Skylanders

Finally picked up a 3 pack and two singles from my local WalMart.

The singles were Voodood[/url] and Chop Chop.

The triple pack was Drobot, Flameslinger, and Stump Smash.

Picked up two 3 packs from my local walmart, Drobot,Flameslinger,Stump smash and the other pack was Double trouble, Whirlwind and Drill sargent. My son was very happy.

Game Informer posted an elemental guide. Sounds like most of you with the game have this figured out already.

Announced today, this from Co-Optimus...

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in. Surprise, surprise, Activision has just announced Skylanders Giants, the follow-up to the incredibly successful Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. This new game is offering bigger and better toys, as well as a whole new digital quest. Before you freak out: yes, all of your original Skylanders figures will work with the new game, along with all of their upgrades and XP. No, you don't need a new Portal of Power. Got it? Good.

Skylanders Giants will offer 20 new characters, including eight new Giant figures as well as eight new regular-sized characters featuring all new lighting effects (no batteries required!). Both of these new types of Skylanders will have additional in-game benefits. A whole new adventure will be available, including new Hero Challenges as well as "enhanced" Elemental Zones. There will also be more options for the PvP Battle Arena, as well as increased integration with the Skylanders Spyro's Universe website. Check out the following announcement trailer to see a Skylanders Giant in action.

Also mentioned on Joystiq. Dragon's Peak adventure pack will be a Toy's R Us exclusive for the first 30 days (March) plus Legendary Trigger Happy, and iridescent blue Bash will be TRU exclusive characters.

Apparently there's a new land pack too...the Empire of Ice (comes with the yeti dude). You can find it on Amazon though it is crazy expensive right now.

Well at least they're keeping backwards compatibility. Pretty good way to expand.

yay!
More toys to buy!

ugh, he's going to want ALL of them. like the Pokemon!

Does anyone else have lots of problems with the game freezing on the 360? It freezes up on us at least once a play session for us. It seems to be random and not just one point. In the last day it has happened changing skylanders and once when Chaos was on some rant. The only other time I ever had an issue with freezing was when I blew up a specific turret in FO3. Other than the freezing issue it's been a fun game.

No freezes for us so far on the 360.

For me it is few and far between. I just think my 360 is getting to hot because I will play Skyrim and then my son will come behind me and play Skylanders and it froze on him twice like that.

Nope, and we play a lot. Maybe a disc issue? Try an install?

We've had them on the PlayStation.

Hadn't thought of trying an install, I suppose that could help with both those issues. I installed it last night, we'll see how things go today. Thanks for the crowdsourcing.

I guess if that doesn't work Dad starts lobbying for a new 360

They have the Spyro Starter Pack (Game, Portal, 3 Figurines) on sale at Toys R Us for $39.99 (normally $69.99) this week. I couldn't find it at the one near me, but Best Buy price matched...

Now my son is hooked

My son's birthday coming up on the 28th.
Guess what he's asked for?
Keep in mind we already have Skylanders for the PS3.

He now wants a 3DS and the Skylanders game to go with it.

On the good side, we get 3 new guys!

Just a note of warning:

After finishing level 20, if you don't immediately continue on to level 21, the Weapon Master you need to talk to will be permanently asleep and unaccessable.

From Activision:
Try the following steps to fix this issue:
1. Quit to the Main Menu.
2. Select "Skylands Aventure".
3. Select a different save or start a new game.
4. Exit to the Main Menu and restart the save that was causing the issue.

If the steps above do not resolve the issue try switching between profiles. This may reset the level and allow you to reactivate the Weapon Master

Did those steps work for you?

Actually we haven't tried them yet. My son and I discovered the problem and then he went to bed while I researched it. I still have to introduce him to the wonderful world of software bugs.

The steps didn't work for my game in that state. We just played a new game from the start, which was fine. Experienced skylanders blew through the first few levels

The figures are starting to be out on the market again, but they still can be difficult to find. I popped into Toys R Us today around noon, and a guy was putting out a bunch of new 3 packs. It was the first time I'd seen them in a long time. I picked up one with Boomer, Prism Break, and Voodood for the kids. There were two other 3 packs: Lightning Rod, Cynder and Zook AND Zap, Hex, and Dino-Rang. I was really looking for the 3 pack with Drobot (for um, personal reasons), but he's not in one of the ones I saw today. They were $25, but through Saturday Toys R Us was giving a $5 gift card that matures 6 hours after purchase. Hmm ... do I go back in 6 hours for another set?

Also, they had a ton of Legendary Trigger Happy, but we already had the regular version of that one. Getting a golden version of a figure seems a bit too much like falling onto the collecting rabbit hole.

It's funny, I had been dying to get my hands on a Whirlwind, and the same day I got one, one of my friends that I asked to keep an eye out for them got one for me too. If someone wants to trade for an unopened Whirlwind, let me know.

Also, if anyone going to PAX East happens to have the Fire area from the Mega Pack, I would be so very much in your debt if we could arrange a temporary swap.

Looks like these savings have finally made their way down here.

AU$99.95 now down to AU$68. Knowing that Giants will be hitting soon, but also keeping in mind that they will be backwardly compatible, would you guys recommend jumping in?

I have 4 year old who is really into Voltron, Marvel Super Hero Squad, and Clone Wars. She is quite the little gender transferred chip off the old block.

Actually, out of interest, are many figures female voiced/aligned? Lack of gender parity in toy markets is becoming a bug bear of mine recently.

A number are indeterminate (dragons, magical toads, etc) and a handful are obviously female (my daughter picked those as her favourites right away).

Thanks Mike. Looking to get a setup 'on the cheap' and not wanting to get stuck with multiple characters that do the same thing, any suggestions??

I'll have the starter pack, so other elemental suggestions appreciated and replacements for the default if there are better options. I'm not being anal, I'm just trying to reign in my own urge to 'buy them all'...

If you want element coverage, cheapest way (here at least) was to grab the character 3-packs. I think you need two or three of them to get all eight types (but you might be able to substitute a single figure buy for the last). I had a quick search on google for lists of characters and packs, but couldn't find any good lists. But they're out there somewhere, as I can remember planning my purchases that way.

The female characters that *my* daughter likes are Stealth Elf and Hex. There are 3-packs containing each of those.

Another winning character for kids is Wrecking Ball (the tongue and burp attacks cause much laughter). But he's magic, same as Spyro in the basic set.

That's great, especially the Wrecking Ball recommendation.

Both of my little ladies are at the age where burps and farts are comedy gold.

Not sure if this is of interest or not, but the iPad Skylander App Skylanders Cloud Patrol just received an update which changed the status of Camo, Warnado and Wham-Shell to available, rather than coming soon (you purchase them in game with found crystals, or with your web code unlock cards).

I'm guessing they'll be available retail real soon, if not right now, for you guys in the States. Might save a panic buy on eBay from some of the more unscrupulous types out there if you see them and feel tempted.

ARISE!

This weekend, Skylanders Giants releases. Activisoin has sold over 40 million of the little figures so far. I've seen quite a bit of advertisement for the game. A few weeks ago, a kiosk was set up at my local mall showing off the new figures and allowing kids to play the game on a PS3, Xbox, or a Wii. I was also able to pick up a poster showing off all the new figures, which my daughter adored, especially since she has almost worn out our original poster. Over the year, we've accumulated many many figures. My daughter turns five on Monday, so it's our excuse to get her the new game and giant figure. Anyone else still playing this, with or without your kids?

Totally. First game came out right after my son turned 4 and he loved watching me play and being in charge of swapping out figures when we would need a Life or Undead Skylander, ect. He loves watching all the 30 second preview videos too. He just turned 5 now and is pumped for Skylanders Giants. The game is pretty basic, but very long and the different characters keeps it fresh. Just wish you could skip text by holding the button for a few seconds (like how Dishonored does it) so that you don't accidentally skip the text in case you want to read it. I think the "re-positioned" figures is BS, but the light core figures look cool. My buddy's 7 year old is also into the game, and I will admit that he and I play the battle arena mode against each other from time to time. Great way to get the kids' figures some extra money too since they hate grinding.

Absolutely I am!

Released down here on the Wednesday just passed, and while my 4.5 year old was at pre-kindy for a half day, me and my 3 year old went Skylander hunting!

We picked up the portal owner edition, so we got Tree Rex with that.

Pre-ordered through Toys R Us, so we got a Legendary Bouncer (giant) for half price, then grabbed Swarm and Crusher (also Giants).

With the single packs, we got Pop Fizz, Chill and Fright Night.

Grabbed the three pack containing Shroomboom, S2 Chop Chop and the Dragon Canon Battle arena unlock 'toy'.

As we were leaving, they asked if i'd be interested in another box they had under the counter which had Legendary Jet-Vac, Legendary Ignitor and Legendary Slam Bam...

Quite the day!

Everything released to date works great in the new game, even bringing their old hats into the game. Normal deal though, you take them off you lose them. Not sure how the new hats would transfer back though either.

New toys have an orange sub base to them, old ones had green. It only counts orange based figures for the cumulative in game bonuses, which is a bit of a jip, but I vowed not to buy S2 if we have them in S1. It's not a deal breaker, but it really tugged at that completionist urge.

Nothing new from the old game, but that worked well enough. They've done a good job setting up the story too, but I won't spoil that.
