Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

So... why was that dude wearing a bathrobe the whole time?

*shrug*

Because it's Cheeto and that's his Hugh Hefner robe. That's really the best I can do in terms of an explanation.

He's unique. Like a snowflake.

Yes, I totally went to bed when I got home and forgot to post the link to the photo albums where everyone can share their PenguinCon pictures.

The best part about this place is that you don't have to sign up to add your own photos. Just upload them, and you're done.

I finished uploading my photos. They're all listed as "Unnamed" for some reason. Oh, and this site actually kinda sucks because there's a monthly upload limit. So, feel free to add photos to the photo site of your choice and post links here.

There were SO many pictures that Lupus took that I wish were mine. Excellent work, man!

WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND!!!

Awesome staff.
Awesome attendees.
Great games, boos and, food!

Can't wait till next year.

Lars should also be in consideration given that he won the fighting game tournament

Lars was the victor in the Mortal Kombat portion of the QCDP. Thin_J won the QCDP overall.

Well, I didn't want to bring this up, but Thin_J totally cheated in the finals. He kept hitting my character with kicks and punchs. Also, he's a jerk. Please factor this into your voting. Thank you all for your consideration.

Math is here.

For the people interested in Dawn of War 2, I proposed a newb-friendly tournament here: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/1...

Enabled!

So this weekend was awesome. Seriously, <3 everybody that was involved in getting this thing going and running it and giving me an excuse to take off work and go play games and hang out for a weekend. Mike, Brian, Toph, Bill, all you guys. I know I'm missing some names there but really. You guys rule.

And to all the people I talked to or gamed with at one point or another over the weekend, Carrotpanic, Alan, Nick, Eric, Lupus, DrDoak, Dave, Luggage, Fedora, Gunner, Rees, Lars, Drew (thanks for the invite to the local thing, hope I can make it), tundra, Hox, Eric, Strangeblades, Lasher, and I know I'm forgetting people right now, but seriously it was great to put faces with forum tags and icons and actually get to know people a little more than maybe I manage to over the internet, and even better to meet some people I don't think I've ever even talked to on the forums or in games before.

Apologies to those whose real first names I can't remember. I was trying to keep up with all the name/forum tag pairings and it's sort of piecemeal. This goes double for carrotpanic, who I must have talked to more than any other single person all weekend and yet I still somehow can't make my brain bring up your first name.

All in all though, seriously great weekend. Hoping I can make it to the next one too

*And bonus points to Boogle for not murdering me when my phone alarm went off this morning and I took entirely too long to get up and shut the high pitched little f*cker off.

Man, I'm going to have to totally think about this, not do it and then regret not doing it again next year.

Who are you? You weren't at Penguincon, that's for sure.

Well, I did briefly think about going this year, didn't and am regretting it now that I have seen the photos. So it'd be a repeat of this year.

I see TigerBill met his evil twin in red.

By the way, at what time did Oily finally get up on Sunday? Was he mostly okay or completely ravaged?

It was close to noon when he showed up upstairs. He looked functional, but I doubt that's how he felt.

It wasn't horribly long after noon, and it was bad enough that he forbade Strangeblades to take a picture of him. He was still mostly functional, though.

Edit: What Mike said.

Ahahahahaha, yeah. I forgot about that =)

I'm ok. I lived. I felt like crap all day yesterday but I'm just tired today, so it's cool.

I'd like to mention that drunk Brian invited drunk mystery people up from a wedding on Saturday night...who then proceeded to drink opened beers, swill from liquor bottles, generally be confused about what kind of dork paradise they wandered into, and talk sh*t about how they had one friend who was "the best at first person shooters" to Dave and I.

That's not getting nearly enough coverage in this thread.

Oh come on, that was hilarious. The ones I talked to were really fun and they didn't stay very long.

Also, I heard second hand that they went into the hot tub while wearing their suits around 6:30 AM Sunday.

I didn't mean that to come across completely negatively :). Dave and I had fun messing with that drunk dude's head. We told him that Dave was a sponsored pro gamer. Tried to get the guy to ask for an autograph, but that offended him for some reason.

Yes, they were an interesting crew. Apparently they also enjoyed swimming fully dressed in the suits they wore to the wedding, according to folks who had a view of the pool area.

I was witness to that, yes. It was only one of the guys, but he spent a little time in the hot tub before diving into the pool. Somehow, he had the wherewithal to take off his shoes before getting into a hot tub with a shirt and tie.

*shrug*

Their arrival saved Michelle from being the loudest drunk at PenCon.

For those wondering, I was headed up from the hotel bar around 12:30 Saturday night and some dude about my age in a suit waved to me from one of the glassed in conference rooms. He asked me my name and offered me a Milwaukee's Best Ice.

I took one look around the room to see that everyone was in their mid-20s, took a look at the beer and asked, "is this all you guys have to drink? Come with me."

Thus, drunken wedding goers.

As one of the few people to go to bed at a reasonable time, I can confirm that they did this very loudly.

I was witness to the slurred speech laden "I have a friend that's better than you at shooters" conversation. It was hysterical.

This is why you are the best, Oily.

I was hoping to see the return of the Wheel of Dicks, but alas. Hopefully next year I'll have the funds to make it up there and 'Darken' your doorstep a bit!

GET IT? HE'S BLACK.

You were missed, Bent.

Just in case there was some confusion, this is my ringtone...

I may have to change mine to this as well.

I was going to post a list of Epic Quotes of PenguinCon 2011 but I can't remember many of them, except "living vicariously through her va****" and "Now we need to change your forum name to Safari Hat McQuaid". I don't even have the excuse of being so drunk that I forgot them. Next year maybe I'll bring a notepad around with me so I can write them all down so everyone else can remember them later.

Like Thin_J said, it was nice to meet everyone and I apologize for remembering absolutely nobody's name. Also I apologize for just using Blanka in Street Fighter because he was the only one who I remembered how to do anything with, although I don't feel too bad because at least I did lose in the final to someone who knew how to play (Thin_J, who seemingly knows how to play everything), so that's something. I don't apologize at all for my actions in Eternal Champions, though, since nobody knew what the heck they were doing. Big props to Oily and NSMike for setting that (and everything else) up, though.
