Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

Mono, you and the Mrs. were definitely missed at this event. Still, apple butter. :)

We will plan to go to any we can that don't conflict with family events... (apparently Mrs. Mono doesn't want to explain to her mother that we couldn't make it to family event because we decided it would be better to go play games with people I met on the internet... go figure, I tried ) We have also reserved our room for PAX East for the 3rd year in a row and look forward to playing some fun games there with goodjers again.

I took plenty of amateurish photos that I'm sure would've been eclipsed by the moments you would've been able to capture. So, you can see what you missed, and perhaps present them as arguments for coming next year. Most likely not, though.

I haven't been reading this thread since I dropped. I just want to say that I am hoping you all are having a great time! Look forward to coming next year.

I'm looking forward to you driving me.

Hey all, had to leave early tonight but wanted to say that I had a fantastic time at PenguinCon and meeting everyone I did. To Oily, NSMike, TigerBill, Toph and all of the people organizing this (sorry, can't find my booklet) you guys put on an absolutely epic event. Great times.

It was great to meet you all! I decided not to wait till tomorrow to register on the site. Look forward to playing more games soon! Have a safe trip home, everyone.

The best part was definitely meeting all the internet people and putting faces to their names.
Came with beer, sampled awesome homebrewed beer*, won beer in the raffle and beer kept me up last night, so that I only got 4.5h of sleep before driving back to upstate NY.
It being the filthy enablird's home turf, of course I got real life enabled on LOL, DOW2 and SF4. finally had a chance to play some L4D2 and cannonfoddered the heck out of the tournaments. Didn't get into any board games, but spectated 1 or 2. If I had friends, Ravenloft would definitely be one to get.

All in all a great event. Thank you, PenCon team!

PS: Oily, when can I start giving you my money for next year?

*That black one will haunt my dreams.

Edit: I am herby starting a petition to have FedoraMcQuaid renamed to "SafarihatMcQuaid" at least temporarily. All in favor say "ay".

HUGE thanks to DrDoak (a real doctor) for running Twilight Imperium last night. Great fun.

What ended up happening? Did the Larzzarian Empire take over? Did Hox conquest the universe? Did Keldar mount an epic comeback? Did the sun rise and everyone decided to go play L4D instead?

Thanks to everyone especially the staff. It was great fun. I'm a bit tired but well worth it. I really enjoyed meeting new folks, putting faces to names on the site and seeing people in person that I spend so many hours with as a voice. Job well done and can't wait til next year.

Grinds

I'm glad you could hang out with us, Nick. Stay tuned, this kind of thing happens every now and again.

What ended up happening?

The Twilight Imperium game lasted until a little after 4am. Hox finally got through the wormhole and punished Jake Dent for his early game insolence. Keldar held off ELewis for while but finally fell before the combined might of ELewis' fleet and my twin War Suns. The Lazzarian Empire built a huge fleet (including 2 War Suns of their own) and pushed Gunner off of the center planet after a massive battle, but it wasn't enough to keep Gunner from completing enough objectives to push him over the top. Congratulations again to Supreme Emperor Gunner and many thanks to drdoak for keeping things moving along.

Thanks to everyone who made the trip out. This year was pretty amazing and although some of us won't be able to remember it, it seemed like everyone had a great time. I'm so glad to have met so many great goodjers - especially the LoL Scrubs group. Events like this remind me how great this community really is.

P.S. Stay tuned for a deluge of pictures, everyone. I saw more cameras there than I felt comfortable with, considering the average BAC of the attendees.

I had a great time out this weekend. Thanks to everyone who helped put it on and those who trekked from long and far to make it. Extra big thanks to a good roommate (Pyro) and his homebrew buddy (Phish) for the beer and good conversation. It was especially great to meet some new people--Boogle and Thin J are super nice guys, no matter how much they cuss you out on TF2/Starcraft threads ;).

Viva Red Team!

I still don't know who you are. Still, thanks for coming!

EDIT: Someone informed you are the night manger's son. Welcome!

Aww man, I wish I could have been there. Maybe next year.

Not to rub it in for all of you who couldn't make it, but it was SUCH a good time.

Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making this go off with very few minor, unpredictable, and expediently dealt-with hitches. Especially thanks to everyone who showed up. It would not have been a party otherwise.

And thanks to carrotpanic for voluntarily being my beer wench. Your charity was appreciated, sir.

I won't single out people, but I had a great time with everyone. From the quiet, to the loud and drunk, good times were had.

Oh, and congrats to Oily for beating Horde mode! Nice skills, on Normal.

Oily didn't play..but his gamertag DID get the cheevo!

Never got a chance to try Castle Ravenloft like I wanted, but ah well. Was awesome all around anyway.
Thanks again to all the staff, really great job keeping everything held together and fun even with the connection issues.

Yup, that's the joke.

edit: A selection of photos are now uploaded to the PenguinCon photo album. Apologies for the terrible low light/wide angle/tilted shot hijinks.

Put some salt in the water to cool down beer even quicker. Other then that, I am really jealous!
Have fun! (or more fun)

PenCon 2011. What a great event!

I'd like to thank the entire PenCon staff for all the time and effort they put into this weekend. You guys did such a great job to keep everything moving, and sacrificed a lot of game playing time in order to do so. Perhaps next time around, we'll have to leave a day with no organized tournaments so the staff can join in on all the fun.

I'm amazed at how many quality people are a part of this community. Everyone that I interacted with this weekend could not have been more kind. drdoak's patient board game directions was greatly appreciated. Now that I've played Twilight Imperiam once, I feel like I'm kind of an expert, so I'll run it next time, so you can get some game time in. The "shotglass battleship" board was a very inspired idea, kudos to whomever constructed it! I also busted my Gears of War cherry this weekend, which is not good..... desire to purchase is now very, very strong.

Thanks to everyone for making the weekend such a success. Looking forward to next year already.

It seemed almost rude to not sign up...

Good times had this weekend! ...even though we showed up late, and were groggy, and I went to bed at 2 am like a wuss.

Agreed on all accounts. Great people and good times all around! I also felt bad about going to be "early" each night, but I trying to pace myself this year.

Yes, I totally went to bed when I got home and forgot to post the link to the photo albums where everyone can share their PenguinCon pictures.

The best part about this place is that you don't have to sign up to add your own photos. Just upload them, and you're done.

Please add everything you took that came out well. I have to grab mine off of my camera. They'll probably be up there in the next half hour. As soon as I got home I went to sleep. Sooooo tired. Two hours later and I'm... Still tired, but awake for the moment.

I forgot...what team won?

That may just be the best picture ever taken of Doak.

Swear to God, teams were random. I'll post the final team scores in a little bit.

Also, I think our MVP has got to be ThinJ, dude placed in 2 tournaments and was over a third of our points by himself. Lars should also be in consideration given that he won the fighting game tournament and couldn't win poker because he volunteered to be the dealer. Red Team: discuss!

Glad everyone had a great time but please let's not talk about next year for at least a week =)

One last thing, I've got a microUSB charger here. Whoever lost it, PM me.

oilypenguin wrote:

Lars was the victor in the Mortal Kombat portion of the QCDP. Thin_J won the QCDP overall.

So... why was that dude wearing a bathrobe the whole time?
