Rocksmith Catch All

Glad it's due to come to the UK. I hope it isn't too expensive, though.

Are you using alternate picking?

not well

My attempt (15,000 points) playing 'Higher Ground' makes me laugh...

The following pattern kills me.

open low E
open low E
low E, 3rd fret
low E, 3rd fret
low E, 3rd fret
low E, 5th fret
low E, 5th fret
low E, 5th fret
repeat.

I just can't play it fast enough! I can't wait until I can because little things like that feel like major progress at this point.

I have a lot of trouble with that, too. I definitely need to work on increasing speed in my alternate picking, it's one of my weaknesses. For some reason the quick tempo of that song gives me fits - I start playing the riff, and within 2-3 passes my arm starts to seize up, all the muscles in my hand and wrist clench tight, and I'm done.

I've also noticed that the game will let you be ever so slightly out of tune, without requiring you to re-tune. I've started keeping my regular guitar tuner handy and checking it every so often.

Do any of you have an idea on how fun this game would be if you're already a solid guitarist? It sounds awesome but I'm curious how much more enjoyment I would get over just downloading tabs off the internet.

I saw this in the store today, at 110 dollars... Wondering if it's worth it? I already know how to play, but I love Rock Band and all that.

I've not heard a thing about this game, so is it good, bad? The scores are all over the place.

I picked this up on Saturday and already probably put more time on it than I have on RB3 Pro guitar. For a capable guitarist it's more a jam track with feedback. What I like about it is I'm playing a real guitar. The RB3 guitar just barely fits that description and is still a controller when it comes to the game. With Rocksmith you're literally playing the part, not just triggering a pre-recorded track. This really sunk in after one of my first songs as it goes into replay and it was playing my pre-song noodling that it had recorded. This also means you get real guitar nuances like bends, vibrato, and palm muting that you can't do in RB3. Rock Band feels like a game with the trappings of a guitar trainer whereas Rocksmith feels like a guitar trainer with some gamey aspects to hit that positive reinforcement nerve center.

For perspective, I'm a moderately proficient guitarist. This really fills a hole for me as I've always spent a lot more time on chords and training exercises than I have actually working up songs.

Question: how long is the cable? Really interested, but don't want to stand five feet in front of my 55" television. Or is it an adapter for a regular 1/4" cable?

Then you're going to need a lot more pictures.

I think the amp and effect pedal modeling is worth the price alone. You unlock various amps and pedals during the game, and there is a free play mode where you can mix and match different combos to create any sound you want. I could spend literally dozens of hours just with this.

If you're not using it to learn to play guitar, you'd be using it as a backup band while you play 50+ different songs with real-time tablature that scrolls through the song as you play. I'd say I'm in a similar boat with LiquidMantis - I'm moderately proficient at guitar, and I'm having a blast with it. If you enjoy playing guitar, I cannot see how you would not have fun with Rocksmith.

That would've been cool. It'd an easy conversion though. The cable is almost 12' and features an old style Xbox breakaway connecter on the USB side of the A/D converter.

I have read of people using a female connector and a regular guitar cable to lengthen the Real Tone cable.

So who else is playing on 360? I need some leaderboard action.

I am, but you won't be getting any competition from me, I'm a total newbie learner.

I finally scored over 70,000 on a song!!! I scored just over 70,000 on Next Girl by the Black Keys. Oh yeah, and I bought their album...

I am a hair under 70,000 on 'I can't get no satisfaction'. Making solid progress. I am about ready to level up my rank.

Motivation is still very high. Hating that I have a 3 day work trip. Can't wait to get back and play.

I finally hit the wall last night playing (I think) the Titus Andronicus song "A More Perfect Union". Midway through the song, it went into this long noodly lick way up around the 12th fret, and my fingers went "yeah, not happening". I had to just sit there and watch dejectedly until it realized my failure and scaled things back for me. Up until that point I was managing to qualify all my songs on the first time through.

Has anyone performed a song at the "Master" level? I've leveled up at least one song (I think one of the Black Keys' songs) to Master level but I haven't performed it yet. By memory? No note chart? Yikes.

Does this work with any electric guitar? I'm wondering if it still works with something like the ovations acoustic/electric ones.

Anything with a pickup. With an acoustic/electric you might want to get one of those silencing inserts though, although I guess that might not be a possibility depending on the Ovation.

Sat down last night and after working on slaughtering some ducks for a while, moved over to the Shifting challenge. My last attempt had left me not even close to the bronze medal score, this attempt, blew right past the gold medal score. Was a pretty great feeling to know that this must actually be working!

Quick question! Is there anything about the game that would make me want to get it on the 360 vs say the PS3. I still have one of the old 360's so it's loud, and if there are no online functions that would make me want my friends list or anything like that, I may just buy the PS3 version.

Unless there are some tech issues I don't know about, the PS3 should be just as good. This isn't something where you should be worrying much about leaderboards or online functionality, so whichever system fits the bill for you should be fine. I'm thinking about picking it up again for the PC when that comes out.

Leaderboards seem limited to just the games. I haven't found them for songs. So that just makes it a matter of achievements.

Really digging it. We talk about it a ton on the podcast this week.

As for higher ground -- this is like the only song I already knew how to play. If you're using a thin pick (or playign it on an acoustic with fat brass strings) it can be hard to get the "thumpadathumpadathump" on the E string right. Thicker picks make it much easier.

Just picked this up... owee says the much older and less limber fret hand.

Tagging in the hopes I can pull out my old Stratocaster someday soon.

I AM DISAPPOINT.

I think they are litigation with a band over there that has the trademark to Rocksmith and won't let them use it.

I doubt that's got much to do with it, given that Rock Band took about 6 months to release in the EU after it came out in Ameri-canada (admittedly Rocksmith has less plastic instruments to be manufactured/shipped for its release).

I need this game, you bastards! And I don't think I'm due a US trip any time soon so I could pick up the PS3 version.

This is the game I've been looking after Rock Band made me pick up a real guitar and I've been bad at practicing alone.

Noticed there's a little bit of DLC out:
"Freebird” by Lynyrd Skynyrd
“Bodysnatchers” by Radiohead (both available to pre-order customers)
"Tighten Up” by The Black Keys.

On Nov 15:
Dubbed the “Rock Hits 1970′s Pack,” it includes
“Smoke On The Water” by Deep Purple
“More Than A Feeling” by Boston
“Jessica” by The Allman Brothers Band.

240 points or $2.99 each

Like -- all seven and a half minutes? That would be pretty awesome.

Dude, I spent months learning to play Jessica when I saw it on one of the Guitar Hero games.... Def going to buy that.

This pack right here? ALL FULL OF WIN.

I'm really loving Rocksmith.

I hope everyone who has the game buys this, because I'd really like them to release a lot of DLC.

I don't know if the "Harmonix" era is over, but for me it might be...
