 30+ million?

NY can match or something, but holy crap, that's a lot for a guy that only played 25 games.

But since NY lost Nash... well, they have to have a PG don't they?

They have agreed with Kidd (lol).

Free agency is such a mess.

My oh my. Jason Kidd to be a Knick. How curious.

I remember seeing him play for the Nets. That was when they were good, though. And yet no one cared then either.

Eric Gordon is kind of showing his ass, I think. He's telling people that if the Hornets match his contract offer from the Suns they'll be in the same situation they were with Paul. Obviously, they can just deal with him being disgruntled for the next four years, but that seems like a bad situation. Here's the quote that really bothers me:

Eric Gordon wrote:

They drafted another shooting guard, a combo guard like me, which tells me they have another plan.

That doesn't show a lot of smarts, IMO. A team needs at least three quality guards, and if two of them are combo guards, that's really no problem.
