GWJ Online Boardgame Group

One spot left in the online play-by-email game of Tikal.

GWJ boardgame night was fun for me! I got to play 4 or 5 games of 7 Wonders and a game of Memoir '44. I went back and played a couple random games of 7 Wonders on BSW and now it's making sense. I hadn't exactly figured out how the money/resource trading worked, so now I can get a decent score since I know what's going on there. Hopefully, I won't be busy next Wed. either.

Okay I'm in!

Never played before, so will check out the rules. Darn timezones mean I'm missing out on the live action boardgaming on Wednesday nights, so hopefully this will fill the void a little!

Awesome!

I had never played before either. While the rules are pretty simple, for me it was in the process of playing that I started to figure some things out. I am fully committed to losing my first game that I am currently playing, but am looking forward to having more of a clue this time.

Thanks for the games last night. 7 Wonders was totally opaque to me at first, even after have read the rules, but by the third game I was piecing it together. Can't wait to play some more. I love how short the games are. It makes a great pick-up game while waiting for others.

I hope we can keep the schedule and bring others in. It would be great to have a large enough group from all timezones so that those starting later will still have company for games. Spread the word. There are games that need to be played!

I'd be interested in a game of Pandemic next week. I'd like to see how it plays online.

I had to flake due to work and some issues at home, so I apologize.

I am hoping to join in next week, though -- was there any discussion last night of what games will/should be on the list for the next time around?

Sorry I missed everyone last night. I had to head out to the inlaws and didn't make it back in time. I hope to be there next week.

I did tl;dr a little bit with this thread, but I was wondering if there are any folks out there interested in some heavier boardgames, specifically a PBEM game of one of the 18xx train game series? There's a large family of games descended from 1830 or 1825, many make excellent teaching games if anyone out there is curious about it. We'd probably need at least 3 for a halfway decent game, which I'd be willing to moderate.

If anyone does have a passing interest, here's a link to 1830 on BoardGameGeek.

I would be interested. Is there software out there for it or do you need to have the game itself?

I'm curious too. It seems 7 Wonders and Memoir 44 was played - anything else? Otherwise, we can roll Pandemic and San Juan on to next week.

We played a bunch of Race for the Galaxy on BoardGameArena.com, which worked surprisingly well. Hovertext makes it easier to play (especially for me, being colorblind) than t is in person even. I suck just as bad though.

There is software out there called Rails (can be found at http://rails.sourceforge.net/) that supports playing the game in hotseat mode. I haven't used the software much but I have heard good things. I have also played using Vassal or Cyberboard to track the map and a spreadsheet to track all the financials.

Subscribing for great justice! TheWalt told me about this thread today, and while I can't make it next week, I'd be interested in checking this out sometime.

This is an awesome idea, guys.

I don't play enough board games in person, so this sounds great to get my weekly fix.

Alright, so based on what was played last Wednesday I feel like we've played a bunch of 7 Wonders by now. I'm going to roll it off the list but keep Pandemic and San Juan. I'm also going to add Stone Age, another game available on BSW, to it, as it sounds like an awesome introduction to more complicated worker placement games like Agricola or Puerto Rico.

Check out the How to Play Podcast for a rules breakdown for Stone Age (Check the OP for the link).

I'll do the latest batch of invites this evening.

How many folks from Europe do we have on board so far? Lets see if we can get something going for our timezones. I'll take lead on setting things up if need be.

Stone age is great.

I can look forward to playing board games more than a couple times each year? Invite, por favor!

Dysplastic sent me this way from the dedicated RftG thread. Would like to play some RftG online with GWJers although I feel like I need a bit more seasoning with Keldon's AI first.

But... give a shout out when another RftG session is organized and I will try to participate!

I'm based in London, so on GMT time, and would love to play some boardgames online regularly.

So want to join.

Nietzche, Maclintok, post your steam profile page, I can't find you!

Heyo. Is this what you need?

Well, I'm in guys, although I might be a tad bit late on Wednesdays because I usually try to get a round of disc golf in most weekdays.
I can only hope that my lack of understanding won't force rabbit to go into dad teaching a game mode like when he taught me Dominion on BSW.

So I played some Memoir 44 with Sway today, and I highly recommend it to everyone here. It's a very easy to learn, fun and satisfying little war game, with a fantastic interface due to the dedicated client. I think you get 25 games for free, which should be more than enough for most - and if you're playing more than that, I'm sure buying more will be worth it to you.

Wicked. Let's plan on mirroring the North American Wednesday game night, but adjust to CET, if that works for you. How about Stone Age at 8pm CET(7pm GMT) Wednesday night, if we have enough folks? If it's just the two of us, I'm down for trying some Memoir '44.

Sounds good to me. I have played some Stone Age and Memoir '44 enough to know the rules, so should be fine. We can do a Steam announcement nearer the time and see who is around.

I would like an invite too please.

I'm happy to play games with the group, but if anyone is interested in learning PowerGrid on BSW or Though the Ages on www.boardgaming-online.com/ I would be happy to play or teach.

Very down for some powergrid this week.

I'd also be down for power grid. Anyone have a learning resource? How to Play hasn't covered it.
