So one of my employees almost got locked up.

I am guessing that there is an upside to working with this particular evil corporate overlord? Why not just go full indie?

Having worked at a gas station a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I'm assuming the evil corporate overlord Paleo's talking about is the company that provides them with the fuel/fuel pumps. Even independent stations have to deal with those dicks.

We considered going full indie. We weren't married to the idea of going corporate at all, but the cost analysis seemed to indicate this was the best opportunity. The combination of vehicle traffic, asking price, and demographics all indicated that there was significant upside potential in this particular opportunity if we were willing to put in the work. It still looks promising, but we weren't counting on this level of bs from corporate.

I spoke with other franchise owners and they all pretty much tell me that the level of feces flowing downhill has increased significantly since corporate got purchased six months ago (right when we were finalizing our purchase).

Great.

Punk Rock Girl comes in to meet with the board this Sunday. She seemed genuinely excited that I called to let her know that she made the first cut.

I told her that the other members of the board are more conservative than I am. Hopefully she'll take the hint and take the metal out of her face.

When I told her if she was up for graveyard shifts, she said she preferred it because she keeps "vampire hours" and is studying for a degree in computer science. She said that working graveyard would give her a chance to study with few or no distractions.

Frankly, she sounds like a Rhodes Scholar compared with the other asshats you've been dealing with. As far as the face jewelry goes, I can't imagine that anyone would care one way or the other what the cashier looks like.

I think my wife and her brother would care. They're like that. At least in the interview they would.

She does seem to have more on the ball than most. She had to drop out of college temporarily because she had to take care of her sick grandmother, but is back in now and seems serious about getting it done this time.

I'm thinking of asking "what is your favorite Iggy Pop song?" as an interview question.

Can you soften them up beforehand? Or at least review the problems with your other employees so she looks better by comparison? Shouldn't take much, from what you've been writing

Tagged for great justice (and stories). <3

Paleocon:

Highly suggest hitting up dating site insiders, particularly sites like OKCupid. They might have some correlations you could use. For instance, the question "Do you like beer?" for some reason highly correlates with "Will you have sex on the first date?" The answer to one is highly predictive of the same answer in the other, even though the former questions sounds perfectly innocuous.

I had to run off a smack addict who regularly comes to the station to panhandle and "sell" used books. He had throat cancer years ago and smokes cigarettes he bums off of folks through a hole in his neck. The fact that he doesn't have a working voice box prompts the cashiers to call him "whisper".

He offered to sweep the parking lot for a $20 (that he would put in the lotto machine), but I told him "I can't do nothin' for you, man".

Now I have Flava Flave stuck in my head.

If she's like the majority of 2011 punk rock girls (and guys for that matter)..she'll have no idea who that is.

Hell, I'm 35 and have been to countless punk shows, including two Bad Religion shows, and I've never listened to Iggy Pop.

I'm sixteen, and just about everybody I know has heard 'Search and Destroy' at the very least. You guys are outliers

So the question will be "which is your favorite Iggy Pop song..." and she'll say "the one he does with Ida Maria" maybe? Or:

Man, do kids these days even watch Trainspotting? How about Pulp Fiction, because that's what I think of when I hear someone got thrown out of a window, or the phrase "quarter pound." Do we know this girl is a punk, or does she just have a lot of metal in her face like The Girl with the Paleocon Tattoo?

Episode 23: the Girl who Kicked the Squeege bucket

I also saw Trainspotting and Pulp Fiction in the theater. And that Crow movie that had Iggy Pop in it.

I'm more of a "listened to everyone on Fat and Epitaph" kind of punk fan than the kind that delved heavily into the "classics", if you will.

I know Iggy Pop from a DS9 episode... *shrug*

I know him primarily from Crybaby.

He's still just Iggy Pop to me.. but I knew his music first from this:

Haha, I was not including myself in that. The first 3 Stooges records are great.

Rocker girl starts this weekend. I told her to bring her books since it will be boring. She asked if it was okay to bring her laptop so she could play minecraft. I told her that as long as crap got done and stuff didn't go missing I didn't care what she did.

I think I love this girl. If she shows you she's got the responsibility to handle it and she's got wireless available, you could invite her to hook up with the multi-player server here. We're going to do a world reset with the next release, so she'll have a clean slate to start with.

A punk rock comp. sci. girl who plays Minecraft? You're trying to get Goodjers to come ask her out, aren't you?

Dude, if I get stationed in Bethesda, I'm totally coming to you for an introduction.

Fedaykin we might have very similar taste in punk music. I'm 25 and I've been going to Bad Religion shows since I was 15. Although I don't really care for going to shows anymore. Too many people seem to only go to cause trouble and potentially hurt someone.

As far as Iggy goes, I remember him mostly from his part on the Nickelodeon show Pete & Pete. Maybe your new employee knows him from the show too.

Paleocon, from what others have been posting about this girl you she may have problems even trying to open her books with all the guys that will be hanging around.

Paleo, pics plz.

She failed the iggy pop question. Turns out she wasn't punk at all. Her face metal and pink hair threw me off but it turns out she's more Goth than punk. Bauhaus and the damned.
