WoW 5.0 - Mists of Pandaria

Wow, the Panda starting area is cool but a total clusterfrag at volume. The third or fourth quest step you do has you clicking on one tiny thing on one tiny statue. Guess what happens when 50-100 people are trying to do it at the same time?

EDIT: After playing with the panda model for a while, it's confirmed. Going to panda-fy my priest after the expo drops. Such a cool character model.

Man, I hope I get in soon. I'm pretty 'meh' on WoW in general, but every new expansion has me really excited. Hopefully, since I signed up for the year contract, I will get an email soon!

Over the course of the last few days they've ramped up to sending something like 300,000 invites. So I imagine you'll get yours soon.

With the way this is going, MoP will definitely be released within the next few months. I wonder if they will try to follow up with an expansion next year just to keep momentum or if they will back off for a year.

WoW expansions have come out about 24 months apart. Catacylsm's release was Dec. 2010, with closed beta starting in June 2010.

I think I saw somewhere a while back that Blizzard was shooting for June 2012 for Panda. Now I'm thinking September/October or thereabouts. Which would be fine with me. I'm still finding a lot to do with lots of different toons these days.

Would they really release an expansion during summer hiatus?

Let's see ...

Original WoW: November 2004 (!)
BC: January 2007
Wrath: November 2008
Cataclysm: December 2010

Based on past history and the fact that Blizzard is only now at closed beta, I'd say a summer release date is not probable. I'd put my money on Sept.-Oct.

Given that Diablo is May and that HotS is likely Oct/Nov, I think we're more likely to see MoP in early 2013, to be honest.

There was about a year between the launch of Icecrown Citadel and the release of Cataclysm, but Blizzard added in Ruby Sanctum to help placate people in the space between. There's going to be no new content between Dragon Soul, which came out in November, and Pandaria. Also, Cataclysm came out roughly five months after the launch of its beta. Adding to those, the Annual Pass started in October, and I think Blizzard is savvy enough to time it to try to use Pandaria's release to retain all the players who signed up for it but have since lost interest and expect to cancel as soon as it expires.

I think if Blizzard's pushing anything back to 2013, it's going to be Heart of the Swarm (again), especially given how little information they've actually released about it so far.

Considering the game is already in closed beta with hundreds of thousands of players playing with more to come and Blizzard's desire to reinvigorate the game, there is no way they would wait that long to release it. Hear me now! I am calling for a July release.

Asian Dragon Mount Go Now!

Isn't that just the existing Heart of the Aspects mount with some different coloured skins?

Agreed. I think Activision is going to want a WoW x-pac on their 2012 balance sheet. I'd be stunned if corporate allowed this game to drift that far out on the schedule.

You heard it here first: Zane is an optimist.

Just got my beta invite overnight. Looking forward to seeing the new shiny.

I just tried to log in. Complete mayhem, couldn't even click on the first questgiver because of the sheer amount of panda fur around the guy. Craziness.

FTFY.

I got in... I thought the monk wasnt going to have an autoattack?

Yes, I was surprised by that too. Loving the starting area, it's beautiful. Otherwise, it's more of the same, which may or may not be good, depending on what you are looking for.

Yeah, they mentioned off-hand a week or two ago that they changed that, felt it didn't feel fun. I don't miss it in SWToR, so I'm not sure what they mean, but it's probably better to be consistent in that point anyway.

The only real issues I've seen due to the sheer pandamosity was an early quest where you have to burn a particular scroll and a later quest where an item drops off a particular mini-boss mob (who dies in a half-second due to the number of pandas attacking him). Aside from the fights over those quest targets, and the occasional hard to click on questgiver because folks don't stand back, it has actually surprised me with how easy it is to complete the quests with 20-30 folks doing any given one at once.

Reap and I got some time in last night with the Monks in the first dungeon. He seemed positive on the Brewmaster's tanking but I am OVER THE MOON on the Mistweaver.

It's nothing like the other healing classes. I don't even care that they're going to nerf him into the ground. Come MoP I am going to do what I've never done before: I'm going to level the new hotness to be my main. Love love love this guy.

What exactly do you like about it? I was thinking rolling a new healer but there doesn't seem to be much accurate info about the Mistweaver yet.

Well, I played it. So I liked the mechanics firsthand. Technical rundown is here.

Experientially, everything about the monk is geared towards moving and seeing the battlefield for what it is. Instead of just playing the UI. Don't get me wrong, I like HealBot Whack-a-Mole. I like my priest a lot. But this feels fresh and delicious. Enough so that I want to take the plunge and do something crazy/new.

I'm looking forward to the Monk as both a tank and DPS. It currently feels "right" in that the game tells you everything you need to know and it's up to you to use the abilities as you see fit.

And don't let Hack's raving about the healer fool you. He still managed to kill me many, many times.

Yesterday's patch broke the beta... cant do any gathering quests and since they do phasing now you cant move forward until they're fixed.

Yes, but that's because I'm a terrible player.

Monk Challenge Armor. Two words: Keg Pauldrons.

Well it's been a little over two weeks and I still haven't been able to log in. I guess the login issues are more widespread. Is anyone else affected?

The servers have been up and down like a [insert inappropriate prostitute comment here]. It's difficult to get onto service depending on the hour, and they've let in like another 500,000 people in the last week.

Have they fixed collection quests yet? Until they do progression is limited.

I don't believe so, no.
