Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

Can't wait to try this stuff... Make sure it's not all gone by Saturday, I'm on sober-duty on Friday.

What will the refreshment scene be like? Stuff around to buy? Bring your own? Free?

That's a great question, McFed.

We'll have 10 cases of beer courtesy of Cheeto and your friendly Pencon staff and I'm planning on buying 4 cases of water as well.

There will be pizza Saturday; the staff is picking up the tab on that.

And... that's about all the food we have the budget for. So everything else will need to be shopped for or acquired by you guys. We will be supplying cups, though. So you don't need to worry about that, at least.

I wouldn't be too worried about booze, I've learned that tends to work itself out. However, feel free to bring food and we'll figure out what local shops are about so we can plan for shopping trips.

If you give me shipping info and I ordered today do you think a Case O' Bawls from thinkgeek would get there in time (Friday)?

If you pick a fast enough shipping method, sure.

MicroCenter on the East side of Cleveland (Mayfield Heights) sells it by the bottle. No idea what the price difference is and its in-store pickup only.

I have enough bottles I can hold one for you. What flavor do you want?

Um... Both?

If I absolutely had to pick a single one, though, pumpkin.

Getting it here quick would be expensive and it needs to get here tomorrow as shipping it to the hotel is out and I won't be home starting Thursday morning.

Ok then, maybe I'll just field a group to check out the MicroCenter to pick some up.
It's just not a true LAN unless there's nerds playing games with Bawls in their mouths.

I live near there... I could pick some up and you could repay me on Friday but I don't have a lot of cash handy.

By the way, PenguinCon has an official app. It's available on the Android market, just search for PenguinCon. It is also available as a web-based app, written in HTML5, so it is compatible with iOS devices.

The url is for the web-based app is:

We kinda want to stress test the server, so feel free to make use of it.

General reminder, please continue to test this, and also...

PATCH YOUR GAMES NOW.

That is all.

It's OK, Strangeblades. He's only a hologram.

I feel like I should know who this guy is. I remember something about a guy with an H on his forehead - some British sci-fi show? Wait is that guy from Red Dwarf?

Hate to be the update nazi, but there's another UPDATE ALERT.

If you're planning on bringing your 360, and you haven't turned it on for a few days, do so now. There's an XBox Live update.

There is also, apparently, a TF2 update dropping TOMORROW. Update your clients, folks! (And servers, for those bringing them).

People planning to crash on floors: bringing blankets, sleeping bags or an air mattress is probably a good bet.

Also, PC bringers. Seriously. Bring a fairly lengthy network cord and a surge protector.

How long does the network cord have to be? Mine is about 10 feet long.

Strangeblades wrote:

That sounds like a healthy length. And a comment ripe for out-of-context theater.
You should be good with 10 feet, though, unless our LAN area is WAY larger than I think it will be.

People should probably bring extra network cords if they have them (I for one, do not have one and am thinking of bringing the computer).

If you're on the fence about bringing your PC, don't be. We'll figure it out if we have space issues.

I should be able to bring a few spare network cords.

Any MN-only beers I should bring besides Surly?

All of them will be fine.

Haven't checked in for a while. Here are a couple of random thoughts.

* FedMcQ, his little friend and I will be arriving between 4 and 6pm on Friday. DO NOT TOUCH ZE BIER WIZOUT ME!
* Still on the fence about bringing my PC. Would installing LoL and TF2 (never played either) keep me busy enough to justify packing it?
* Now that KG isn't coming, is the love pannel cancelled?
* When is the brewery tour again? I wanna bring the mistress a souvenir.

1.) heh, yeah, good luck with not touching the beer. Also, did McFed's little friend register? If not, he's not on a team and I can fix that. PM me, McFed.
2.) Yes.
3.) Yes.
4.) I wasn't going to organize since they won't give us a private one it but if you still want to take it, head here and register for one of the tours.

12 hours until liftoff from Minneapolis. WOOT!

He wont be coming with me afterall. He lost his passport.

Phishposer and I are bringing 4 corny kegs of homebrew beer between us. Boogle is also bringing a ton of homemade mead. And I don't know who else is participating in the homebrew competition but we'll have that as well.

I may make a Kroger run for some snacks just to have around. Are there refrigerators available to use at the hotel for keeping food cold?

The only means we have of keeping things cold is a cooler that will likely be full of beer all the time. Depending on how nice the hotel is, there may be minifridges in the rooms, but nothing in the con space.

I've been awake for almost 36 hours and haven't even begun packing things up. I also haven't done laundry in two weeks.

Is it possible to get a degree in procrastination?

Maybe. But the course plan is a work in progress.

TF2 Update has been pushed back to tomorrow (Thursday). So, if you're not coming on Thursday, and not driving up overnight, make sure you tell Steam to update it before you go to bed.
