The Clock is Ticking, is the Pile Shrinking?

Pages

School is back in session, and people's schedules are getting back into the non-summer "routine." We've really run out of excuses why the pile isn't shrinking.

We've got a little bit of time left before the holiday season, and its onslaught of games. Let's make the most of this time!

Next month will be the last thread for 2011. A lot of people play the new games, travel, etc... so, we make the October thread last for 3 months and pick back up in January.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Vanquish

IMAGE(http://ehdwallpapers.com/thumbs/vanquish-game-t2.jpg)

"Vanquish takes place in the near future where planet Earth's human population has grown so rapidly that nations of people around the globe are fighting for the scarce available resources. The United States of America has attempted to alleviate its own energy problems by launching an O'Neill Cylinder space station harboring a solar energy-driven generator to provide them with an alternative source of fuel from the sun. However, the government of the Russian Federation on Earth has been overthrown in a coup d'état by ultra-nationalist forces calling themselves the Order of the Russian Star.

Russian forces capture this space station and divert its harvested solar energy into a blast wave that devastates San Francisco, aiming to force the U.S. into a total and unconditional surrender. The main antagonist, known as Victor Zaitsev, demands that the American government surrender or he will choose New York City as his next target.

The President of the United States of America, Elizabeth Winters, refuses to back down in the face of such a threat. Instead, she takes Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Burns, a decorated war veteran, and puts him in charge of a newly-commissioned task force called Bravo Company. This team consists of several space-faring special forces, veteran Marines, and the remnants of the defending U.S. forces on board the space station. On top of that, she also gives them the game's protagonist and playable character, Sam Gideon." (wikipedia.org)

I'm going to give Crysis 2 a shot this month.

I already started it, but I'm trying to finally finish Dragon Age 2 on the PC.

I'll tackle Demon's Souls.

I'm going to tackle some short games this month, starting with the rest of Sam & Max Season 1. Please put me down for these:

Sam & Max 103: The Mole, the Mob, and the Meatball
Sam & Max 104: Abe Lincoln Must Die!
Sam & Max 105: Reality 2.0
Sam & Max 106: Bright Side of the Moon

Here we go again!

September will be my Mass Effect 2 month. Have yet to pick up any of the DLC that didn't come with the cerberus pass, but I think I'll go through the game as is and get the DLC for a second run.

Thinking of liasoning with another game. Something more nostalgic but not necessarily as big. I keep wanting to go back to Persona 2: Innocent Sin... but I think I'm better off playing something lighter.

Make it Chapter 5 of Tale of Monkey Island: Rise of the Pirate God for my second entry this month.

I am going to go for Vanquish. I will in fact plan on vanquishing Vanquish from my pile of valor. I will valorously vanquish Vanquish from said pile in a valiant manner. Valiantly.

Thanks as always, Hemidal! It's about time I finished Batman: Arkham Asylum (360); already started it but qwow is this a way bigger game than I thought.

This might run over since it's hard to get through a classic JRPG in one month, but I'm gunning for Final Fantasy IV (PSP) as well.

I finally started a Backloggery account too, so watch out; I'm organized!

carrying forward Still Life from last month...if I can drag myself away from Xenoblade/Deus Ex long enough then i'll hopefully get the chance to finish it before something ELSE shows up.

Let's start off with Nier (PS3) which I just started a couple days ago, and Radiant Historia (DS) which I have been plugging away at for two or three months now.

I'll continue Faxanadu on the NES and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies on the DS. I don't really know what else I would commit to at this point.

This month will likely be filled mainly with Deus Ex and Devil Survivor Overclocked, but I'll aim to at least finish Tinker. And since I like having a little something to fill in the gaps when I can't really settle into something long-term, put me down for Duels of the Planeswalkers (the original). I just have to beat that last deck and then I'm done, but I never seem to make it past the first few turns before it's obvious that I'll lose.

I'm going to be ambitious this month and try to knock 3 games off the pile. Along with finishing up the Strongbad series (Strongbad Episode 5: 8-bit Is Enough (PC)) that I've been working through for the past few months, I'm going to commit myself to beating Bully (360) and 3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3).

Hopefully I can avoid spending most of my time with the Paradox games this month.

The list should be current.

Not that it makes a difference, but Tinker is a PC exclusive.

Current does not necessarily mean correct...

I'll be working on Mass Effect 2 and Borderlands (Knoxx and Claptrap DLC)

I am about halfway into Bastion and just cleared the first city in DE H+, so I don't know if I'll have time to get to the pile. But the fall lineup looks so good and I wanna clear a bit more pile before adding to it again.

Hope I can knock something out over the long weekend and get back to this thread next week.

The clock is ticking for me indeed. I have my firstborn coming any day now with the official due date set to September 10th. I'm 6 races away from a burnout license (been told that's when the credits roll) in Burnout Paradise (PC, using a 360 pad). I'm gonna make that my one goal for the month, which could be done in one night if I get time tomorrow or this weekend. I'm figuring on making next to no pile progress promises for the rest of the year. Maybe one game a month that I've already gotten into.

I think I'm going to go for Bioshock 2. I liked the first one and have heard the second one is great after a slow start. Please put me down for that one.

Yeah, somebody else with over 70% of their library unfinished! I think you may actually have a higher unfinished % than AUs_TBirD, impressive!

Put me down for Splatterhouse, and Brutal Legend please, both on 360 (for me).

Dragon Age 2 PC. Just got it, but already caught up in it, might as well keep going.

Still battling the Capitol Wastelands. One side mission left to do and then nothing but main plot, bobbleheads and super mutant behemoths. It's been challenging finding time to play the past couple of weeks, and that's going to continue for at least another week, but it's starting to feel like the end is in sight. It's enough that I'm trying to figure out what I can tackle when I'm done to make the biggest dent I can, which probably means God of War I and II. Probably Limbo as well, which may be old enough on the PS3 to qualify as being in the pile by the time I get there.

I loved Bully, and really hope a sequel surfaces soon. 3D Dot Game Heroes, on the other hand, is the most likely game in my pile that'll go unfinished. It's cute, but somehow doesn't seem to have a strong enough hook to really capture my interest.

For the sake of these threads, pile games are 3 months old from release date. So, Limbo definitely qualifies. Would you like to declare Fallout 3, GoW 1 and 2 and Limbo?

Well, a long night of chasing too many random things and beating my head against a challenge because I was so close more times than I can remember, and I got all the time road rules done and obtained my burnout license. I"m calling Burnout Paradise done since the credits rolled. I need sleep now.

Oh! Oh! Oh! I on cat-care, and the owners let me borrow Fallout: New Vegas (PS3), and left me the giantest bottle of Maker's Mark you've seen! I'm contributing!

Limbo wasn't release for the PS3 until July 17th, so won't be stale until October. Go ahead an put me down, optimistically, for Fallout 3 and GoW 1. Thanks!

Hmm, I own the fabulous Bioshock 2 CE, but have never played either part of the series. Seeing that BS1 probably won't drop below its 20 buck price point before Christmas, how much enjoyment and narrative will I miss, if I play 2 before 1?

They're largely unrelated stories, and Bioshock 2 is the better game, so go ahead and play that one.

Still Life is beaten. Or at least, as beaten as a game can be which HAS NO FRICKIN' ENDING! I can see why a lot of people were somewhat..annoyed with it on it's original release.

I think I need a change of adventure-game scenery before jumping into the sequel/part 2 so I'll opt for one of the other games I've had installed for ages and never finished : Black Mirror.
