NFL 2011 Week 4

I agree with Stele. As a bonus in that scenario, we wouldn't have to go hunting for the next week's thread.

The difference is that the NFL in only 17 weeks + playoffs, with a focus on (effectively) one day of games. Everything else runs longer and has more games. The focus here is on individual games because we can talk about them more than, say, game 74 of the baseball season.

I'm not really making more of a point than that.

I don't know, I like the individual threads, and Rat Boy's assessment of all the games from the previous weeks. I think there's a lot to talk about during the 2nd half of the week on these threads this year, the picks probably stand out because they're clumped together at the beginning of the threads, IMO.

BTW, this was awesome:

I like individual threads, and while it's fun to make picks each week I enjoy that a lot less than the games commentary (by Rat Boy or others). I'd prefer we put the picks in a whole different thread if we keep them going.

Actual football talk, then.

I'm shocked at exactly how lousy the Eagles defense is playing. Any team with Asomugha and Samuel should be able to just stick nine in the box and shut everything down, but the LB play has been so utterly atrocious that it doesn't matter. Every time I flip over to an Eagles game to watch, it seems like the LBs are either completely out of position or utterly whiffing on tackles.

And Rodgers-Cromartie. They should be in nickel all the time.

oh yea and Tony Romo to be hysterical this year.

He's breaking into stand-up comedy?

I like the separate threads. The NFL story feels like it should be told chapter by chapter.

And I love that the picks are mixed in because it is fun to see who is getting the love each week.

If you want more football talk, just tell Legion his QB handicapping skills suck.

Read more football outsiders you plebs.

I agree. It's not just the LB's (although they are bad), but just basic tackling skills across the board. It feels like the coverage is often there, but the receiver/ball carrier just breaks away or runs through them. If it was just on running plays with blocking I could blame the LB's, but it's all over the field.

He might have to after his football career.

Just seems I cant avoid seeing the Cowboys because their games are either at night or close and something dramatic and funny (if your not invested as a fan) is happening.

Scary part is Tony Romo might actually die this week with his O line vs Detroit.

Detroits schedule: Dallas, Chicago, San Fran..... three weeks from now the NFL might have its first 3 QB homicides.

Titans
Texans
Patriots
Ravens

Falcons over Seahawks

Plus, three weeks from now Detroit could be 6-0!

Browns
Texans
Patriots
Ravens

Falcons over Seahawks

As far as separate threads go, I prefer to have one per week. As was said above it encapsulates each week as a discussion. Also the other three sports don't have near the volume the NFL thread does. The baseball thread for the whole season is only 16 pages. We had 21 pages in the first three weeks (the NBA thread had 21 for the whole season and playoffs).

Plus, tradition!

And look at it this way: the NFL is the only sport I know of that's divided into "weeks." That is, each week is divided into a concrete chunk with a beginning, middle, and end. All the rest just run continuously every day of each week for months on end.

Titans
Steelers
Patriots
Jets

Saints over Jags

My picks:

Titans at Browns - The Titans have looked surprisingly decent this year. I think Cleveland makes a game of it, but they lose in the end.
Steelers at Texans - I think the Steelers are getting more explosive and I am not sure why everyone is ready to move them down to a mid-tier team.
Patriots at Raiders - I don't like picking visiting teams that have to travel cross-country, but what is the chance of the Pats losing two in a row? Not good.
Jets at Ravens - A toss-up game, and I like the Ravens better so Baltimore it is.

Wildcard: Broncos at Packers - Denver has not looked good like usual lately.

I think the picks of the week should always include the Lions or the Bills until they both lose. Both of them could be 4-0 after this weekend, kind of crazy.

Browns
Steelers
Patriots
Ravens

Wildcard: Chargers over Dolphins at home

I have RedZone again. Still don't know why but it's great.

Mostly on Carolina so far, Newton looking good. Direct snaps to the RB, Cam running the option, screen passes, lots of different looks.

The yard markers in Jacksonville are backwards.

Aw come on David Akers. The only place you miss kicks is in Philly?

And thus begins the Colin Kaepernick era.

Did a little research and it looks like Cox's Sports and Information Pak includes it. I ain't complaining

4th and 1 on the goaline against the Lions d-line? Denied.

oh right.. thats why they gave Vick all that money.

YES! Just saw that.

EDIT: Doh, and now it's over?

Just poking in to say that I absolutely LOVE my first day with DirecTV's NFL Sunday Ticket. Now, back to football!

Gus Johnson sighting!

Edit: And Andre Johnson's down, complete with tragedy music #4 on RedZone.

Edit: And there goes Vick.

This pretty much guarantees that the Chiefs will have a miraculous comeback in the last minute.
