P.S.: 16-for-42 for Gabbert at home? How do you spin that one?

No "spin" needed, just growing pains.

Gabbert had an excellent first half and a poor second half. Lots of near-misses.

But I'll just sit and wait. If you actually watch the guy instead of his numbers, it's painfully obvious there's talent there that is still getting the necessary experience. It's also obvious that it won't be all that long before he makes comparing him to Clausen look silly.

His first half did look really good.

Being that Tampa actually gets to play on MNF for the first time in NINE YEARS since that @#$~!!! implosion against the Colts in 2003, I had a free slot for viewing and, since the Vikes-Chiefs game sucked balls, I watched the Jags-Saints. Gabbert played well in the first half. The Saints like to send all kinds of crazy blitzes, and the most important thing I saw from Gabbert was a lack of panic; sure, he missed on some passes, but he actually looked calm and composed, and that sort of "poise" is a "have it or don't" thing. I watched mostly first half as I switched over to watch the epic Romo implosion in the second, but Gabbert was pretty accurate and didn't panic. Looks like he dropped off a cliff in the second in terms of completion %, but he passes the "eye test". Doesn't mean he's going to be actually good, but he shows more promise than Clausen ever did. Jimmy Douche Face never under any circumstances looked good or promising, but Gabbert has.

The most painful part of the Jaguar game was that Eugene Monroe's shoulder kept him out of the starting lineup, so Guy Whimper started at left tackle. That was hard to watch.

Monroe hasn't yet taken the next step to being a dominant left tackle, but I bet Jaguar fans complain about him a lot less after this week.

My Gabbert-Clausen comparison last week was an attempt at empathy.

This week, Gabbert still completed just 38 percent of his passes and the Jags got rolled.

Those are some Clausen-esque numbers. But, hey, that's only two weeks worth of data. Can't draw any hasty conclusions!

Last time Clausen played the Saints, he threw for 47 yards.

Whoa. Those are Sanchez-like numbers. The Jets should trade for him.

I think the big lesson from last night is that Mark Sanchez can be a reasonably average QB when standing behind possibly the best offensive line in all of football. He clearly did not have that line last night.

Is anyone using the PS3 for the NFL Sunday ticket? If so, how is the quality and are you going wireless or hardwired?

Going wired.. quality is fine once the channel "settles in". So for the first few seconds when you change "channels" the feed is blocky and pixelated.. but then it eventually given your bandwidth looks like an HD feed for the most part.

Local QoS if your router supports it helps if people on your network suddenly start stealing bandwidth.

Speaking of Tampa, heard the guys on the radio during the baseball game Fri say that all the TVs tonight in each building would be on the other game. And apparently the football game sold out for once, despite baseball playoffs being on the same day. Going to be a fun night in the bay area.

I am likely going to go streaming-only for Sunday Ticket starting next season, but I was really wondering about the quality issue. People complain about it on avsforum but I don't know if they're being overly picky or if it's really problematic.

Does streaming include DirecTV's Red Zone Channel?

What's the big difference between the two Redzones, anyway?

Penicillin will cure one; nothing will help the other.

I was trying to get Redzone from Comcast but it wasn't available. I was pretty frustrated when Detroit was making a comeback (I live in Chicago area) and they decided to show me Washington having some kneeldowns for the win instead.

Never having the Cable or DirecTV Red Zone Channel I have no clue.. the Streaming has a "Red Zone Channel" that bounces back and forth between games.. but I can't comment on how that compares to any of the other offerings.

I watched it the first week for kicks and giggles..but I found myself just wanting to watch the games in full.. I'm too old school and don't play Fantasy Football I guess. Its nice during commercial breaks though.

As for Quality the feed is certainly not as clean as a Cable Feed.. if the game I want to watch is on Cable I'm switching the PS3 off and watching it on Cable.. you can certainly visibly see the difference.. but that being said its certainly "Good enough"

Madonna for Super Bowl halftime? In the post-wardrobe malfunction era, that's a sure sign that you're getting old or least perceived to be tame enough by the NFL.

Edit: Oh, and tonight's MNF will be short a familiar piece thanks to good ol' Godwin's Law.

FTFY.

How 'bout a damned marching band? Is that so hard, NFL?

I bought my first jersey the year after the Bucs won the Superbowl. It was a few games into the 2003 season and most of the team was back; there were reasonable expectations of a repeat. I wore my Derrick Brooks jersey for the first time on the evening of October 6, 2003, for the Monday night game where the Bucs blew a 21 point lead late in the fourth quarter in one of the singly most epic collapses I have ever seen. I barely slept that night, and strongly considered burning the jersey the next day.

Tonight, I wear it in hopes of BLOODY VENGEANCE.

I am going to die. Right now. That was a giant bucket of horror that ended with a win. Tampa took two DTs with with their first two picks two years ago, two DEs this last year; if the next two picks are not safeties I will commit seppuku. Curtis Painter had a few decent throws, but, aside from two long TDs, was a giant bucket of panic. With decent safeties, this game is a blowout. Oh, and not stepping out of bound before catching a TD pass, that would help too.

Dying now.

Don't burn that jersey just yet, MMD. It's a WIN. The Bucs are 3-1. Sun rose this morning. Lunch will taste good. Dinner will taste better. And at the end of the day, the Bucs will still be atop the NFC South.

Just back away from that ledge ... back ... baaaaaack ...
