I'm admittedly a complete neophyte at guitars. During lockdown last year, I decided to try out RS2014 for the first time in a few years. The in-game tuner told me to play the "top" string, so I plucked the high-E, and it told me to tighten. So I did, many times. Then I learned how to re-string a guitar.

I have a feeling the Merphle Method of Guitar Tuning isn't likely to catch on as quickly as the video card method.

Oof!
Yeah, the display being upside down relative to convention is pretty confusing.
I didn't get the Beta invite I applied for, but mrlogical had one that he threw my way.
It's nice to be back, but I'm playing independently a lot more now than when I was playing 2014 and Rocksmith feels more like an entirely different skill than actually playing guitar now. I'm going to keep at it, but I feel like I may go more for skills lessons than learning songs through the software this time.
Song selection is especially weak if one wants to play the blues which is my direction right now, but I'm hoping it expands over time. Also some songs don't have both tracks yet, a few I've tried have no rhythm, only lead.
I think I might try this.
So it's just Rocksmith but now you get to pay for it every month?
Who knew Goofy Goober Rockers from Spongebob would be epic
I agree about the line missing lines being an issue. I'm assuming they did that to make the later notes easier to read? Still I think there most be a happy medium between the 2. Maybe an even more transparent line than RS14 or some other low profile marker that stands out more than what they are showing in RS+.
Anyway, if anybody else was wondering how this differs from RS14, someone was nice enough to put together a list on Reddit.
https://www.reddit.com/r/rocksmith/c...
Also, there is a nice list of the songs currently available at the bottom of this page.

No worries, "I write the songs" by Barry Manilow is on the list already.
Oh man that song list is brutal. This is definitely the case of quantity or quality. You can tell they really wanted to post a huge number of available songs to push the subscriptions.
I don't see this thing surviving very long unless they start adding some more popular songs/bands.
My biggest disappointment with the song list is that a BUNCH of DLC from RS14 is no longer available.
I wish they would have found a happy medium between quantity/quality. I saw someone posted there are 102 Wiggles songs. Really?
Maybe instead of 5000 songs, most of which are obscure bands and b-sides, maybe they went with 500 songs. 100-200 popular songs, 300 more obscure.
Yeah, that's a disappointing selection. I'll stick with 2014, thanks.
I'm curious to know if anyone is trying Rocksmith Plus and if so how you're finding it.
I'm not too bothered by the quality of the library (even though it is definitely poorer than 2014's). There's enough quantity there that it's reasonably easy to find stuff that's fun to play. But I do find that something about it just doesn't feel as good as 2014. I'm not sure if it's something different about the note highway or note detection, or if the sheer quantity of songs means that there is less care and attention going into the transcriptions. It also really needs better tools for organising your saved songs.
At least they are still actively developing it and refining features, not just fixing bugs so I have some hope that it will improve in the future.
yea there's not enough stuff i'm interested in learning to play with the new library, and still very upset they didn't bring things over... I tried for 3 months and just canceled the subscription
Well this was unexpected...
That's a nice feature but not one I would use. I've actually gone back to Rocksmith 2014. Despite the large catalog for Plus, 2014 still has more songs I actually want to play and I really don't like the interface for Plus.
Oh hey I didn't know this thread existed! I'm a huge user of 2014 (somehow now over 500 hours on it) and haven't tried Plus at all. I actually didn't even know Plus had been released. Rocksmith has made me a far better guitar player than I would have been otherwise. I'm still not great, but I have a lot of fun at least.
Have y'all heard of CustomsForge? It's a fairly good sized community putting together tons of songs, and it's really what has kept me going on Rocksmith for all those hours. Song quality is up and down, but generally very good. It's been the only place I can get the more obscure heavy metal stuff to play too.
Huge fan of CustomsForge. I have an additional 20-30 songs that i picked up from them.
I wonder if customsforge is going to get a bunch of new songs now that RS2014 and DLC is dead.

Last I read they were not open to allowing CDLC of delisted songs.
I just gave the piano beta a quick shot. I tried learning guitar via rocksmith before I realized I just didn't have the hands for it. So wound up learning a bit of piano on my own via synthesia.
I liked the music selection although the UI leaves something to desire. I started a few very hard songs not realizing it. Also if I'm quitting a song midway, don't try to hype me up and show me my score. It was just one note.
Edit - Too early for in depth opinions. Removed my thoughts. Feels like I missing stuff in options and other places.
Currently synthesia seems like a better way to learn, but the songs available in rocksmith are just way more interesting. I'll have to tinker with it more.
Hey all, I'm trying for my 300th time to learn guitar.
I own Rocksmith 2014, is that still going? Not really interested in the monthly subscription because I'll probably bail at some point.
AFAIK, if you own RS2014, you can still play it and all DLC you already own. You cannot buy the game not any more DLC as it has been de-listed.
You can definitely keep playing it! I load up Rocksmith 2014 all the time to play.
I'm still seeing all the DLC available in Steam, so you can still get songs there too. They aren't releasing any new ones, but the old ones are all still there. And there's always CustomsForge.
It seems that they are delisting the DLC as time goes on, so I was wrong about that in my post.
For example, I saw on Reddit/The Riff Repeater that the Alice in Chains 5 pack was going away on 11/12. Source
This is interesting, and unexpected
