PC Racing Simulation

Assetto Corsa also released a patch today, which added a bunch of layouts to existing tracks and had some new content:

- New Abarth 595esseesse and S1, S2 upgrades
- New Ford Mustang GT 2015
- New Corvette C7 Stingray
- New Black Cat County track

Right at the very bottom, (literally), of the patch notes is "Improved AI behavior in traffic." The AC AI needs a lot more help than that. If they ever sorted that out I'd probably play this game non stop.

Automobilista is back in the Steam store, as the complaint was withdrawn. From the Reiza forums...

"As previously reported, Valve & Reiza had received a DMCA notice for Automobilista, which resulted in the game being taken down from Steam for a couple of weeks according to the regulated standard procedure. The matter was discussed and clarified with the complaining party who withdrew the complaint, shortly before it was due to elapse.

We have in any case elected to modify several of the fictional cars in the game to feature different designs, and will continue to update them as a preventive measure to avoid similar confusion about whether part of the content in the game presented & branded as fictional / unofficial is indeed so. Many of these changes have already been introduced in the latest v0.8.9 update.

While current US jurisprudence regarding application of copyright / trademark law in videogames indicates the legal validity of such claims may be debatable, ultimately it shouldn´t really matter as we feel the inherent value of Automobilista does not relate to the visual accuracy (or lack thereof) of some of its unofficial cars, but rather to the quality and realism of the racing experience that it provides and which we produce.

With this hopefully established, we´d like to thank everyone for your continuing support - rest assured we have been and continue pushing hard towards getting Automobilista ready for full release!"

Can you race AC in multiplayer with AI included like you can in PCars?

AC as in Assetto Corsa? No, you can't add AI in multiplayer.

Still haven't won a V8 Supercar race on Automobilista. Getting much closer though. Like 00:00.034 closer.

Going to be seeing "Bottle-O" in my nightmares.

The soft tyres on these things will do about five laps before every braking point becomes an adventure. By the last lap I was on lap 11 on a set of softs.

Cool video Bis

So I take it that just because a game uses the isiMotor engine, that's no indication of its onscreen performance? I can play R3E at 900p60 on medium with 95 cars on Nords; so I downloaded the rFactor 2 demo after watching some historic GP races on YouTube, and it looks worse than R3E (that's fine) but also runs way worse. I'd be lucky to get 30 fps at the same settings.

RF2's look definitely isn't great, although there is some stuff you can do with that using sweetfx, but you're right, you definitely won't be able to run the same number of cars as you do in R3E. Something about RF2's AI just eats CPUs.

It's very good AI - it defends in a way I haven't seen from other games - but you will have to tone down the mega-fields to get it to work.

Rumor has it that iRacing will re-add Oculus Rift support next week during their quarterly update. http://www.roadtovr.com/iracing-ocul...

Edit: Coroborrating patch notes

I couldn't even run 10 cars. I read that the AI is probably the best of the lot, and after seeing how awesome the old F1 cars looked in a Jimmy Broadbent video, and how less-than-demanding the graphics looked, I thought RF2 would be a pushover to run. I'll try fiddling with the graphics some more, but if that's no help then I'll sacrifice some Hot Wheels to the Sector3 gods and hope they add some '60s cars and an appropriate Spa layout.

I'm currently running a 24 hour race in rFactor2, (yay, mid-event saving), and have 40 GT3 cars running around Mid Ohio. I'm getting about 80FPS with the settings maxed, but as night falls and headlight effects start to come in, that'll dip a bit.

Time Left : 19:45.

Four and a quarter hours in and that's the leader right in front of me! Because he just lapped me.

It was the frikkin' Meganes. After an hour of playing with settings, driving the Megane the whole time, I tried the Formula car with the exact same settings I'd settled on, and my minimum framerate went from 45 to 60.

I blame the French.

Clearly the CPU load of a car increases proportionally with the number of vowels.

I should probably ask: since I'm interested in racing some '60s F1 cars on '60s circuits, is rFactor 2 my best bet? It has the BT20 and two fictional cars, and four historic circuits (Longford, Monaco, Monza, Spa). I don't think I've seen another current game with as much historic content but I'm open to all suggestions if you have any.

The short and long answers are both "yes."

Automobilista currently only has F1 cars back to the 1970s but their first DLC pack is going to include "Formula Vintage" - a 60s cigar tube Formula car. However it still won't have the vintage tracks, unless they come from modders.

Thanks! Glad to know I didn't miss anything. I've more or less just discovered '60s F1, and now I really want to race a coffin with an engine hanging out the back past dapper spectators protected by nothing but the occasional hay bale.

Formula E will try a live race where racing simulation players at a Las Vegas event can compete against the racers. There's no indication of what sim will power the virtual component of the race.

Probably Forza 6, since that's what they use for their Race-Off eSports stuff.

He said simulation.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRE has just started its summer sale, with 50% off all individual cars and tracks and a new "Summer Special Pack" featuring 30 cars and 15 tracks for just 50 socialist currency units.

IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/I3nQDXG.jpg)

That pack is only available from the store itself, so is really for people who don't own much/any content in the game yet

Thanks Bismark - I have been enjoying RRRE as my single player experience and will probably jump on this offer.

Nuts, I was hoping for a sale on packs. Alright, where's my slide rule...

I just got a new fancy GTX 1070 based PC with a 144Hz Gsync monitor and set up my T300 wheel again. I already had Dirt Rally and post Steam sale have added the expanded versions of Assetto Corsa & Project Cars too!

My favourite experience so far has to be throwing the Shelby Cobra 427 around in Assetto Corsa. With that wheel and the sound turned right up it's absolutely incredible!

After winning my first MotoGP15 race I gave everyone my patented celebration.

And here's the race leading up to that glorious pratfall... 20+ overtaking moves in a great back and forth.

This is against hard AI which is a little concerning for day one playing the game. There's one more level above that, (simulation), and then it seems Race Department has a bunch of AI mods available too.

The mod I really want is the one to take the "REPLAY!" chrome off the replays. You made a pretty game, let me take pretty pictures of it!

In case anyone is in the market for a cockpit (or just otherwise interested), I just posted my thoughts on the GT Omega ART chassis over in the Forza 6 thread. (Or you can just look at the annotated photo album here.)

Short version: aside from being a bit less than ideal if you have multiple users who would want to adjust it often, it's a really excellent piece of gear. Especially notable (and why I chose it over other options) is that thanks to its sturdy but lightweight, low footprint design and the optional lockable caster wheels, it fits my personal use case perfectly. I wanted something rock solid, durable, and comfortable that was also highly mobile so that I could move it between two locations of use (my PC desk and my TV) and easily tuck it away in the corner of the room or in the spare bedroom when not in use -- and that is exactly what this cockpit is.

zeroKFE,

This is almost exactly what I am looking for - also appreciate that they have a Canadian specific site. thanks for posting

You're welcome! Happy it was helpful.

Trying to decide between this and a simetik cockpit. I have a playseat now that I need to sell first
