Root Underworld

If anyone else is like me—excited to play, doesn’t mind using TTS, and has too few spouse-and-friends availability—maybe we could set up a GWJ Root event or two? Crossposting to [here].

Thanks for cross-posting

Root has been on my to-play list for a while. I'd be up for the challenge!

If you are on the GWJ Discord server maybe post in the Online Boardgaming Channel?

Has anyone played Gloomhaven or Cthulhu Wars on TTS? Those are a couple of games I'm interested in trying out.

I could also be interested in teaching certain games that I already know. Maybe we should make some Want To Learn / Like To Teach formatted posts?

Hey all.

Just started using Board Game Arena, am playing asynchronous games of Tzolkin and Targi right now.

If anyone else plays on the platform, feel free to friend me up... Bubblefuzz

Edit - I had a few issues yesterday connecting because of the unexpected influx of new users, but today has worked fine, for me at least.

Amoebic over on boardgamearena as well!

I just signed up. (kokoe). It looks really cool!

I'm pizzaddict on BGA. I play mostly Tokaido, Carcassonne, Incan Gold, Libertalia and Lords of Xidit.

There is also a Gamers with jobs group however and admin has to invite to join and I'm not sure how active the group is.

I've played Libertalia at a group meet up, pretty good game.

[edit: I opened the group up public. Anyone can join. ]

I'm tired of cross posting, so look at this instead. (or is this cross posting? IDK, and call me a filthy skimmer if you must)

Spoiler:

Sale on 4packs of Tabletop Simulator till April 2.

Sell your Burgers online (Async implementation of Food Chain Magnate on boardgamecore.net)

Gone premium on BGArena, I think it'll be my board game platform of choice atm.

Had a few games of Targi, am really liking it if anyone fancies a game drop me a message on bga.

Having a few games of Blood Bowl 2 with my local game group.

Wondering if there's any interest in the return of a GWJ league or tournament?

Yes, but how does that work online?

Sorry, I mean BB2 video game on Steam.

When I say local I just mean my usual rl board game group are still getting together online, chit chatting and playing via Discord, part of that has been a few games of Blood Bowl 2 on Steam.

I’d play... but I’m NorAm eastern time, which is complicated.

Blood Bowl 2 is 3 and 9 dollars for the different versions. If you guys are interested in starting a very casual BB2 league, I would happily jump in at that price point.

I enjoyed ~400hrs of the original despite it being a buggy poc. Might even jump back into Orca Cola potentially.

Grabbed it. Perfect timing!

We had a gwj euro league set up and played a handful of games. Could just jump on that one maybe, or was there an older gwj world league already? Or start afresh?

Orca Cola, is that a large active league open to all?

Yup! Orca-Cola.com is a great group of BB enthusiasts that play long-form leagues in the style of the English Premier League. New teams and coaches begin in 6th division and work their way through promotion up to the championship league. You're committing to playing one game a week, usually on the weekend, during GMT playtimes. Everyone in the organization that I interacted with is awesome. It's a time commitment, but they work hard to mark it worth it.

Cool, I'll look into it some more.

I’d be keen on Bloodbowl but I’m GMT +10 so lining up times to play may be difficult.

Hmmm... I just found this thread. Sheltering in place is slowly killing me. I’m in west coast USA, but I stay up late quite often. Oh whoops. I just remembered that most folks are on an opposite schedule. Anyway. Keep me in mind. My work schedule usually spans the middle of the night, so I’m typically up late on weekends.

Up to 2 spots available in a turn-based, BG Arena table for Terra Mystica, if anyone wants them! Just let me know your handle and I'll send an invite.

Root is on Steam Early Access. It's a very full and detailed adaptation.

Not sure if this is just me, but I always struggle which platform to purchase a board game's digital version. Steam vs. iOS. Some games feel like I would enjoy them more sitting in front of a laptop with mouse while others seem like a touch interface might be better. Unfortunately, I never know for sure until I purchase it, which usually ends up with a double-dip.

Does anyone else debate on whether to purchase a digital implementation on PC vs. mobile?

Buy mobile and use TTS mods for PC?

I haven’t found a game yet I prefer on PC. Tapping and dragging with fingertips feels far more natural for digital board gaming for me. But if there’s no iPad version, then PC I must.

If I am just going to be playing solo vs AI, I'll usually just get it on mobile. Most of my mobile gaming is board game adaptations. If it is something I want to play online with people, I just get a TTS version or maybe play on BGA.

I often have the same issue deciding whether to get a digital board game for mobile (mainly iPad) or PC. Usually it comes down to the following: will I be playing longer sessions including multiplayer? then the PC version is preferable. Does the game have a lot going on where it's preferable to see a zoomed out view of the board and components eg Scythe?, then PC again so I can play on a big monitor.

For shorter games and many card based games I tend to prefer the tablet versions eg Star Realms, Mystic Vale. I also play a few games asynchronously and that's when it's good to have both versions for some games eg Through the Ages, Yellow & Yangtze, so that I can take a quick turn anytime on my phone/tablet (also the notifications work better than Steam) then play a longer game on my PC.

Tabletop Simulator is a great option for playing with a group online and learning a game with someone who is willing to teach.

Hi all, cross-posting in a few relevant threads,

If anyone is interested in being a guinea pig form me and blind play testing the game I'm currently working on the TTS link is here: Beer 'n Monsters - The Last Drop

It's a commission from an Australian film company to create a tie in product to go with the movie which is currently in pre-production with some known actors attached.

The game is a lightweight full Co-op survival horror/comedy in tone.

The game is designed and I am now waiting on my partner to commission the artwork and do the creative fluff stuff on the rulebook. My biggest area of concern is people being able to read and learn the game from the rulebook so I'm at the point that I want to get some blind playtests and feedback.

Give it a look if you like and any feedback that is rules related would be much appreciated.

I see many have joined the GWJ group at BGA...

I will soon be posting a number of asynchronous games there - feel free to join!

CAVEAT - these games will all be (1) new to me and (2) potentially quite slow-moving.
