Penguincon 2011: It was Fedorable

I registered, but the email I got was all wrong. Literally all the options except for the text boxes showed up as the wrong option.

I've fixed it - remind me to fire my QA staff.

If you hit your edit link, though, it should be showing up fine, it was just the text that was in the email that should have been wrong.

Sweet-ass T-shirt! Yeah, we're going to have shirts. Will they be awesome? That's kind of up to you =) Details to follow.

So there will be a competition for that, huh?

OilyPenguin is not so good at subtlety.

That's true, I fail at subtle.

There will be a design competition to make shirts for this event specifically but I'm hoping they'll be usable for the other IGWJD events.

Details on that will follow in a month or so but ideally, these shirts will match up with your team colors =)

By the way, still an e-mail issue, I selected that I'm bringing my PC, and the email said I was not.

Also, want to confirm, Oily, that the reservation link on those pages for the hotel rooms counts towards our total rooms, yes? It's not obvious on the page or anything and I want to make sure before I go through with it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I can see the group code in the URL. Proceeding.

Should be all good now.

Sorry, I should have said this:

The link provided on the site brings you to the rooms that we get a discount on (including the breakfast vouches).

If you want to arrange your room separately or choose a different room, you need to call the hotel and tell them Gamers With Jobs sent you.

And I can't stress this enough, please, until we fill a bunch of rooms, no one try cramming 8 people in a hotel room. I doubt we've underestimated turnout that badly but we need to at least approach a certain number of rooms or we'll lose some discounts. Another reason we went with the Holiday Inn was because of how lax they were about this requirement, so I don't see us getting boned but I'd also like to avoid that conversation if at all possible.

We only need to approach 50 nights for that weekend and with people coming on Thursday, I think that's very achievable.

RSVP'd and Hotel'd (Thurs to Sun).

So here is a question, when do I need to reserve my hotel room?
Also, can I at a future time upgrade my reservation from basic to SUPER DELUXE AWESOMENESS?

You can reserve your hotel room at that price until 30 days before the event (after that, not only do we not get credit, it goes up in price). The sooner the better for all of us, though.

We can do some fancy editing of the account to upgrade registrations but I'd rather not mess with the database. I understand why some people would be hesitant so... let's say between now and 7-10 you can upgrade. Just shoot me a PM.

Well what with the I don't have a real job right now, I'm going to wait on the reservation.

What if I want a super swank edition?

Then... buy one? Boogle is referring to buying the cheap ticket now and upgrading later.

I would love to come in but seeing as I will need to fly there, it depends on the financial situation we find ourselves in after our current orgy of home improvement projects is completed... say end of June.

You PM me your demands and we'll come up with a price =)

I'm not responding to Boogle. I was joking in addition to the normal swanky package.

Oh, I thought you were referring to the already existent swanky package and adding superfluous adjectives to it.

While we're still working on the rules, I can announce a few of our "official" tournaments:

Starcraft 2
Halo: Reach (I know it's a year old. We need a shooter and want a game everyone can pick up and play)
MK and SSF4:AE. Yes, both. Same tournament. Just trust me.
Poker

It's very possible that these are the only events we'll host in an "official" capacity (though if anyone wants to run anything else, we'll figure out how to do it).

In this case, "official" means that we'll hand out points that go towards the meta game total to help your team win. Since that means nothing to you right now before we announce how that game works, maybe don't worry about it?

Anyway, fun! =)

Woo RTS.

For shooter, why don't we do some 5 man CS:S?

boogle wrote:

You know...

I've heard worse ideas. We were leaning Halo because it's on a console so everyone can pick up and play it. CS is kind of... well, it's hard to jump into that and expect to do well, frankly.

We can crowd source this, though.

Suggestions for shooters, hit me.

Half Life 2 Deathmatch!

Typically shooters on the console are on a relative even playing field (granted you have to take into account connection). When you get to the CPU games, one might have a beter cpu then a different person and thus find themselves at a distinct advantage. Just saying it might be something to consider. I would vote go for MW2. Its old at this point, but still would probably get the job done.

CS:S is an accepted standard. I mean, yes I played a few seasons of TWL and one of CAL:O but its just better. EDIT Last I checked CSS was easy to run on pretty much dirt and consoles are for people who don't know better for shooters.

It isn't really about better or worse. It is about making an even playing field for everyone to enjoy. That is why Halo was originally selected. It is very balanced, and anyone can grab a controller, get a few kills and have a decent time.

Holy crap, you're coming from Arkansas?

You're the man =)

yay for car pools!

I also may have read "AR" as meaning Arizona at first. So... let's just move on, shall we?

Oooooh Starcraft 2? I can not believe I will be at any of Penguins events and I will actually know how to play a game!!!

PS. I can't wait to play captain ravenholt again!

Anyone who says you can just pick up a controller and play halo I would like to punch. Do we not remember myself in the last tourney?

Do we remember the person who won it lied extravagantly said he's never played it before?
