So one of my employees almost got locked up.

Seriously. This is where my tax dollars are going? I'd rather have them going to better madrassess in Baltimore.

Fixed per Allah's will.

I think there's some confusion here between "street art" graffiti and "tagging." Tagging isn't really anything more than the fairly quick application of a gang symbol, marking the territory as owned by that gang. The first group is stuff like Banksy's stencils. The second group--well, you can probably just GIS for a gang name + "tag" to find some. It's usually just one color, usually 2-4 letters or a symbol.

If Telemundo has taught me anything, it's that guys in soap operas get to make out with almost inhumanly hot women. I swear there's a farm somewhere in South America where they're breeding these women.

A friend of mine owns a business that got tagged a lot. He invited a couple of the better known and more talented guys to do a mural. It stayed relatively unmolested for years. This was Portland Maine, not Baltimore, but might be worth considering.

A lady did this exact thing in Toronto. She actually hired a local graffiti artist to do a mural on her wall. Everybody apparently loved it and the tagging stopped.

Then she got a ticket from the city for not keeping her property clean of graffiti. :P

Yeah, NYC you see this alot, but then again graffiti was basically invented here so there is a different level of tolerance for it in particular neighborhoods. I when I say 'graffiti' I mean stuff like this:

IMAGE(http://alexcam.paris.free.fr/images/G1_NY_Wall%20of%20Fame.JPG)

not crap like this:

Unfortunately, most folks don't know or care to know the difference and condemn it all. Of course, this has no bearing on individual property owner's tastes or local regulations.

I'll admit to bring the sort to come and tag over the gang tag just to piss them off

I just got into this debate on another forum a little while ago.

I personally have absolutely no tolerance for anybody who marks another person's property without their permission. I recognize that some of these people are very talented and have a lot of self-expression to do. That doesn't change anything.

Most cities and towns have plenty of business owners who are willing to let you put some art onto a structure, so there isn't any valid reason (as far as I'm concerned) to force a private business owner to spend his own time and money cleaning somebody else's mess up.

Well you generally give us weapons and you can't so we pay for our own food.

Keeping kosher kitchens for diverse populations like military, work place etc is very important in Israel . It's more like an equal opportunity thing .I am not sure if the military recruit people with Coeliac( gluten can kill them) for that reason . You also have to keep separate dishes and all kind of kitchen equipment for dairy and meat .In order to clean a "contaminated" kitchen equipment it has to be put in fire(like a blow torch) .We recently investigated the nearest religious person at work (we aren't all secular).

Kosher rules aren't very hard to keep and it's a common curtsy to give people stuff they can eat (feeding people is a common Jewish custom ). Jewish Kosher food can be eaten by Muslims too AFIK. If you are ever in Israel and go to a hotel that keep kosher (99%) I highly recommend you don't eat lunch at the hotel on Saturday because cooking is not allowed from Friday night to Saturday evening and dinner's quality is also questionable( Cholent at lunch though) .

PS something really unusual just happened as I was writing this 11:19~ am and we hear a raising and falling siren ... a minute later we were by the bomb shelter with my wife holding my daughter in her hands. But it landed near Ashdod(they are used to rockets) .Well at least we did the right thing(the neighbors didn't come though)... Nothing on the news yet.

You guys be safe, Niseg.

This.

Our town actually has a designated "wall" down by the skateboarding park where people can do all the street art they like. I've seen some gorgeous work down there over the years.

Tagging, in and of itself, has nothing to do with gangs. Just because gangs write tags doesn't mean all tags are gang related.

Also the designated areas referenced in this thread are known as "legal walls" and they're common in most cities.

I couldn't care less if they are the sweetest people in the world. They are still vandalizing my property. Whatever their needs for expression may be, they still have no more right to vandalize private property than I have to tattoo "Bitch Boy" on their foreheads.

No doubt. I'm not defending any specific actions, just clearing up a misconception in the thread.

Edit: Ah, I see why you thought that was directed at you. I was actually responding more to wordsmythe's post. I confess: I skimmed.

No problem. It's been a rough day. Between the taggers (who were back btw), the smack fiend shooting up in my bathroom, and the incompetent folks who insist that one of my pumps was broken (they apparently don't know how to lift a handle), I've run pretty much clean out of patience.

Oh, and add to that the fact that the local crackheads have taken to lying about having lost money in the vacuum machines.

Why did I get into this business again?

I think I need to start writing an online journal about the whole experience.

edit: I think the worst part is the fact that everyone seems to want me to be the person who bears bad news to everyone else.

If someone needs fired, get me to do it. If someone needs to be told we're keeping $20 from their paycheck because they were short three days in a row, get me to do it. If someone needs to tell a vendor that we're going with their competition, get me to do it. If someone needs to tell the contractor that we changed our mind for the fifth time in the middle of a project, tell me to do it.

I feel like the middle ball in a freaking Newton's Cradle.

A wonderful idea. Unfortunately, not likely to be approved by corporate.

They make (or at least used to make) stinkballs for paintball guns. They were supposedly so strong that they could make you vomit.

Cross that with that project from YouTube a year or two ago where it could sense somebody and automatically fire a paintball gun at them, and I think you have a winner for anti-graffiti measures! Non-lethal but very firm in its statement!

No, just kidding, I know that would be totally illegal. You know, just like tagging a building and costing the owner hundreds in damage each time.

Welcome to management!

Keep the stories coming, Paleo. It's fascinating stuff.

Is it possible to make it so that the clerk has to turn on the vacuum? Or alternatively make it so that the clerks can give a "free" vacuum. That way the crackhead gets at best a free vacuum and not cash.

My thoughts exactly. Go out and plug some quarters into the vacuum for them rather than give them change.

Ugh. Changed air machine vendors and the old vendor refuses to remove his machines. My brother in law wants to rip them up and toss them in the trash. I barely convinced him that we need to follow a process to remove them legally.

Subscribing to the thread so that I'll eventually get listed in the 'Thank Yous' section of the upcoming book.

Also for MOHAWKS!

I shoot the double when I can, but I'm actually really starting to appreciate the properly executed single. It took me a while to get it, but my buddy showed me the key to making it work is all in turning your neck into the body and spiraling 90 degrees to the remaining leg. After that, it was like waving a magic wand. It also makes it much more difficult to defend against since you can't just sprawl out.
